Default Post GTA3 patch has been released!

Just saw over on Warp2Search in this story that they've released a patch for GTA3! You can download it from the previous links, or go straight to Take2's download page to pick it up.

I'm downloading it now, I'll report as soon as possible.

Never played it. To many bad things being said about it. What does this patch address/fix?

yes I also heard alot of bad things about it, and when my friend installed it to play, I was stunned by just how GOOD the game looks and plays, runs perfectly smooth at 1024x768 all settings maxxed out on the 8500.

game plays great as well, which is something quite rare.

this is the changelog

- Exception error after blue Rockstar load screen fixed.

- Error loading saved games fixed.

- Mouse sensitivity now saved with other settings (no changes made to existing settings).

- Option for user to play audio files directly from hard disk. Copy the contents of the PLAY discs Audio directory into your installed Grand Theft Auto III Audio directory. Grand Theft Auto III still requires the presence of the PLAY disc when started. This may give better performance on some machines (though worse on others).

- All protection checks (apart from needing PLAY disc to start) removed. Grand Theft Auto III still checks for the presence of the PLAY disc when initially started, and plays audio from the PLAY disc if not found on the hard disk (see above).

Anybody tried it yet?

Sounds like they used SafeShit^H^H^H^HDisc to protect the CD and then discovered how crap it was due to customer complaints.

Hopefully Bethesda will do the same when they release the Morrowind patch

Does anyone know of any sites for skins etc and I was also thinking about this at work. The radio stations are hilarious but after hearing them for probably over 20 hrs now ive heard it all. DOes anyone know if there are any downloable radio additions cause i think it would be an excellent idea. Also I think the patch is missing something vital. When using the mp3 radio all you have to do is place shortcuts or the mp3s in the mp3s folder. I wish they changed it to do a shuffle feature on it because the songs are always played in order and quite frankly that is shit

Cheers

When you change radio station it starts on a random track of the station. Radio station changes everytime you jack a new car. Im never bored with the PS2 version audio - and I kinda like all the stations.

But being able to add more stuff would be kinad cool

yes a very cool idea, I also have heard everthing on the radio, to add to it would be a superb idea, maybe they will release a pack for the game in the future, new missions etc.

Default Post Try these tips.

Go to Pete's page here and follow his tips, it helps a lot!

Also, if'n you don't like the music why don't you just put your own in? There's an "mp3" sub-directory in the GTAiii folder and any MP3's you put in there will be on your very own custom radio station called "MP3".

I'm alternating 'tween the Violent Femmes and the Wiggles me ownself....

My bad dude, I should have read you're post more thoroughly. Why not write a quick .bat file to rename the songs in your MP3 directory from time to time to shuffle the order?

good suggestion dude ha man never thought of this. Ive been too hyped playing the game. Ive sucessfully used a patch to change all vehicle names to their most likely real world name is and thats kinda cool. Ive also downloaded some new skins but had to go to work so not used em yet. One is the cop car but a nypd car instead. oh and a heavy armoured beast ha ha. I got a patch to add police realism (npcs get arrested as well ha ha) i havent done the no cd yet (i normally do for speed) but just not been bothered to get it ....yet.

There is some serious potential for this game and what i would love is to transform all main key buildings into famously known buildings across the world. Its a bit of a mission but wouldnt that be so cool. One guy has made sloppy joes into Burger King ha ha.

God the possibilities man, well, are endless.

Thank you Luk! I haven't done much around here on a practical level yet, it's nice to hear that I was useful to someone and actually helped 'em fix something a bit. I've been feeling more like a color commentator/cheerleader since going nVidia, they just ain't got the problems like ATI. (<sigh> I miss my old ATI cards, there's just something more satisfying about 'em.)

This new patch will only work if it can find the origional .exe file, so if your using a fixed.exe than it won't patch anything. If your using XP than you'll need the compatability patch (Q306676_W_XP_SP1) from microsoft before the game will run anything like smoothly. I'm on patch #3. This game is far too resourse heavy, I have a reasonable system and still the game performs bad.
