What Happened to all the Gamers?
I'm quite shocked at the so little activity going on in the Gaming Discussion forum. Did almost everyone give up video games?
As for me, I'm still at them. But, honestly, I have too many going at once! LOL! Here's my list of currently installed...in-progress games: Star Trek Online - Lifetime Subscription Grand Theft Auto IV (Original content) Mass Effect 2 -- will likely finish this up before going back to any of the others. ![]() Splinter Cell: Double Agent Dragon Age: Origins (Original Content) Assassin's Creed - Likely not going to progress much due to lack of subtitles. However, I was able to locate a full text script of the game that I could try to follow if I want to expend the effort. Far Cry 2 - This one I've completed once already but am on my 2nd trek through to find all the diamonds. Already found something like 183 of the total of...what is it? 216 or so? Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Games installed and completed that I like to mess around with from time to time to check performance improvements: The Witcher: Director's Cut - I've completed this game 6 times already but still find it interesting. Looking forward to the sequel! Crysis Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare As an aside, I haven't lost a game of FreeCell in over three years. I refuse to lose since finding out that every hand CAN be won!

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Like you I have too many games lol. Many first class games I have barely touched, but plan on playing eventually lol.
My most recent purchases were Star Trek Online, which is fun, but I don't know if I will continue playing every single month. Strike Fighters 2 which I bought yesterday and although early, it is so freaking fun! I was contemplating getting Kane & Lynch Dead Men and Mercenaries 2, for about 20 euros total from Gamersgate, and always want to buy Damnation, but I don't know if I will actually buy any of them now. I noticed a big Spring Sale in 2 days banner at D2D and it's tempting since as you know D2D when they do big sales they do go big on the sales part. Other games I constantly play are winSPMBT, every day I have 3 PBEM campaigns going on (1 2010 Greece vs Germany, 2 2010 Greece vs USA, 3 1961 USA vs USSR). I am also learning Enemy Engaged 1 (from GOG), and with the 2010 World Cup incoming soon, I try to play some Sensible Soccer when I have the time. In terms of games, we gamers never had it so good.

This is what gets me about the lack of activity here. Either people are too busy playing their games, gotten burned out on playing games, or _____________________.

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Just looking at the games your playing and my progress with them.
Star Trek: Not a fan, won't try ![]() Mass Effect 2: All finished, not going to buy the new kasumi dlc, all reviews say it's too short to justify buying. Dragon Age: finished completely. Started awakening but i think 3/4 way through and it's on hold. GTA4: Got very near the end but got very boring and it's not been touched for over a year. Witcher: Issues with sound and stuttering I gave up after the sewers part inside the city. (Was prior to windows 7, but ive sold the game now so )Double Agent, Assasins Creed, Rainbow Six Vegas2 finsihed i don't play FPS games online other than CSS and TF2. currently playing mount and blade warbands. About 4-5 games on the DS, and still to finish FF13. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
haven't got much time playing..
I play League of Legends, which is an online game. Dragon Age which is on hold for a while now. Started Dawn of War 2 over, on a harder difficulty level. I play some casual C&C: first decade Haven't got time for the rest of all AAA titles out there, sadly. Need time for uni and a social life as well.. and have to have time to ride my bike, which could be considered a game as well, as it's so much fun

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Something that must be looked into is whether or not the upcoming generation is eating up PC gaming like we did, in my street for instance most kids are either on PS3 or Xbox I never hear them talking of Lans, they crowd around TV screens and Jam whatever they can get their hands on.
I'm serious about this though there should be a poll are kids (new gamers) eating up PC gaming or is it a dying culture? Growing up i cant remember a friend who didnt have a PC and think of playing games on it, this generations seems quite different

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Yup growin up it was all about PC gaming and console gaming for me, hand in hand, I remember I gamed so much on our IBM PC100, and we did have a couple of consoles, the times when the NES and SNES were really popular, we even had a Golden China, Sega was pretty big too, alot of my friends had the Mega Drive and the 16bit Sega Mega Drive, and when the 32bit came out gaming in the neighbourhoods amongst kids our age was completely ablaze, by this time in my circles most kids were into the console scene, and only me and a couple of my friends were moving firmly into the PC scene, following it closely and amping up our setups, some of us even had Pentium 2 MMXs at this time.
I'm not a gamer anymore unfortunately I'm sorry to say, but for the time I was it was really sweet, and when I say I was a gamer I mean I was a gamer, just ask cow, dawg or charm quark and they'll let you know lol.

