Surely it's worth it to go triple screen and move your computer and legs away from each other slightly :P

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

New patch due tomorrow.

Also, could Crysis 2 yet be the best looking game ever made. I am of the opinion that Crysis 2 is certainly one of the best looking games yet - only a few shoddy textures spoil it in some places. Since the DX11 patch was officially announced I have been of the opinion that it would be a surface polishing patch with limited effect. CryAdam on the mycrysis forums has stated that the DX11 would blow people away but I was still skeptical.

Today this arrived. Crysis 2: Nvidia zeigt erste DirectX-11-Szenen | PC GAMES HARDWARE ONLINE - Video Portal powered by Hardwareclips.com

Now if that tech was applied throughout the game then I don't think there's anything around that would look better. Dunno what you'd need to max it though!

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

A new patch is now available for Crysis 2, updating Crytek's first-person shooter to version 1.8 with fixes and new graphics options, though this is not the DirectX 11 patch we were recently told to expect "very, very soon," though it was mistakenly reported here as such initially (apologies for the error and any problems it may have caused.

You can read the full patch notes on MyCrysis, and in addition to the game's automatic update function you can find manual on AtomicGamer, GamePron, Gamer's Hell, The Patches Scrolls, and WorthPlaying.

I've played through Crysis 2 twice now on a 3x1 Eyefinity setup. It is very impressive!

BUT, I'm now playing The Witcher 2 and, I have to say, the graphics are simply amazing! Would I say TW2 has better graphics than Crysis 2? I'm not so sure. BUT, the games are totally different in their environments and each one works very, very well for what it is.

HOLY SHIT.

check out this - [page now removed sorry]

Links not yet active , must be soon now though. Some real enhancements judging by the screens. Optimisations for both DX9 & DX11. I think this will make Crysis 2 the best looking game produced to date.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Wow, the differences are so immense that I... wait, no, they're not. The differences in those pictures are like comparing the differences in video quality from an HD DVD to a Blu-Ray.
DX 11 in something like the Heaven benchmark is amazing; the bricks go from 2D to 3D, the dragon is vivid instead of flat... I could go on. That package makes 3D-looking bricks 3D. I don't suppose I'd notice a wall with bricks sticking out by 2mm whilst blasting the brains out of some sorry soldier or alien.
This may seem a little contradictory to what you'd expect me to say as I like playing games in full-whack graphics but the performance hit for increasing to DX11 is, I'd say, too great for the differences in visual content.

On the other hand, when the package is released and I can be bothered to download it (if I remember) then I might just eat those words.

Looking at the 1st pic, the tentacle, it doesn't look that impressive. In fact I'm still divided over which of the two looks better. The bricks though look great - really pulls away from that painted boxes look that you get with flat textures. The POM makes a significant difference too IMO. The real world reflections again look great. The Screen Space Directional Occlusion improves that shot no end. Add in the high resolution texture pack.

I thought (in places) the visuals in Crysis 2 were already some of the best I've seen in a game. These changes though minor on their own could add up to something really spectacular.

Now all I need is to get hold of some serious DX11 hardware to handle it all. Mods isn't it about time we had a GTX590 competition

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Can't wait to try this out. Even though the gfx glitches with the newest drivers won't be resolved until mid-july if what i read is true. Hopefully a few more patches/drivers and we'll have a smooth, beautiful game.

Sure, have the game load up fast too. Unless you're installing games elsewhere, like me. Man would i love a 1TB SSD. Not at current prices of course.

Yep Same here....The SSD is only going to be dedicated to System files... All or most games are going to go on my 2TB HDD.

bare in mind i may still make use of my corsair F40 SSD for a couple of my games..

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Just played through the 1st level at maximum. I'm talking full HD and most settings at ULTRA & high resolution textures - just for the lulz. Performance was not what you'd call silky, as you might expect. I'm getting anywhere between 15 - 35 FPS. Occasional freezes which I assume are memory drops (not sure if it's video or system memory). The game is using all 1GB of my GFX card memory. Reminds me of playing Crysis on my old 9600GT.

