Food for thought (PS3)

I decided to give another chance to PS3 exclusive, Killzone 2. With some monitor calibration etc, I said to myself, why not.

The game looks amazing. While playing the graphics are just awesome and you rarely see the need for AA anywhere. Basically the game looks like nothing most multi console games look on the PS3.

No matter if you try less detailed or very detailed games, they always (so far) look like they are in desperate need of AA and higher resolution.
What is going on? Are most developers lazy or just don't give a shit? Are they getting paid to make PS3 version less refined? WTH is going on?

If a game can look on the PS3 as good as Killzone 2 does (and from what I hear Uncharted 2), why so many games look so...shit?

My faith to the console as a gaming console has been reaffirmed.
The problem is not the console, it is the developers.

Re: Food for thought (PS3)

I think the problem with the PS3 is it is deferent architecture than 360 which is very close if not a pc.
Lazy developers are everywhere , same reason why some games that look like s*** have high requirements on PC. Lack of polishing. Multi format games dev just prefer the easy way to do it, that's why a PS3 ecxlusive shines. We can't balme developers as much as publishers because they are the real money pocket which can opened or closed for developers depending on business decision or greed at sometimes. If the developers take their time to make the games ready I think they will better than that rather than seeing a crappy sequel every year.

I agree with your points, but I still can't stop but placing blame also on the developers. After all these years they should be able to improve.

Re: Food for thought (PS3)

I agree Killzone 2 looked amazing, it was one of the very first demos I tried upon purchasing a PS3 Slim but I found the lack of a mouse too difficult for FPS controls and moved on. I'll have to pick up a copy next time I'm at Gamestop now that I'm more used to using gamepads. There's no doubt in my mind the PS3 can blow the 360 out of the water in terms of graphics and sound but that's the price paid for having a difficult to code console.

So you've got the ps3 hooked up to your monitor? I did this with my 360 for quite some time and even though it was 1080p it left me unimpressed with console graphics. It wasn't until I hooked it up to a 42" 720p tv that I saw how screen size rather than resolution was what made console graphics beautiful; it really is the opposite of PC gaming.

Re: Food for thought (PS3)

I am just not the type of hooking up a console or PC to a huge monitor/TV. It just doesn't feel right.

I have a 24" monitor 1920x1200, but even that feels a bit too big at times. I am window shopping for a new monitor, which I have no idea when I will be able to afford to buy one, but I can't find anything even approaching the specs of my current monitor. It looks like P-MVA panels are no more and the only thing they sell are TN panels. I would like a LED monitor but same issue.
What I am trying to say is, I get what you re saying, but I have the opposite view on it. lol

Re: Food for thought (PS3)

I love my PS3 Slim and keep it hooked up to a 52'' ViewSonic and the picture looks absolutely amazing. If I could hook it up to a bigger screen I would.

I am not in the USA but thanks.

It's still a TN panel. But anyway, this is a PS3 thread. Although it was my fault for talking about monitors.

Callandor larger than 52"? I would need a bigger house.

Re: Food for thought (PS3)

I want to get a new TV already, maybe bigger than the one I have so I can play in 1080p.

Edit: I just found out my TV outputs visuals at 1080p whoo hoo!

Sorry, my fault too.

PC Monitors are still 100x more exciting than a PS3
