Re: Alpha Protocol
I don't know.
Fast? Oh no! I play this game at least 6 hours a day. It didn't feel short. I am going through my second game now, playing as stealth guy and it's quite different, plus I am going as a "nice guy" character. Rarely I will play a game (non strategy) right after I finished playing it once. Rarely I will play a game to the end in just a few days because I enjoy it so much. The previous game I remember (though I am not saying it is going to prove as long lasting as that one, at least for me) doing that was Rainbow Six Vegas and Mass Effect. I don't know how long it took me, but I would guess, about 20 hours. You can blast through the game much sooner than that, at least I guess so, if you don't go looking for money and do the side missions, etc.

They have a major pull on video game pricing. Thats why SC 2 will be $59 a year from release and why alpha protocol will be $10. Like I said, half off on steam in a few months. |

I don't get your point. Yes the game is going to sell less than Starcraft 2 and yes it is going to be sold at lower price later on. And?

Re: Alpha Protocol
The story and plot of this game are just very well done! This story would make an awesome movie!
I've finally reached the last "leg" of my trek and hope to have a report soon. I've been so encumbered with other things I've not been able to put any extended time into playing. UPDATE: I've completed my first run through this game just a few moments ago. As far as I'm concerned, every reviewer who gave this game a poor review can simply drop off the face of the earth! This is one of the most intense, immersive, and compelling games I've ever played! It beats Mafia [original] hands down and, until now, I've considered Mafia the best game ever released.

Re: Alpha Protocol
I finished the game, for the third time.
I am going to start another one as a martial arts heavy, very very very nice guy. I will get some pistol skills, and focus on not killing a single one. So far from my understanding, the only way to actually kill with beating is by sneak attack and choosing to kill the enemy. If you don't and you just beat the crap out of him, you just make him sleep for the rest of the map or game. I will see how that goes and try at the end to be very halbech friendly. As Dyre Straits said, reviewers who gave this game a poor review are ....not worth their title.

Re: Alpha Protocol
I've finally been able to start my 2nd run through the game. I had some birthdays to help celebrate the past few days and now have some free time.
I've about wrapped up the Saudi Arabia mission and am playing it quite differently this time through. This game is going to get a really good work out from me...and looks like BlueMak is already wearing it out very well.

Re: Alpha Protocol
Playing the game as melee/don't kill anyone, agent, is a very different experience. You are forced to play stealth, if you don't they will fill you with holes. I managed to play the warehouse mission in Saudi Arabia with just melee and after that I believe I can play any mission like that.
I will still develop a bit my pistol skills because of one late boss that makes it impossible to reach him.

Re: Alpha Protocol
get in the house (lockpick) across from him. there is a sniper rifle on the upper level you can use. use stealth to get a headshot, then keep firing.. easy peasy.
I just wonder how you will do the rest of the bosses with just melee. I found chain-shot to be invaluable to take out bosses..

The whole idea is to not kill them, thus the hand to hand. That is why I can't use the sniper rifle. That's why I will use the pistol with tranquilizer shots. In general, the chain shots with the pistol is just the best of the weapons' special shots, no question about it IMO. I am right before the final mission in Saudi Arabia. So far it is really fun to go and kick their butts with hand to hand combat. I would say bout 90% of the "kills" are silent ones. I feel like Batman or something. Oh, and one other thing about this play through. I use civilian clothes! I don't need armor that much and sound dampening is good enough with them. I might get something later, just for the extra gadgets (EMP grenades and other non lethal) and not anything else. Oh, I forgot to mention, I decided to play as Rookie. Got to love the different options you get. As for your question. The only other one I am worried about is Brayko, but even him if I see I can't get him otherwise, I will just use the pistol. Though I am very curious how it will be if I just use hand to hand on him as full skilled hand to hand combat agent.

@BlueMak: Yes, I would be worried about Brayko, too.
SPOILLER....why don't spoiler tags work? [BTW, I tried both "spoiler and spoiller" just in case. Neither works.] [spoiller]But, if you can "beat" him with the pistol, you won't actually have to kill him.[/spoiller]

Re: Alpha Protocol
I'm still at a loss as to why so many reviewers were down on the graphics in this game. Although not on par with Far Cry 2 or a few other "next-gen" games, the graphics are quite acceptable to me. Especially after some tweaking of the .ini files to bring it up to PC standards from the consolitis it was afflicted with.

Re: Alpha Protocol
Am almost done with my 2nd run through the game. It is playing out a lot differently than my first time through, too! I'm getting sequences I never saw the first time. Such as, the fight with Championchik.
I had boosted my Martial Arts skill to the point that I took this Olympic Gold Medal Boxing champion out on the first try. I also was able to defeat Brayko on the first attempt using almost nothing but Martial Arts. That was a thrill! This game is well worth the money IMHO! There are so many different ways you can progress through the game. |

I am taking a break from the game and all killing games for a while (apart from winSPMBT of course). I started playing Test Drive Unlimited. Great game, annoying that there are no 911s there.

Yes hardly shocking news. Thanks to all the idiots with the low scores and the other idiots complaining about the game without even having played it.

Re: Alpha Protocol
There is a patch for the game.
SEGA West I read the changelog in some random (googled) forum. It fixes a few bugs in couple of missions. I never encountered them in the first place, but.... The patch doesn't (you will see why) work for the Steam version, most likely. The patch also removes the copy protection of the game. The game is on sale at Gamersgate, so if you don't have it, GET IT!

Re: Alpha Protocol
My copy is a digital download from GameStop....via their TriMedia subsidiary or whatever it is. I'm told that I'm NOT to use any other patches other than what TriMedia posts.
And, FWIW, I'm waiting for my Newegg refund so that I can pick up a XFX 6870 from MicroCenter. Was hoping it would come through today before the stores closed for Thanksgiving here. But, it didn't happen so I'm going to have to wait until at least Friday ... or the first of the week before checking it out. Why wait? Because I had played through this game in Eyefinity and any continuance of the game on my part I want to do in Eyefinity. My temporary HD 4770 doesn't provide that option. |

The SEGA page clearly states you can download the patch from the first of the two links. Of course TriMedia states that for patches, all stores do. Of course there is only one way to know for sure, but what do you have to lose?
