HALO: Reach Discussion
Since I got a 360 a couple months ago, I've been back and forth with games on PC and the 360.
I'd already finished Halo: Combat Evolved on PC a few years ago...and then also Halo 2. I had started Halo 3 on my older son's 360 but he keeps it pretty busy himself so I never got to finish the 3rd one. I've been back on it lately, though. So, it was only natural that he and I got Halo: Reach at the midnight launch at Gamestop earlier tonight. If you're a Halo fan at all, this one is quite well designed. Ok...back to fighting the Covenant... See you all later! |

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
They have made some changes...and for the better, IMHO, to the game since Halo 3.
There is no more Health Regen. Instead, there are Health Packs positioned at key places where health can be restored. The Shield Regen is still there...and makes plenty of sense to me. It seems that the weapon controls and movements are better, too. However, I still suck at driving any vehicles. I definitely need to remap my controls to a more familiar configuration. I like that I can toggle the Crouch stance instead of having to hold down the thumb control to keep crouched. (It seems that was the only way it could be done in previous versions. I may be mistaken.) For me, the story is very interesting. FWIW, that's the main reason I play games if for a good interactive story. So far, I like this one. I'll be putting up some game video soon. |

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
I have Halo 3 and for the life of me could not play it more than a few minutes without getting bored. The combat and AI feels 10 years old to me. That said, I'm a sucker for gaming hype and if all the reviews say Reach is awesome and the best of the series then I will pick it up once I've gotten through a few other 360 games.

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
I'm still playing this game solo on Heroic difficulty. There have been some nice challenging levels and I'm at one now that is really trying my skills.
For those playing: I've activated two systems and am now suppose to active another "system" to bring up defensive guns to enable the civilian evacuation. The Covenant is hell-bent on keeping me away from that last system. All-in-all, I'm having a blast with the game and intent on completing it on Heroic. I've done pretty well so far. ![]() Below, as promised, is some of my own gameplay video.... OH...and be sure to select 720P HD!!!

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
i picked up this game on the weekend...
gave it a spin.... and honestly.... While i enjoyed halo 1... a great deal.... and halo 2 i didn't really enjoy at all... halo 3 was a mixed bag.... this game really has been uninspiring to me... It's one of those games where if your bored out of your mind i would play it.. but not very long.. and presented with something else to try or do.... i wouldn't hesitate to do so without reaching a checkpoint/saving.

From the discussions elsewhere on the 'Net, you're definitely in the minority on this one. I find the story element very well done. And, playing on Heroic difficulty makes for very good firefight challenges. Ah, well....there's always "Gears of War" for you.

I was finally able to complete Halo 3 recently, too.
I'm likely to pick up ODST and Halo Wars soon. |

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
I finished this one on Normal first, and now going through on Legendary by myself no less. Just have 2 levels to do: New Alexandria and Pillar of Autumn, the latter of which I am definitely not looking forward to doing on my own. Plus thanks to the daily and weekly challenges I've been playing this game every single day since it came out. Those challenges are a bit addictive.

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
Did the same thing before Reach came out. Went and found a mod called "The FINAL RTE mod!" that increased a lot of the textures, but also did some AI and enemy encounter changes. Not bad mod.

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
Since you are talking about the original Halo, I am at the point where I have a bluish floating thing helping me out/guiding me, inside a huge installation. Any idea how close to the ending I am?

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
If you just got the Spark (aka. Guilty Spark), then you're probably going through "The Library" (which is just after the swamp level), the 7th of 10 levels.

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
Ah, thank you. I need to finish this game soon. While it looks ok for an original Xbox title, I rather move to the second and then finally buy the modern line.

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
I played 1 and 2 on PC and just recently finished 3 on the 360. I will def pick this up after i get through Test Drive Unlimited (37%). Or should i go for ODST? I forgot what that is. Side story?
Just a quick Q about Halo 3. How do you go back and get achievements? All i see is Continue Game. Is there an option to replay some levels?

Re: HALO: Reach Discussion
ODST is a pretty decent game, although it is a very "hub" based game. By this I mean that they length of the game is artificially lengthened by using a hub strategy where you will be going over a central area to get to other areas. Plus, since the game jumps from one level playing as the main character, to another level playing as one of the other members of the team (via a "flashback" type experience), then back to the main character, you find yourself playing the same levels again as the main character, just from a different perspective. That also lengthens the game out.
Still, it's worth getting, especially since it'll be a lot cheaper now to get. Most retailers were keeping the price high due to the Reach Beta being on the DVD, but now that Reach is out, and the beta closed, it's not a gold mine for them anymore (I re-bought mine for $20, where it was 2x that prior to Reach's release). |
