Metroid: Other M

I've been itching for this game for ages ever since just a few shots of it were released..

What i can say after basically living off the light of an lcd tv and junk food.... over the hours i did play it...

2 things piss me off with this game.

1: No idication of anything you saposed to do in VERY specific 3 times situations. Essentially you have to find a single pixel in a 360 degree saphereical area... which would mean trying to find a needle in a haystack specially when you do not know what your saposed to be looking for OR you were sure you had gone over an area already only to find that you had to wait an extra second longer. I'm glad this only happened 3 times in the game... unfortunately the FIRST time it happened i thought i had locked up or bugged the game because when i landed in this specific part, i had the "manual" scan mode ready and when i couldn't get out of that view.. i thought "damn i screwed up the game?" and reset it after about 15 minutes of trying to get out of the mode and scouring the entire relatively small circular room i was in double triple checking..

2: Some senario's do not give any clear indication on wtf action your saposed to take... Only until after the fact that you try to do something you know you cannot do do you get a mini cut in game cut scene granting you permision to do it... I had to die anywhere from 3 to 5 times and in one case almost steadily for 30 minutes non-stop before i findly was able to target/find what i needed and do the required action.

Now while those are my only two gribes which, granted, i do not like to have where the game basically holds your hand through the entire deal, they could have done it much better instead of relying on trial and error... or to try and suggest that the play would FORGET what she/he may have the powerup to do.

Those 2 things aside...

This game to me.. had the level of detail and FEELING of playing Super Metroid all over again. The depth of it, the coolness, and my gaud i love the speedbooster. The gameplay is phenominal, the graphics are pretty damn impressive. Sure the pre-animated cuts scenes are DAMN good graphics wise... i can miss the realtime rendered ones.. but it's a nice change. Sound is perfect, i find samus's voice a little on the dry or mono-tone side occasionally though. I think the longest cut scenes run 5 minutes maybe 10... but they weren't dry and boring at all....

Smooth and fluid.... kickass excution style attacks. I giggled when i was able to get the shoot~> kick to the face attack first, then got it down as a frequent attack.

Also loved how essentially you have all the powerups from when you finished super metroid (since this is a DIRECT continuation emediatley after super metroid and BEFORE fusion). Course lack of the missiles and energy packs... mind you miss the hyperbeam... was hoping to see that.

While i do beleive i have finished that game, and while i didn't play it as quickly as i could as i spent much of the time just looking over things and trying to find secrets, i think it was 15 hours so far.

GREAT game... worth picking up a wii just to play...

Re: Metroid: Other M

I've heard mainly bad things about it, and reading about your gripes helps me understand why. But I definitely want to try this game out at some point.

Re: Metroid: Other M

My gripes are pretty meanial..

How this game is getting bad reviews from anyone is totally absurd..

the gameplay is amazing
the graphics are top notch even for what the wii is designated for power wise..
the action is insane
the additional excution style moves... kicking and combat overall is absalutely raised the bar
the storyline was WAY WAY better then i expected..... personally i find it comparible to that of a solid snake style cut scene senario...
It's all Super Metroid is.... excluding the sequence breaking unfortunately... plus more...

If i were to rate it on a scale of 10.. it'd be a ten.. only because 11 would have been possible without the "find a pixel" part and "figure out what to do by yourself without the necessary powerup that you know you don't have, in order to Activate the poweru"