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I'm here!
STO as you all know, just a must to a true trekkie. Dirt 2 since it came free with my 5870 Vapor-X Civ IV and Civ IV Colonization because I just love the style, and have since the first Colonization and Civilization games came out. (Even reminds me a bit of the classic C64 game "Seven cities of gold") Battleground Europe - because I've been hooked to this ugly game (but with the best and most realistic war sim feel ever) since 2003. Flight Simulator X - just because I love planes and flying but can't afford to fly for real. On top of these I sometimes fire up my old Amiga 4000 and play some DeLuxe Galaga - Best shareware game EVER, all categories and all platforms - and some of the original Settlers. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I play some on and off but recently I've felt more like critisizing most games and that's not as fun as praising them. So I tend to write less rather than sound like a broken complaints machine.
![]() My latest gaming run was with Supreme Commander 2 that I played though the campaign, in spite of how bland it was in some ways. The story was terrible and the missions much shorter and simpler than the predecessor. Game mechanics wasn't bad though, as in spite of simplifications it's still a "Total Annihilation" game. Actually now I remember playing through Bad Company 2, but forgot since it was such a short and 'meh' experience. Destructible environments were fun even if most things broke too easily. Gameplay was quite consol'ish and they lied about their widescreen support. Perhaps some later patch brought it in but I don't see why I'd try it again. I'm glad there's quite a few games coming out this year. At least a few have got to be good. I'd like to play Assassins Creed but UBI will have to stuff that game. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I've been playing Devil May Cry 4......just acquired DMC3 recently too.
To be honest, there hasn't been a lot coming out for PC that I really like. I don't care for FPS games or MMO's, so that limits me right there. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I still play a lot of old games. But it feels weird talking about them, especially because it seems only recent games are discussed on this board.
I am currently playing through that classic adventure game, Sanitarium.

Also, I think the argument about the newer generation and consoles really has merit. As I make pizza deliveries, I often see people with a video game going on their huge living room screen. In a LOT of cases, they're using 360s. I'm sure some are using PS3s, and, I've even seen some with Wii's for sure. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I don't feel ashamed or cheap about playing old games. Why would I? If I liked a game 10 years ago there's a good chance I'm still liking it.
Heck, I sometimes unpack my old C64 and play some of those old goodies. It's not the same thing in an emulator, I want the real deal. I've said it before and I'll say it again, modern games are sadly enough more about nice looking graphics and sounds than gameplay feel. Of course there are great new games as well but most of them will be forgotten in a few years. The ones we remember are those that actually had a good feel to it, that made us get hooked and return to it over and over again. Be proud about playing old games instead, it only shows that you prefer quality instead of short lived bling. |

As for gaming, there isn't much on the market for me right now. The only games I have installed are Mass Effect 2, XCom: UFO Defense, and System Shock 2. The latter two are always installed though. I played through ME2 three times. Bored with it. Unsatisfied honestly. The game takes so little time to play through that it feels shallow. |

I thought that Mass Effect 2 was a longer or at worst, equal in size with the first game?

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Prior to a couple months ago, I really hadn't been playing games at all. I can understand the exodus as the gaming population gets up in years. Anymore, you can definetly classify me as a casual gamer, partially because I just have other things going on in my life now which doesn't lead to much time being spent at home. Also, the price of admission is prohibitive. PC prices aside (my two year old PC still runs games brilliantly), games themselves are just too expensive. I have made a decision to only purchase games once they have come down in price. $40-$60 is a rediculous price to pay for most video games. I would maybe make an exception for a Blizzard or Valve title, and probably the next Guild Wars game when it comes out. Historically, the content and continued support from these companies may justify a higher price tag.
I currently play BF:BC2, and that's about it (I paid $35 for it). I think the game is amazing and Im having fun with it, but I don't play that often. I recently bought Borderlands when it was $20, but haven't even gotten a chance to really play it yet. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I get this nagging feeling all the time whenever I play games anymore. It's been going on for over 5 years now. Every time I play a video game, I feel like there is something else I'm supposed to be doing.
Thing is, I have no clue what this "something else" is supposed to be. I don't know why I get that feeling, but it has really cut in to my game time and it annoys me to no end. |

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
I got The Longest Journey at that sale. Already had Sanitarium. Haven't started playing it, though. Bought quite a few old adventure games lately. I played some Loom, which I bought at the Steam year end sale, but lately I've been spending my limited free time on updating my website and doing some minor hacking of glFusion (which I use for my website) to get more functionality I want, so haven't played anything. But that website is a fad, I'm sure. Nobody seems to like it much anyway.

well i'm terribly boring and don't play much ever anyway, and when i do , i tend to get hooked on one and just play that (i play games as a distraction, don't have that 'must complete game asap' thing)
so i'm still playing Dirt2 ![]() and CSS of course got a few sitting in my steam account waiting for me. 2 of the STALKER series, AssCreed, Fallout3, Dragon Rising. oh, and haven't even started up Shattered Horizon yet either and we now got 2 360's , so i might actually stand a chance of playing that every once in a while, got Gears of War 2 begging me to play.. lately i've been spending a fair bit of time playing the DS too. some of those wee games are seriously addictive ![]() Quote:
i like breaking out the old games too. waiting for a properly free weekend to get Xwing & Tie Fighter and some of my old flight sims up and running on win7 ![]() God knows Pacific Fighters was an absolute bitch to get working properly full stop, on any OS, so that should be fun ![]() so there ya go Dyre ^ more typing than i've done in the whole previous week combined, all aboot gaming

Re: What Happened to all the Gamers?
Exactly! Why should anyone feel guilty about this? After all, how many of us like watching certain movies ... or even old TV series... again -- even more than once?
As for feeling guilty playing games rather than "doing something else": This almost sounds like an argument some gals [read: significant other] would say to a guy who's playing games rather than watching that TV program/Movie with her. When I think of all the hours people spend watching Soap Operas and TV shows, I don't feel one pang of guilt doing something I enjoy doing. I actually rarely turn on the TV anymore. But, to be fair, I don't have a 'significant other' at this time to have to share my time with, either.
