Re: Red Dead Redemption

Uxot, got the PS3 or 360 version? I plan on getting the PS3 version (cause I don't have Xbox live gold). We could go after these people and teach them a lesson.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I rented the PS3 version for a day.
I played through the first 15-20 min.

First of all, this game screams for a PC version.

Second, the game looks good, full of detail plays fine so far. I plan on playing more later tonight.

BUT, I don't know if it is all the videos I have seen or the expectations being too high, I have yet to encounter a WOW moment or something which would make me fall in love with the game. If this doesn't change, I might end up not buying the game for at least another month till the price goes half from what it is now.

Oh, and Sony, FFS do something about AA.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I will bet 10 bucks Rockstar releases a PC version but if it uses GTAIV's engine it could be a pretty rough PC version (ie no AA and a cpu hog).

The game doesn't pick up until a few hours in when you've had a chance to experience some of the cooler moments and then it amps up once you start gaining deadeye ability.

I hope it does come to the pc... Along as its a good port over then im fine with that..

I have read every post in this thread. And you all have been making it hard for me not to go and get the PS3 Version...(No Xbox) !

the only 2 reasons i have not so far is:

A) New is around £40 and im strapped for cash...And it did not help that my 32" LCD TV (7 Year old or so) decided to go up in smoke..And were forced to buy a Samsung 5 Series 32 " tv.the only plus side is i have now been able to set the ps3 to 1080P instead of 1080I..Plus the clarity is far better...

B) Im of to majorca on friday for a week...

That might be a problem for me since I don't go through the main storyline of a GTA game till several weeks after I bought it.
As for the AA, if that is the case, then I guess there isn't a reason to not get a console version of the game. My biggest issue with GTAIV on the 360 where I tried it was the short viewing distance and everything that accompanied it. Here there is no such issue since you can easily see very far away all the time.

First of all, in case I forget, HAPPY VACATION!

Second, I don't know if it is just me or what, but I am not very satisfied with any PS3 graphics and I am not sure if it is the monitor (which is slowly dying on me) or something else. Colours feel a bit washed out, aliasing is TERRIBLE, and the resolution to all the games so far feel like it is even under 720p. I still prefer it to my 360, but....perhaps I will need to play a lotto to buy a new monitor.

As for the game, the lighting is just out of this world. Out in the desert while the sun is setting...just one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen. The sky in general, day or night, is very well done.
The grass and other graphics just do not look as different as in the various comparison videos between the 360 and the PS3. I mention the grass because that was the easiest to notice there. The game artistically is just gorgeous, like a living painting or something.
Aiming is well done, animation, sound, I have no complaints.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I wish there was a way to capture screenshots off the XBOX 360 somehow. I just got the new 250 GB console earlier this evening and Red Dead Redemption look fabulous at 1080p on my 24 inch LCD!

Do I have to resort to using a camera?

Re: Red Dead Redemption

Yeah, very well polished game. I had to return the rental. I hope some time to also rent the 360 version to check differences.

A little late but thanks for the Happy Vacation Bluemak...Loved it and it were very satisfying indeed...

I got hold of RdR out of the spare euros i had left over yesterday..

I must say its not quite what i expected...In fact it's Better than i expected...The Graphics IMO are Superb, especially the lighting effects.Even more so when a thunder storm approaches..

It may depend on the tv you have, but mine plays well into the 1900 X ??? rez in full 1080P.

I quite like the Juarez series also,But im pleased there is no direct comparison between these 3 western Based games..

Same here...Breaking in the horses is fun as im only around 16% in i have already broke in 6 horses and never been bucked of yet..

Do i presume they get harder to break in further into RdR as i progress ?

I can't say for sure about whether the difficulty increases. So far, though, it seems that it might depend on which type of horse you decide to break. I had quite a time with a wild black stallion.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I made my way back to Ft. Mercer. There was a gunslinger outside who beckoned for me to come talk to him. So, I did.

Upon dismounting my horse, he informed me that there was a band of outlaws inside the fort who had locked all the gates and exits. And, he also told me that there was a large cache of money inside.

