Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
FFS it's always the same. A high profile release and the inevitable fuck up of crashed account servers, forums and support. It's like it comes as a surprise to them that people actually want to download and try the game.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
If I remeber correctly Crytek said there will be a sp PC demo later. Anyway, I am downloading this as I am trying to experience the new nanosuite and the changes made since Crysis overall.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
What I don't understand is the recent "thing" to release the DX9 demo of a game and not make it possible for those who can, to run it at DX10 or DX11.

I don't have the demo, but there should be an ini file you can tweak.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I'm glad some of you are able to try it out!
Me? I've been trying off and on for two days to get an account setup. I already have an EA Account and get email notices. But, my Profile name uses a non-standard character that this demo won't accept. So, when I try to change the Profile name to something acceptable, I then get a "that email address is already in use" warning. Trying to post on the EA forums about it, I get a "waiting on EA...." message. I believe I'm at the furgitaboutit stage, myself.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I've managed to get two gaming sessions in so far - having had to create a new account each time (cant log in with my mycrysis account) and I'm running out of email addresses.
I am getting around 25-30 fps running at 1280x720p - strange I thought as the graphics aren't really that impressive. They're only slightly above COD4 imo. Using GPU-Z I noticed my GTX460 was only 30-40% load for most of the time so my old dual core must be taking a battering. Again I cant see why that should be, there's a small player count with small maps and no apparent physics to process. It's pretty much a polished COD clone with no depth to it, OK if you need something to do to kill half an hour but not something that's gonna keep me playing long. |

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I don't think it's the game engine, more likely overburdened servers. From what I've heard, even the leaked beta performs much, much better and this article which was posted on HH shows that you should get similar, if not even a touch better fps, at full HD.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
Yeah but those tests are run on Core i7 processors. Likely my dual core CPU is holding back the framerate but still - looking at the gameplay I don't see why this should be the case. I really dont see why this game should take more CPU cycles than Crysis Wars which ran perfectly on this system with a 9600GT.
I have seen some tests around the net that show the Fermi chips/drivers take a lot of CPU cycles in benchmarks with ATi cards giving much higher FPS on similar generation cards on dual core CPUs. I'd like to do some tests but yet again I cannot log in to the game. Mycrysis is down AGAIN. Account servers will not let me log in with any previous accounts I have to make a new one every time I play and I have no more email addresses. I have two words for EA/Crytek should they stop by - EPIC FAIL ![]() |

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
3rd day in, still can't login to the game. Can't login to MyCrysis, no support or news, game website still down.
I was under the false impression that Crytek were a large studio backed by one of the world's largest video game publishers when in actual fact the company is just one stoner sat in a bedroom getting loaded. If anyone happens to be in the vicinity of the Crytek 'offices' can they knock on the window and tell the guy his 486 has crashed. Jesus fackin Christ!

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
Played 15 mins , and here is my first impressions; the graphics are great but there aren't options to modify just three modes "advanced, hardcore, gamer" I hope the game will have more detailed options.
The gameplay; feels mainstreamed and fast paced more like COD than Crysis. The SP is what will make this game standout since the market is already flooded with COD-like shooters. And I'm fed up with that.

Sorry but according to nVidia's site they have gotten rid of the various graphics customization and simplified it to 3 generic presets. Hardly geared for PC enthusiasts .

Whaaat ? do you mean the final game will not include options to alter graphics like the first one ? That would be epic fail indeed.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
But why in hell would they remove it in the first place, Why do I have to change the setting manually and reboot the game to see if it works or not. Well, if the final game doesn't have detailed options I will forget about Crysis 2 and go with BFBC2 instead.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
From what I've seen around the net people can still create .cfg files to modify stuff but I haven't confirmed this.
I have to admit that the game is quite fun - spent an hour in there tonight levelling up which makes the fact that I'll have to start from scratch next time that bit more annoying. Graphically though it's not on the same level as Crysis and definitely looks like a console game - just seems flat and cartoonish and for some reason 'big'. Also confined, doesn't feel like your in a huge city at all. MyCrysis still down.... |

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I feel the PC version still needs much more work, hell it is DX9 only (Don't care about promised DX11 patch after launch) which is just the same like any console port in the industry. IMO every exclusive that went multiplatform feels dumped down and Crysis 2 is no exception.

I think Crysis 2 was yet another great prospect that didn't quite meet its full potential due to console gaming. Let's hope things change in the final release or after some patchwork... I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Crysis 2: Multiplayer Demo - Now Live
I think the 'big' sense may be from the textures being over-large to make them less memory intensive. If you have a brick texture for example, if you make the bricks larger then the texture will have less detail overall than a texture with smaller bricks. Plus the geometry is flatter giving the game that 'console' look.
It's quite hard to put into words exactly why the game doesn't have the same graphical fidelity as Crysis. |
