Re: Games you want to buy this year

I'm definitely picking up Alpha Protocol.

Mafia II is also on that list.

As for Max Payne 3, I'm on the fence. So far, the concept seems to akin to the relationship between Far Cry and Far Cry 2....which isn't any. But, I've enjoyed playing FC2 to death.

I'm really hoping Red Dead Redemption makes it to PC... after watching videos of it on youtube last night I think it may be the next game I buy.

If I had the time I would get back into Lord Of The Rings Online. I love a game where I can drink and kick ass at the same time without ever missing a beat.

APB and Starcraft II are the only other ones that have really caught my eye and APB will be pre-ordered in the next few days.

Re: Games you want to buy this year

I have been insanely busy this last few months that I barely have time to play anymore. I just got Just Cause 2 and have played about an hour of it so far and I LOVE IT! Even better with 3D vision. Best implementation of grappling hook EVER! Also even with lower settings, the game looks gorgeous (only the character models look ugly, and the cut scenes have very low frame rates for some reason), but it is awesome with everything turned on. I feel bad for console players who don't have high-res and HQ shadow ability to be turned on. lol, just look at the demo videos online and see how ugly the low res shadows look.

This game looks massive too, it looks like it will be 50 hours of gameplay AT LEAST, even before the DLCs and add-ons. 130 vehicles, Havok physics looks cartoony but extremely fun and it isn't taxing at all unlike physx. I also love how much of the world the game engine renders and how far you can see in the distance.

Not really excited about other games right now, Mafia 2 most likely after hearing that they spent a ton of time working on the 3D component.

Fallout Vegas coming out this year? I'd put that on my list if it is. I completely forgot about Max Payne 3, I hope its good. Not too excited about Metro 2033 after seeing that even the latest SLI setups can't own that game in max settings. lol Move over Crysis. Although this time, its not because the game is poorly unoptimized but really because the game requires a lot of crunching power to run in highest graphic settings.

As far as I know about what's coming, and relative to what I've already bought, these I will get:

Civ 5
F1 2010

The rest seem completely uninteresting to me.

I'm having a brand new XBOX 360 given to me very soon. So, I won't have to wait long to play this game! My son and d-i-l have been playing it to death!

And, it looks AMAZING on the Sony 32" Bravia my son plays on!

Re: Games you want to buy this year

I don't want to buy any game this year. That'd save money and will likely not affect my gaming one bit, since I hardly find time to play games (except for the occasional casual one).

That said, I felt I really needed to get Dragon Age at some point, and luckily I just won it at KitGuru (go, Zardon!), so I'm happy with that. I love getting stuff for free. I might also try LotRO again, once it goes free to play.

That doesn't mean I won't buy any games. I'm sure I'll be temped by some deals. It's just that I already have like a gazillion games (good ones) to play that I'm not getting to.

Re: Games you want to buy this year

For PC......can't really think of anything. Probably whatever racing game that seems nice. I haven't really been following PC game releases. PC games are becoming too online-centric for my tastes. Not to mention that the most popular genres for games on the PC are all genres I don't care for....(FPS, MMO, RPG, strategy) I like my action games, shmups, cool (not cutesy) platformers, fighting games and racing games. Then there's all the DRM annoyances I don't want to be bothered with, as I ALWAYS use some kind of No-disc patch on any PC game I buy.

For DS: Intellivision Lives compilation and Atari 2600 + Arcade Game compilation. Both supposedly coming out before year's end. You can add any other old-school compilations that might be on the way too. I just can't seem to get enough old-school goodness these days.

I don't own any consoles other than what can realistically be emulated on PC.

I don't know what's changed with me, but I only want to play old-school arcade-type stuff anymore. Don't know if it's some kind of mid-life crisis deal or I'm just on a nostalgia kick or starting to outgrow games or my brain is turning to mush or what, but I'm just not interested in modern games anymore. I like my old-school games where they don't just end and roll credits on you all of a sudden, they continue playing until you run out of guys and the high-score was what you were shooting for.

All I've been playing on PC lately is stuff like MAME, Visual Pinball and various old-school 8-16bit console emulators.

I imagine most people would think that's pretty pathetic.

Re: Games you want to buy this year

I'm going to be getting Alan Wake later this week or next week, I have to revise the list I originally posted here as that was when I was still a PC gamer. From now on I have a rule, I can only have 3 games outstanding being finished before I get another one. Otherwise I find I buy more than I can handle.

Mass Effect 2 from GG USA for 14 dollars or a bit more for the deluxe.
From the GG UK, 19 pounds but you also get something like 10 pounds back in blue coins.

PS.I got Mass Effect 2, finally!

Very good deals there for a good game. Runs much better than the previous one and has still better graphics. A solid TPS all-around.
