DARKSIDERS for PC

I just bought a Phenom II X6 1050T from New Egg, and included with it is a coupon with the STEAM activation code for the game DARKSIDERS: Wrath of War.

I have absolutely no interest in playing this game, so rather than letting it go to waste, I'll give it to the fist person that can actually use it.

Remember, it's a STEAM download, so you have to have STEAM available where you live.

Recommanded System Requirements:

Connectivity : Online Steam account
Sound : 100% DirectX 9.0C compliant sound card or equivalent onboard sound
DirectX : DirectX 9.0c
Hard Drive Space : 12GB
Operating System : Windows XP SP3, Vista SP1, Windows 7
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual Core 2.60Ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Dual Core 2.13Ghz
RAM : 2GB XP, 3GB Vista / Windows 7
Video Card : NVIDIA (GeForce GTS 240) 256MB graphics card or better, ATI Radeon HD3870 256MB graphics card or better ( must support pixel shader 3 )

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

looks like an awesome game
I'd take it off your hands, but I wouldn't want it going to waste if I play it and it turns out I don't like it.

Not sure if anyone got it yet or not, but if it is still available, I would love to get it.

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

I got the demo version of this for the 360 not long ago and started playing. Couldn't stop until I got to The Jailer.

It IS very addictive and I found myself wanting to go ahead and get the full game.

BlueMak is more than welcome to it as I would probably, at least at this time, prefer the 360 version.

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

It sounds like Neshi 'expressed interest', but really would rather someone else got it.

BlueMak was the first to actually say he wanted it.

Neshi....I'll let you make the call. Do I send it to you, or BlueMak?

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

Dyre's comment convinced me. I've read through some reviews and Dyre saying he found it addictive, I'd gladly take it off your hands.

I really appreciate you just giving this away! You're a real generous guy.

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

still downloading. I am almost at the download cap for this month (sharing it with flatmates) so I have to take it easy. The 4th will be the new start of the month, so I'll download the rest of it then. I think I'm just at 25% at the moment.

Not having unlimited broadband sucks, but that is NZ for you... internet is still freaking expensive. Being in the middle of the ocean far away from everybody does have its downsides.

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

hmm I was sure I posted here what I thought of the game...

Anyway here goes:

It starts out similar to Prototype, where you are on your strongest, have got all abilities but you don't really know how to use it (in my case).
You need to fight a big boss and of course, you lose. You lose most of your weapons and abilities and need to regain these.
From here on out you receive different quests and by doing so you are rewarded with these weapons. By killing enemies and demolishing surroundings you collect souls which are used as currency to improve or buy new moves.

The game is littered with different puzzles requiring certain weapons to get through (which means that once you have acquired a certain weapon, traveling back to certain area's means new locations might be available to you).

Boss battles are in itself puzzles, requiring certain weapons and methods to defeat. There are quick-time button events that allow you to deal damage or evade attacks. When performed on normal enemies it kills them in a elaborate and violate way which is always nice to see. Some of the bigger ones can actually be ridden for a short time, before getting killed by your character.

At the moment I am stuck very short after you get your horse.
I still cannot, for the life of me, defeat the worm resembling the ones from Tremors.

oh, and what I think of the game?
At first I had a hard time getting used to the controls.. but once you get the hang of it, it is a very enjoyable game! I love the dark themed atmosphere and the puzzles are interesting. They're not terribly hard but still challenging enough to get you to scratch your head once or twice.

Stygian. Probably the worst boss of the whole game. The first time, before you get Ruin, just run past him. At the end of the level.. well.. that's tricky. It takes way to damn long to beat it. I found it tedious as hell in fact. The devs idea was that you would have upgraded Mercy via Vulgrim before you headed after Ruin and Stygian, but a lot of people, like myself, put points into other stuff, and because of that it took me an hour to kill the mofo.

There is, of course, a glitch in the game at that boss too. If it's taking way too long, like, you keep shooting him for an hour, and he's not dying, do yourself a favour, and kill yourself... I mean get War killed (Yeah.. that's what I meant). Don't reset, but actually get yourself killed. For some reason resetting doesn't actually reset s**t, but dying does. Go figure.

At the moment I am stuck very short after you get your horse.
I still cannot, for the life of me, defeat the worm resembling the ones from Tremors.
If I recall correctly you're supposed to ride along side the head slashing it with your sword, not shooting it with your gun. Didn't it have some kind of cage on it's head that you have to break off before you can kill it with a quicktime sequence?

It's been a while but I quite enjoyed the game.

One key word: run. Run your backside off.

Definitely the hardest boss of the game (or, at least, it took me the longest time to kill).
Every time the boss goes underground, run, keeping in front of it the whole way. At every opportunity use the boost but be wary of the edges of the map. When the best pops its head out of the sand, shoot it to buggery.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you have infinite ammo, it's a semi-automatic and there are no penalties for poor accuracy. I didn't care if the boss could take damage or not whilst it was chasing me, I shot it continuously anyway.

This boss needs persistence. It took me a few tries to work out what you need to do and then actually pull it off. Practise makes a dead boss.

Re: DARKSIDERS for PC

it's not the Stygian itself that kills me though, it's those pesky little offspring that I cannot outrun or kill soon enough. They always catch up with me, and hit me. After 2 or 3 waves of them I'm dead.

I'll have to try again..
Haven't played since my laptop got stolen a good 2 months ago.. and I hope Steam saves progress on something other than the harddrive, otherwise I can start from scratch (which might not be a bad thing.. getting into a bossfight while have to adjust to the controls again might make it even harder to get past that stage)

Edit:
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write something about this game. As I said before, I could have sworn I did when I first played it all those months ago

Like most bosses this one is a fight in stages.
First stage is getting that cage off, which isn't hard cos the stygian is just going around in circles.
But then it start chasing you and you have to shoot it, like the other worms you have fought before. After you have dealt enough damage to it, it lets out a cry and summons 3 smaller worms that are freaking fast and chase you. I don't know what comes after cos that's where I die

Its risky to slash Stygian with the sword as you have to get in real close to it, but you can. I ended up doing this in strafing runs as it was just taking too damn long with the default Mercy. If you have Mercy upgraded however, it`s easier to kill him. I did this with the second run, and my jaw dropped at how easy it was vs my first run.

Neshi, the smaller worms, use the lock-on method with Mercy. If they get close make sharp turns, but always keep riding in wide circles hitting dash a lot. Someone once told me that when you shoot off Stygians cage you can use it as a barrier. Ride near it, and the worms can`t pass it or some such. Never tried it though.

As long as you avoid its initial head-on attack, it doesn't do anything to you as you ride along side it so you can just slash away, again, that's if I recall correctly
