Blizzard Suspends a Player for Using a Trainer in Single Player

A player caught cheating while playing single player mode of Starcraft II has been punished with a 14-day suspension. Blizzard, concerned for Battle net charts and achievements, says they will not tolerate any form of cheating, single or multiplayer, and that EULA gives them the right to suspend CD keys or Battle.net accounts of cheaters, even permanently should they see fit.

A rather nasty attitude and abuse of the EULA and the power given to them by the permanent internet connection in my opinion and another reason why compulsory tying of games with on line accounts and requiring internet connection for even single player campaign sucks.

More here.

Haha wow...better get the warez copy if you want to use a trainer then. Talk about overkill!

Got to love the DRM. Oh well, good for Blizzard. They wanted to buy the game with this DRM, now they pay for it lol.

Re: Blizzard Suspends a Player for Using a Trainer in Single Player

that's the trouble that comes with tying in achievements and charts and stuff into singleplayer. People will moan about other people using trainers or cheats or whatever to achieve these achievements which results in the measures taking as displayed in the above newsarticles..

what happened to a game just being a game for fun, instead of measuring e-peens for all those kiddies. what does it matter that somebody got an achievement that you didn't..

There's something awfully wrong when a pirated game offers a better user experience than the purchased one.

There was a time when paying for a game meant getting rich printed manuals, soundtrack CDs, maps, support, additional content and what not. Today it means others decide for you when, where and how you get to play your game. I bought a program the other day which required a serial and online activation. The activation was poorly implemented, but I eventually got through it. What really got to me was that, upon activation, I received an activation code which I was told to write down and save because I'd need it (together with the serial) when I wished to reinstall the application, or else I could forget about using it. On top of that, they had the decency to claim that it was for my own good, to prevent someone from abusing my copy should they get their hands on my disc. That moment, what went through my mind was that I wouldn't have to put up with all that had I downloaded the application.

Its their fault there is a loop hole in their game. They shouldn't punish the players for it.

Its not the right thing to do and it send the wrong message.

Well, if you leave your door unlocked and get robbed, who is responsible to the law? You or the guy who decided to rob you?

Come on BlueMak, the dude was just playing the game and cheating a little, it's his choice whether he wants to cheat or not, you can't liken that to an unlocked door.

My message was a reply to SFOSOK's post about the Blizzard being at fault for not finding every single possible exploit in the game.

Well, it is their (players) fault, but my point was that it isn't Blizzard's fault.

I don't expect them to find every exploit, but they shouldn't suspend a player for doing what he wants with a game he purchased. You don't see Barnes and Noble, an author, or publisher showing up at your house to burn the book you purchased just because you wanted to highlight a few pages.

Next time check the EULA. As I said, zero sympathy for the players who bought a game with an always on connection for the single player part.

I guess they shouldn't have included the cheat codes they wrote into it either, since they deactivate the achievements anyways. This is the same thing as DRM with mp3's and movies from the iTunes store. If you don't create a hard backup for all your music and movies and you have to reinstall, you lose everything you already paid for and have to start all over again at 99 cents a song.

As long as there's a way to control men, there will be a way to resist...
