i've seen threads elsewhere about this, but no definitive fix for it

basically, if it hasn't affected you, when you try and play the game it stutters and lags and jerks about like you're trying to run Crysis on a 66mhz 386..

highly annoying, especially seeing as how its my favouritist game just ever
just btw, before anyone asks, all of my other games work just fine with no issues at all

soooooooo, any of the collective games aces here know how to sort it? short of sitting on my hands waiting for Steam to fix it that is.

um, ok. why ?

i could, but i'd rather not, cos i never bothered installing it after the last rebuild, cos i kinda don't like it.

so, why is it relevant to try TF2 ?

have they incorporated bits of the engine (or whatever its) into cs:s with that stupid update have they ?

Lol, it was supposed to be a joke, sorry man, looks like you're really down over this.

Seems like you have to find a way to run it without updates after a fresh installation or at least with the relevant updates only up till this one to make it work. There might be a way even if its through steam.

Edit: the first step in trouble shooting glitches like this is to turn off ALL effects in the game and ALL on your card and then start activating them one at a time, and then turning them back on once a new update is released and seeing if it's fixed, that's one way around this rock.

NB:- and when I say all I mean all, even the sound effects.

ah, excuse my slowness, haven't been to bed in a couple days.

strange thing is, it seems to be for some reason that some folk ended up with a completely fooked game, and others are ok

it really sucks, i play loads of cs:s, they better bloody fix it soon.

Sorry, I should be apologizing too, I think I deserved that rebuke, I've been uber lazy on HH these past few months, it's a sin not helping someone when you can, it's just I don't game anymore and as a result of not gaming anymore I don't tinker with computers anymore, waste of knowledge I know but what can I say, being lazy and having fun is addictive

Maybe its the Vuvuzela I've been carrying around with me on the forums these past few days hehe.

right, might take a while, with all the quitting out and going back in, but i'll give it a go

you know, when it happened first, i quit out the game straight way thinking i'd accidentally managed to horrifically underclock my gfx card (i quite often have iTracker sitting open on my desktop). wish it had been that now

Also check to see what's running in the background when the game's running, just in case you've got a program that might be clogging things up. You never know.

And do a total scan of your system for viruses and such. (spyware etc)

Check system temps to see if they're within normal range, you might have to run a ram test eventually after all this, stress tests, check to see if it only happens with CS:S, check to see if it might be newer video drivers, etc etc.

first things i did, i think actually even in the order above

no unusual background noise, no viruses or nasties, and my memory is running better than ever.

and i just finished 2 hours of BF2 before i came in here to moan about counter strike as well just btw, so net connections seem not to be a problem.

i'll try the turn everything off thing in just a little while, you never know

definately only CS:S, of that i'm pretty sure. i have about 25 games installed atm, and i fired up at least a dozen of them at random, and they were all working fine. have to remember to check the card driver, i always forget that when i have preblems like this..

Hey man I also found this link that has some possible cures for what ails your CS:S. Maybe you could give it a whirl. Hope it helps.

Edit: Some suggest that putting -high in the game launch options works too by way of setting the priority of the game to high. Maybe that could work too.

well i thought i'd update you guys who tried to help me out

there have been some updates, and they've sorted the choppiness, but the game still lags like a mother, in every server, at all times of day and night.

i've tried everything suggested, and thank you to all but still not working right

not sure what else their is to try tbh, maybe i'll just play a lot more Battlefield :P

I've just had a half hour session on CS:S and after about 15 mins it went...errr....like i was wrestling in treacle (felt real laggy/skipping around the place) for a couple of minutes. But then went back to normal again. No actual lag as I was still able to headshot people. Is this similar to what happens with you Richy?
