Blizzard: DRM a Losing Battle

Fighting PC game piracy with restrictive copy protection is "a losing battle", Blizzard has said.In recent months some publishers have begun using digital rights management (DRM) that requires players have an active internet connection at all times.
Ubisoft's new DRM system forces PCs to be connected to the internet in order for games to work - even single-player games.
Earlier this year gamers reacted angrily to the strict DRM used by Ubisoft in the PC version of Assassin's Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5. Attacks on verification servers made it impossible for some gamers to play their new purchases.
StarCraft II developer Blizzard is taking a different approach.

Sooo, basically they say they are against DRM but they will have online activation....so...what is the point?

Re: Blizzard: DRM a Losing Battle

The point is that they've got one more article that's talking about their upcoming game, whether it makes much sense or not is of secondary importance (though there is a bit of "our DRM, err one off activation, is better than their DRM" as well).

Re: Blizzard: DRM a Losing Battle

this is what pissed me off about Starcraft 2

Quote:
Last year it emerged that StarCraft II will lack LAN support, a move that angered some veteran fans of the series.
Blizzard said the decision was taken to "safeguard" against piracy.
What a load of horse S**t

Activating once off seams a bit better but we will have to wait and see if its implemented correctly.

Re: Blizzard: DRM a Losing Battle

By one off does it mean you will not need to activate it again even on another PC?
If not, then it sure sounds like any other online activation DRM there is, apart from Ubicrap.
