exclamation Is Fallout: New Vegas crashing on you Bunkie?

I was having the same problems with FO:NV crashing a lot when I first started using it. It was almost exactly like FO3 in that respect.

I remembered that there was a fix for that in FO3, so decided to take a look at the Fallout.ini file in FO:NV, and sure enough it was the same as the original FO3 .ini file.

With that in mind I made the same changes in it as I did to FO3, .ini file, and the crashing has stopped.

Just as a refresher, this is the "fix"

Quote:
Edit the "FALLOUT.INI" file located in Users\Username\My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV (that's for Win7, Vista or XP may be different)

Make a backup of the INI file before making any changes to it.
Search for "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change the value from 0 to 1.
Add another line under this and paste in "iNumHWThreads=2"

The result should look like this in the ini file:
bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

Save changes and run the game."
I will also note that just as an experiment, I changed the iNumHWThreads=2 to iNumHWThreads=4 since I have a quad core processor, and it seems to work just fine. You may want to change that to reflect the number of cores/threads that your system has.

Edit:
Just to give proper credits, this "fix' was given to me by forum member Satans Arse in this thread in July 2009:
Fallout 3 is a POS !!!

Thanks!!

I had "only" 4 or 5 crashes in 2 weeks but i surely will add the second line since i have a dual core processor.

In that case, this fix may or may not help.

I will note that my game will CTD if i try to use sleep/wait for certain lengths of time. I can sleep/wait for 1-11 hrs, or 24 hrs, anythimg else and it will CTD.

If there is one thing I know about Bethesda , it will be they releasing buggy good games at the same time , from the days of Call of Cthulhu , Maybe it is their tradition.
