Call of Duty: Black Ops DRM

Anyone noticed that the box art has "online" logo , the same one on Ubisoft titles which could mean it has the same kind of DRM

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops DRM

Maybe Activision is branding PC titles with online play? Perhaps I give them too much credit, it's probably an online only game for PC or DRM up the a**

My guess is that its some shitty DRM which is going to take pirates a matter of weeks to crack and the legit users are going to get F*****

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops DRM

It is cracked already , and there is ah hack that enables pirated copies of Splinter cell conviction to play multiplayer on Ubisoft servers. I am not surprised Activision chose the same way but that maybe a sign that the publishers will lean forward to this kind of DRM in the future.

In Call of duty titles , anyway the single player campaign is always crap so I think people will buy it for multiplayer mainly.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops DRM

I'd love to see creative use of DRM; create a game mode which let pirates go online but they can only watch through the eyes of enemy NPC's, helpless to fight back or even control movement while the legit player proceeds to mow them down for target practic It would be hilarious and offset a lot of the hate these publishers get for using such punishing DRM.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops DRM

To be honest i think we've already fallen into a nice comfortable routine with DRM, Developers try screw the pirates, Pirates screw them back by cracking the DRM in a matter of days, Pirates get to play online and laugh at people that bought the game and are subject to said shitty DRM.

Steam's DRM is fantastic IMO Why don't more people copy that? You can torrent a rip of a steam game and still get to play it, But you don't get access to achievements, friends, online play, cloud synchronisation (which is incredibly useful if you use custom keymappings), And your steam rating will suffer through inactivity.

CD Keys worked better, they were harder to get hold of
If you ask me it's all a ruse to get less intelligent people to buy the game twice thinking "Oh, this one doesn't want to activate it must be a dud, Must have to buy another one" and instead of making $50, There's $100 to talk about
