Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
The demo isn't out for PS3 yet , right ? . I guess like the majority of multiplatform games. they concentrate on X360 version and port PC/PS3 or at give them second priority at development. Would be funny if X360 version didn't sell well at the end. We'll see.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
Looks like commands can still be entered via a command line switch...
+cl_fov=80 +r_DrawNearFoV=80 +pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=80 +r_MotionBlur=0 +g_skipIntro=1+i_mouse_accel 0 I added this line to get rid of the intro movies, motion blur and to increase the FOV - I feel it improves the visuals and looks less 'consoley' like this. My CPU is really being pushed by this game with both cores at 100% during a match, if anyone has a Core 2 Quad how does the game scale across 4 cores? Last edited by Jac; Mar 5, 2011 at 09:34 PM. |

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
Man, Q6600 early adopters got such an awesome deal. That CPU is older than my PC, which I consider pretty ancient, and yet it's still up to anything the gaming world has to offer, with room to spare. 8800GTX came at about the same time, and while I don't think you'd be playing everything at 1080p max details on one of those anymore, there's nothing you'd be playing on low either. Remember the multicore gaming naysayers, and the >256MB Vram naysayers? Lol.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
Yeah but how do the cores looks whilst gaming? Is it using all cores efficiently?
I was looking at upgrading the core of my system this year - Core i7, DDR3 and a new mobo but I seriously doubt I'm gonna need the power and feel a Q6600 should see me through the year. I've seen them on eBay go for about £70. Clock it up to 3.6 or more should be fine. |

Having said all that, if your current CPU is letting you down so badly that you feel you need to ditch it right away, I guess you'd make back most of the cost of an ebay Q6600 if you sold it on when you've managed to save up enough for the rest of a new build. Also, just as a heads up, I wouldn't be sure that you'd get a Q6600 to 3.6GHZ. You may or may not be lucky with your piece of silicon, but it's fairly unusual to get them to those speeds without a substantial voltage hike, of the kind that you'd want a modern high end cooler to deal with - and spending £70 on a cooler for a £70 CPU, I think you'll agree, is a bit daft.

You say a Core 2 Quad is 'several generations old tech' but what exactly can an i5 do that a Core Quad cant? Also, my current generation CPU isn't letting me down, It still does everything I want it to. I think it's only now with the release of CryEngine 3 that a quad has started to look like a requirement. |

What exactly can an i5 do that a 65nm C2Q can't? Well, what can a 65nm C2Q do that a 65nm C2D can't? Ignoring multitasking, as that's not what you want it for, it can't do anything new - it's just generally faster at the same thing - that is, playing games. It's a similar story with an i5 vs a 65nm C2Q - it's just generally faster. It'll also last a little longer, clock quite a lot higher, use less power and natively support USB3 and Sata 3.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I probably wont bother upgrading for Crysis 2 - like I said, it runs quite well on the system I have. It does seem though that the game can benefit from a Quad. Of the games I've played this hasn't really been the case thus far.
That's why I'd like some reports about how CryEngine 3 uses a Quad. The results I've seen show that CryEngine 2 works well on dual cores, a touch better on three and with a fairly minor boost moving to four. CryEngine 3 is supposedly much better optimised for multi-core chips. As for OC'ing the Q6600 - seems you're right. I just assumed that because I can run my e6300 @ 3.2GHz with no problems at all I could easily take a Q6600 up to circa 3.6. As for Crysis 2, my opinion is wavering day to day. When I first saw the demo I wasn't that impressed. Playing the game I found it to be fairly amusing although it is just deathmatch. I've seen some scenes from the leak that do look quite impressive. Besides even if it is just a console port it's probably gonna be one of the best ports this year.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
There are quite a lot of games out there that will make use of a quad, but none that actually need it yet to my knowledge. Depends on what you play, and what you plan to play, I guess.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
most all do, but the Q6600 has hit the brick wall for utilization of newer cards. I see no performance diff between my GTS250 and GTX460. The bottleneck is very apparent. Hopefully I can run this setup until next year.

Even at 1080p with AA? That's very surprising if so.

SC2 runs the same more or less, i sold my GTS250 and never ran many benchmarks in the last while. But I never tried Crysis 2 with FSAA

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I still convinced it is a yet another typical shootr with a bit of eyecandy. Where is the vehicles in mulitplayer. Why it is just 6vs6 and the maps are small ? at least that what appears from this demo. It would have been fun if you drive a military vehicle and your teammate uses the gun on the top.