He continued to explain that he wasn't strong enough to climb some crates nearby and to climb over the wall into the fort. So, would I be willing to join him, climb over the wall, come and open the gate so that the two of us could take out the horde of outlaws and split the gold?

Sure, I agreed to do that.

So, he hoisted me up onto the crates. I climbed over the wall and commenced to do battle with the outlaws.

At this pointed, I decided to improvise.

I continued to use cover and to take out the outlaws one by one as I circled them from atop the wall.

Once I took care of all the outlaws, I gathered up all the weapons and ammo I could carry.

Then, I examined every nook and cranny of the fort and recovered all the gold I could find.

Once I had cleaned out the fort of all the cash and gold, I THEN went and opened the gate for my "partner".

I did the exact same thing but only because I forgot he was there to help me. I'm thinking a lot of people did that

Re: Red Dead Redemption

If like me and you have not played RDR for a few days...A new patch were released yesterday.

Quote:
The developer's first port of call is to take away some of the grief from online: While in Multiplayer Free Roam, if a player achieves a kill streak of 6 or more without dying, they will become a Public Enemy and receive a $1000 bounty because they obviously aren't being challenged enough.

There's also a new "run away!" mechanic: If killed three times by any human player and each death is within 80 seconds of respawn, the victim is given the option to respawn away from the area.

There's also a couple of little features just to make life out in the old West a bit more pleasant:

  • Players now have the ability to swap shoulder buttons L1/L2, R1/R2.
Players now have the ability to save game with cheats turned on.
When playing the game with Region set to Asia, incorrect button prompts were displayed.
Downloadable Outfits were not appearing in Change Outfits Menu after being unlocked.
Invincibility cheat was turned off when activating Dead Eye.
Occasionally, the player would not recover from being drunk.
It was possible to have two player horses, with one permanently following the player.
  • If equipped with the bandana, sliding doors would temporarily attach to the player's head.

Good changes. If there is no news of a PC version, I might end up getting it next month. This Fall also known as the paradise months with so so many good games coming out.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I just don't see what people see in this game, I don't like westerns and to top it off I don't like games that are old fashioned, except medieval with a slight touch of magic like Oblivion, maybe I need to play it to understand, maybe its just me. I can't understand what all the fuss is about.

Every one has there one opinions towards a specific game.. Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion...

Personally i love the COJ series and constantly play them over and over... (Both on PC) i don't like FPS games on the console as i prefer the Keyboard & Mouse combo..

Im pleased RDR offers a different view of the western style game play.Even if does have a slight feel of Far Cry 2 due to the roaming missions style..

If you don't like westerns, then that pretty much sums it up.

For me, I've played this game almost every day since getting my XBOX 360 about 3 weeks ago. There's so much that can be done and in so many different ways.

Several mini-games, too! Such as: Horseshoes, Poker, Arm Wrestling...just to name a few.

Also, there's the Treasure Map Quests: I've reached Level 7 in that one so far and quite enjoy figuring out the treasure map and location.

As others have described it, it's like GTA-IV but in a western setting.

And, it does really boil down to: To each his own.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

At its core, Red Dead is GTAIV in the old West. That makes it pretty simple to know whether you'll like it or not since everyone has played a GTA game by now.

Re: Red Dead Redemption

I love GTA but not westerns, I'll have to rent it and see how I like it.

Just pretend you're driving a motorbike instead of a horse and you'll barely notice the difference.

Hmmmm....next time I play GTA-IV, perhaps I can pretend I'm driving a stagecoach instead of some beaten down sedan.

For most people I would say that's ridiculous but based on your (as far as I'm concerned) legendary Oblivion role playing I would say you could pull off pretending the beaten down sedan you drive around Georgia is a stagecoach.

Did I ever tell you that I've complied nearly 700 hours playing Oblivion?

Now I've got another game I can spend hours just riding around on a horse. I actually have family living in Arizona and visited them last year. Playing RDR makes me really want to go back there again. One of my cousins even owns a horse.

EDIT: OK, someone please explain to me why I'm getting a bounty when I've opened a chest or crate or other accessible storage and there is NO ONE around to see me!!! Yet, someone outside and 50 yards away has somehow detected that I've opened something I shouldn't have. This is a bit annoying.
