Dunno if I'm putting this in the right section, but I wonder if anyone has had RAM overheating issues on their xbox 360 elite and managed to fix it. I only found 2 RAM chips upon opening the case and affixed a small heatsink to each. Powered the 360 back on and actually got the 2 red lights faster, and it still gave me the code for overheating RAM.

I plan on buying one of the new 360s but I was hoping to trade this in working for a bigger credit. Any suggestions are appreciated

I have two, one for 4 years and one for 2. Never failed me yet.
If you follow some simple procedures they live long. Don't place them in a closed space, don't place anything on top of them, after you finish playing leave the xbox on at the dashboard for a good 10 min.
Still work.

360's are decent as long as you get a new console, in my experience refurbished ones are junk. Sadly I did put the console in what didn't seem to be too small of a space at first. Guess I didn't factor in how hot this apartment gets.

Whenever I got the two lights error I held down both the Eject button and the Controller Sync button which brought up a full red flashing ring, hit sync again got another full ring, then 1/4 ring, then 3/4 ring. Which translates to an error code of 0013, and after looking it up found a forum with the codes translated and that is for overheating RAM.

I gave it an entire 3 days to cool off, earned me about 15 minutes of play time before overheating. This time was in a well ventilated area with one of the new intercoolers(the ones that don't hook into the 360's power outlet) on the back. No dust, fans work fine, so I'm not sure what else to do.

My guess is yours is not within warranty, you might want to consider getting a new one, one of the new models perhaps?
Which you have already mentioned, I guess one solution would be to send it to Microsoft for repairs and when you get it back check it and then sell it.

I got my job back today so I think if I don't fix it I'll save up for the new model and do some experiments with this one. Might at least get an xtra dvd drive from it if nothing else haha

Does anybody have one of the new 360's? Was curious if the new hard drive port has an adapter to plug in like the old model or if it's just a sata drive connection. Would be great if it was the latter because I want to get the new model for the $200 arcade version and just pop my old hard drive out of its casing and into the new model.

I've played with one, and the port is customized again. The best way to describe it is that instead of an external drive in a custom case it's now an internal drive in a "cartridge" type custom case. It does, however use the standard SATA connectors, but due to the way Microsoft does things (protection, formatting, and what not) you can't just replace the drive. You have to use the ones they sell, or the ones people hack to be usable on the unit.

Well the formatting should be the same on the previous 360 models right? I'm taking my elite's hard drive and just taking it out of the shell. The new models can use the same transfer cable as the old models did for hard drive transfers so it doesn't look like it would be formatted differently.
