Xbox 360 issue

I have an first (or is it second?) generation Xbox 360 that I don't use. It's a white premium model with the 20GB HDD.
I was thinking of sellling it since I barely use it (got another one when I was away), but it has one issue that troubles me. The disc tray doesn't always open. It doesn't matter if I use the controller or the button on it. Or if it has a disc inside or not. It will try to open, make the noise that it does when it starts opening, but doesn't move more than oh, half a mm if that and then it cancels. Like something is blocking or something.
If I gently tap on top of the case over the tray (vertical to the way the disc would be), while it tries to open, it opens just fine. Obviously trying to sell this xbox would cost me money, but I have no idea what to do about this problem. Is it a well known issue that MS would do something about it?

Eh, I still have an Xbox for exclusives etc. But I need to fix this to sell it.

Re: Xbox 360 issue

Does it do this with the faceplate off? Just wondering if the faceplate is damaged or misaligned, and is causing it to stick. I've seen this happen with customized plates that weren't manufactured properly, like the E3 plates they gave away. Mind you, it might also be the belt is loose. I don't know which drive it is that you have, but I can tell you that this is a very common issue with theses drives, especially the Samsung ones. The belts at the front tend to wear out easily on them (stretch). I have a neat little fix that might work for you, and you don't even have to open the box.

If you open the tray, and look inside, you can see a black belt looped around 2 wheels. Using some tweezers you can take the belt off, clean it with some soapy water, let it dry completely, then put it back (you need to let it dry out completely, otherwise it will stretch, and not grip the wheels). You might also want to clean the wheels with some rubbing alcohol before placing the belt back on. There was one instance where I had to use glue on the wheels to get things to work. Just slap some glue on there using some Q-Tips or a toothpick, let it dry thoroughly (this is a MUST), rough it up a bit with the tweezers, then put the belt back on. This creates a rough "grabbing" surface for the belt to sit on (and makes things a bit tighter too).
