StarCraft II Thread

Can't wait just under a week. Got time off by chance too for this game. Beta itself felt like more of a finished product than a lot of the crap coming out. So happy this is PC exclusive and a lot of people are coming back to the PC for this.

Don't think it will be less than a 9.0/10 from the critics and possible GOTW winner on many sites. Thoughts so far?

Can't be bothered spending money on games right now.. As a student I can't permit for procrastination

I'm pretty excited, but doubt I will experience it for a long time to come..

Kinda same situation. Instead of a student I'm a soon to be dad.

It sucks too, because all my old friends are getting it and getting time off for it.

Will give the singleplayer campaign a chance since it's Blizzard, but I don't expect to get wooed by the game itself. Going by videos the gameplay is 80% the same as in the original, which doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Usually with this genre I'd hit skirmish games against AI opponents right away, but here I'm focusing my hope on the campaign story.

they really hyped it and it's one of the main reasons the game is coming out in three installments. So it HAS to be good.

i'm in debt and school starts back in sept so I can't either, but I still gotta! And they did not want to mess with the formula, but when you do sit down and play with it your old strategies do not work anymore (not always)

I had this thing paid off months ago (got the Collectors Edition), and can't wait 'till Monday midnight for the launch. I was supposed to work my casual night job Monday (7pm to 7am), a job that unless it's the quarter I only do 5 days a month (10-15 days during the quarters, like this month), but told them were to go.

Come to think of it, I'll be doing this when Halo: Reach comes out too...

BTW, Best Buy has a pretty sweet deal for the midnight launch. They're not only giving away a T-Shirt, but a Microsoft Sidewinder X3 Gaming mouse, and 3x the reward points. Only problem with them is their launch party starts at 9pm, and they don't start selling 'till 12:01. The chances of you getting a mouse at that point... remote, unless you're one of the first 150.

I watched a few of the trailers today for the first time (Cinematic and some gameplay footage too) and those cinematics look amazing though I'm not very impressed with the graphics that were shown (looked like DoW circa 2004) but perhaps that was youtube. I am kinda hoping SCII can outdo World in Conflict at least where it comes to all the eye candy.

I never liked the first one so I have between -1 and 0 interest in the sequel. Though to be fair I doubt I would be interested in any RTS now. EA managed to killed any interest I had in the genre with what they did with DRM and gameplay with C&C4.

Even here shops w ill be open at midnight so it is a big thing, I am sure it will sell a lot.

Graphically i wouldnt say it is able to be compared to WIC, its style is completely different and makes it very hard to compare. Its way better than WoW though...

its a diff game genre from WoW, but elements will be borrowed (just like WC3 borrowed from Diablo). The criticism will come that it doesn't bring enough new gameplay elements. That's fine since you don't wanna mess with the formula too much (ie. adding heroes). But I think by the second expansion the game will change. Blizzard is one of those studios that never put out much products but never anything less than grade A.

hell no, i just started! the campaign takes elements from mass effect 2 noticeably, a little GTA, falloutish vibe and obviously wc3/WoW influences are in there. multiplayer is just raw starcraft. theres also a small "spec ops" type of mode too

Well custom games are mostly Tower Defense, Sotis (AoS/Dota clone), Zone control and such currently. There's also some pretty cool platform games.

I want this, and everyone is saying that is a great game. But from what I've read ppl are complaining about not having LAN support for playing multiplayer games. If you want to do so you must log on battlenet and everyone must have a cd key.

BTW, do you guys know when are the other two games coming? I want the Heart of the swarm badly

no idea when its coming out... and yeah a lot of those complaints are from people who can't run something llike BNetD that they had back in the day or easily pirate it. Like the game, try the trial from a friend (and this trial will be more open as time goes by I am sure) or buy it. Its one of those gotta have games!

I can't stand strategy games or games on the PC anymore because I can't stand to lose, I have to win win win each time and this kind of play can make you very sick.

On console I don't care who wins or loses, its just for fun. Too bad they don't make RTS games for consoles anymore, but then again using gamepads to control RTS troops was just laughable. Its fun to play on console for me, not so for PC. I never was a fan of StarCraft though all of my friends at the time were, I was into Warcraft.

MW2 was always win win win win lol and i sucked at that along with KZ2

I had MW2 on the PC before I sold my rig (for a third of its price) and I found it so easy fragging people online that I quit playing online multiplayer altogether, it was just too damn easy. TF2 has got to be one of my all time favorite shoot-em-up multiplayer games. I really really REALLY enjoyed that one and will miss it very dearly.

Callandor, there are other types of strategy games than RTS.

RTS are most of the time not even strategy games, just pretending to be.

What can I say, I like big project, hyped up games, not the little ones you get on Steam etc, even though those can be really good too, I just don't want to take the time to find out which ones. I know what you mean though.
