3D glasses suck
Not my wording, I would be more rude.
Soaking gamers in immersive worlds - Xbox 360 News at GameSpot How can I not like the Bethesda guy, he is in favor of single player and against 3D. I agree 100%.

Re: 3D glasses suck
Well, yes and no. 3D is again in fashion, a novelty, as it was in the 50's and then again in the 80's.
Until there's real 3D, something you won't need glasses for, it will continue to be a novelty and nothing more. However, there are games that I really do think it has it's merit. Shoot-em-ups no, I don't see the point, but for simulator games like the coming F1 2010 I really do see the advantages with it, even if it's with glasses. |

He's wrong and so are you guys!
![]() I'd like to here how "sucky" 3D is from gamers who own 3D Vision setups. Every comment I've read from them praises how awesome it is.

Re: 3D glasses suck
It is known for people who buy something to stand by their purchase even if it sucks ass. Especially among geeks. While I do not have experience with the latest 3D technology, I think the people in the article know a few more things than the average gamer/customer, no?

Re: 3D glasses suck
Its very much down to personal taste and what 3D you have been exposed to.
Games and movies where the 3D effect has been bolted on tend to be low quality, rubbish examples of 3D. Those which were designed from the ground up to include 3D offer a much better experience which tends to persuade a lot of people that 3D is good. As an example, on our 3D Vision test system i've shown people various 3D scenarios, gaming is usually something which impresses people but show them the Grand Canyon 3D Blu-Ray and they are blown away. The river rapids section is one of those moments like Angel Falls in the BBC's Planet Earth series. That made people sit up and take note of HD and what it was capable of... Grand Canyon does the same for 3D. To the point where a couple of people i've watched viewing it have actually giggled with excitement. In terms of glasses, the good quality ones are ok... it would be better not to have to wear any but they are not too troublesome. A good quality screen also makes a whole load of difference to the experience. Overall though... I dont think 3D should be the only way to watch things, hopefully people realise this and dont force us down that route. It should be used where it most benefits people... specific movies, games, media... but I do think it is here to stay and that when used properly it is fantastic. NOTE: I say this as someone who hasnt had to pay for and justify the purchase and someone who hated 3D the first time i used it. Felt very sick (like motion sickness) for about an hour and the just not right for about 3 days afterwards. Now that i am more used to it, and the quality is improving i am growing to like it more and more. |

Re: 3D glasses suck
Much like most of my hardware, my 3D Vision system and 120Hz monitor was free and yes I LOVE IT. lol
Like Veridian3 said, if the game/photo/video was made with 3D in mind from the ground up it really works, for example Batman Arkham Asylum and Resident Evil 5 and surprisingly even some older games where it wasn't designed for it but made backwards compatible like Age of Empires 3 looks fantastic (I actually bough the expansion packs after playing it in 3D). A lot more games are coming out 3D Vision ready now and even something like Battlefield Bad Company 2 surprisingly had several updates that kept on improving the 3D effects (at first try, it had too much ghosting issues but they have finally fixed a lot of the glitches now so kudos to DICE for working on it until they got it right instead of just relying on workarounds. That's also the difference between a movie like James Cameron's Avatar where he spent 10 years developing the technology and crafting everything to make it work in 3D and something like M. Night Shyamalan's Airbender 3D with its tacked on last minute "3D" marketing (on top of being a garbage movie) or Clash of the Titans 3D etc. Understandably, there will be people who won't like it (especially those who are unable to see in "3D mode" because of actual physical eye defects) but no amount of saying its a fad is going to make it go away. There is a sizable chunk of people consuming it and a much more sizable chunk of companies supporting the market for it now (we're talking major companies like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, etc not two-bit 3D only specialty companies. Instead of going away, the amount of money its bringing in is just going to accelerate the technological improvement of 3D. |

Re: 3D glasses suck
I actually like 3D and like Veridian said it all depends on when and how it is used, certain movies and games really benefit from it, plus I don't mind wearing the glasses. It is the next direction things are going to take anyway so even if one doesn't like it, they had better get used to it because it's not going to go away.

Re: 3D glasses suck
I for one am really looking forward to the new TRON movie, it should look absolutely fabulous in 3D.
The modern 3D technology is great if it's used correctly, not like the old 50's red/green anaglyph 3D which was extremely tiresome and gave me a bad headache. |

Re: 3D glasses suck
I have a 50" 3D Plasma tv and finally got it hooked up to my PC and have tried some 3D gaming. It certainly does not suck. ATI's implementation sucks, they use 3rd party drivers which may or may not support some games but otherwise the effect is excellent. 3D is here to stay and I'm happy to report it is worth looking into.

Re: 3D glasses suck
I'm battling with it still. The TV's are very expensive still, almost 3 times the price of a non-3D in the same size which is a bit much. Another thing is, will I be able to view 3D movies through my HTPC with a standard blueray player or do I need to get a special blueray for that to work... and the fact that there's still so few movies avaliable.
When it comes to gaming I don't know. I know of no title that I actually want to play that's avaliable in 3D.. |

Re: 3D glasses suck
Quote:
HTPC can output 3D to a 3D tv all you need is a program to output checkerboard or side by side. I don't believe the Blu-ray drive itself is the issue it's the software (in this case the program used to play the movie) that matters. What really bugs me is that there's quite a few 3D Blu-rays on the way but of the ones that exist they are not for sale and are tied to specific brands. However, this will not slow the 3D format. By next year every nearly HDTV being sold will be 3D capable you won't have to use it but it'll be a feature and that will ensure more 3D content is released. A consumer simply has to look at other technologies such as HDMI or 7.1 audio and how quickly they changed the audio/video market.

Re: 3D glasses suck
Well, I won't be getting a non-full-HD tv just to get a 3D capable one. Out of the question. For me it's 1080p or none at all. The cheapest 3D capable HDTV I can find here is 19k SEK while I can get a good 2D HDTV in the same size for 6-7k. That's just to much of a difference for my taste.
