Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
Hey everyone,
I recently finished the game Dirt 2, and I'm almost finished playing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and I was wondering if anyone has tried out NFS: Shift, because I think that'll be the next racing game I throw in my system. About NFS: Hot Pursuit - it starts off really slowly I found. The cars that you unlock initially got me thinking - WTF - why would I want to drive a freakin Jaguar in a hot pursuit situation? It wasn't until later in the game when you get to drive some ACTUAL sports cars. Oh - and the biggest drawback? There is no standard mode - every single car is automatic, which can take some time to get used to if you're used to downshifting in the corners. Anyways, if any of you have played NFS:Shift, what was your impression? Do you have any other racing games to recommend for the PC? Thanks |

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
NFS Shift is a very good driving game. The arcade feel in it is the least among all the NFS games.
I like it more than the Dirt and Grid series. Other racing games, well, if you don't mind a bit of weirdness, then Split/Second is an excellent racing game. Full on arcade and lots of fun, especially if you play online. Blur is a fun game too, think of Mario kart racing, only with realistic looking cars. Two games that are absolutely great, but they are very old style, are New Star GP and Super Laser Racer. Very good top down view, racers. The first is based on Formula 1 and the other on....eh...I don't know, Tron like cars. Both excellent games. MX vs ATV Reflex is another one, you should enjoy, especially if you like Dirt. A bit more serious (not by much) and a focus on just a couple of different type of vehicles. Very good game, though a bit harder than Dirt. Flatout UC is another arcade racing game, basically Flatout 2 with updated graphics. Lots of races. It's fun. If you are looking for a Mario Kart experience on the PC, then I suggest you try Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing.

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
NFS: shift is cool...... I just recently got it and played it several times, nowhere near the pro cars yet but it's fun. I'll keep playing it, it handles well and looks good in eyefinity.
I finished DiRT2 as well and about 90% of GRID both of which I like...... the thing with racing games for me is even when "finished" I'm not done with them, each race can have a different outcome so they are never ending games....... Sure I "beat the game" but keep going back, I have my favorite tracks and cars and just keep racing. Real racing is like that, you may start out on the local dirt tracks with no intention of ever racing F1. Every Friday night with the same guys and the same cars ends up with different outcomes and the challenge is still there. For a change I just picked up Burnout Paradise: ultimate box...... What a hoot...... Very arcade but it's hilarious. I got that at the same time I got the NFS and have yet to go back to the more serious games yet.

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
I gave up on the NFS series a long time ago... I just got bored of the Rehashed races...
I switched over to CM Dirt 1 (when steam offered it for £1.49) Great for its price i paid... I am at around 80% complete on Dirt 2. Then came GT5 on the PS3... Im addicted. I also picked up Burnout Paradise when EA offered it for "Free" is quite fun... |

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
A Shift question, is there any way to remove an upgrade or buy a second regular version of a car? I fully upgraded my favourite Supra and it no longer feels like a Supra and I hate it.

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
Thought I saw one last night. When you go to "My Cars" and bring up that car, there should be a "sell car" button in the lower right corner. Never sold a car though, so I don't know what it's all about.

Re: Anyone Playing Need For Speed: Shift?
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I went ahead and got Shift installed, and I've been having quite a bit of fun with it.
So far, the only drawback is that it took at least a dozen races before I had my Logitech Gamepad configured correctly to give me a reasonable amount of control (Do a Google search for "gamepad configuration shift" and you'll see it's actually been a bit of an issue) There are a number of fun courses, and a ton of cars to choose from - I just finished upgrading the M3 E46 to the Factory WORKS package and it's pretty insane. Once again, back to the gamepad issue, because I can't give partial throttle, the higher powered cars are simply unplayable without turning on traction control because otherwise, they spin out uncontrollably when accelerating out of turns! |