Does look good though. Proper smoke effects look so much better. Tesselation on bricks and a general crisper look, most of the fuzzy textures have gone.

What is amazing though are the 'recommended' specs that Crytek have posted.

Quad Core obviously
High end DX11 card with 1.5GB of memory.
8GB Ram - yeah, 8GB 8-]
SSD drive.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

I really have no interest (at present) in playing through the entire game again just to see the DX 11 improved graphics. I've played the game through twice now already.

But, I was curious enough to see what type of impact it might have on how my system would handle it.

With the Hgh Res Texture pack and DX11 Enabled, everything else on ULTRA, I'm seeing ~50 FPS during the first level. It drops occasionally into the mid-30s when there's a LOT of activity going on and many AI in the area.

I'm using the AMD 11.6 drivers and CFX with my 2 HD 6870s and playing at 1920x1080. If I tried on my 3x1 Eyefinity, I don't think it would be playable.

CryTek kicked their PC fans in the teeth when they didn't release this with DX 11 to begin with.

It's the wall when you turn around at the beginning of Gate Keepers. I'm sure they didn't replace EVERY texture in the game.
And yes I have all at their highest setting (it was just a joke post). Here is a nicer wall. I wanted to take more SS but was getting 'driver recover' errors all of a sudden. My system can't handle C2 now

lol my sarcasm detector is broken, although that last part scares me now that I have to go out and buy 4 more GB of RAM and an SSD so I can play this.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

I honestly didn't think I'd be interested in playing it through again. But, I'm doing it this time on my 32-inch LCD TV and it's playing and looking very good. I'm on the FDR Bridge at the moment and just got through the "earthquake" scenario. The dust and smoke have just cleared.

I'm seeing a good ~50 FPS average throughout. AND, Crossfire X is working just fine. Previously, the game would flicker so bad I couldn't use CFX.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Played a bit its playable on a single GTX580 although I think I need to throw in a few more fans inside the case as the GPU temperature reached 90+ when I exited and crashed the 2nd time after 2 hours of playing (gray screen, sound coming out but distorted, pressing keys doesn't work). framerate was about 45 fps although when I shot at the water it would drop to 25-28fps so I probably need to throw another one in there in SLI.

Dunno if any one here still plays C2 but check out the work of this modder. He's created an awesome mod converting a gaming mouse/keyboard to the C.E.L.L. livery for a competition.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Guys, I seem to have some smoke/dust issues - it's seems too opaque at times. A quick googling didn't get me to people with similar problems, so I was wondering if anyone else had it and what's the fix? Win 7 x64, Cats 12.4, game patched to 1.9, then with high res pack, then with DX11 patch, maximum settings.

EDIT: Or maybe it's supposed to look that way, I took a look at this gameplay video and the effect seems just as opaque (the screenshots are just after the first contact with a squid, which is where the video begins as well).

I haven't started this game in quite some time. But, that actually looks pretty good to me. If you're wanting to see important targets, use the heat sensor goggles.

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

Yeah, it was a noob question, Nano-vision FTW.

I'm a wee bit disappointed with the tessellation performance. It's a "Meant to be played game", but still, switching objects quality from Ultra to Extreme (tessellation on/off) in some places means the difference between 20 and 60fps. I eventually reduced Tessellation Level in CCC to 16X (default is 64). That allowed me to keep everything on Ultra and have smooth gameplayj, with relatively minor reduction in tessellation quality.

From left to right, tessellation 32X, Off and 16X:

Re: Crysis 2 : Maximum Owners Thread

It's AMD cards that seem to have an issue with the game and tessellation. On my nVidia the performance hit was quite minor.

People on the mycrysis forums have determined that there are massive amounts of seemingly unnecessary tessellation - for example the barriers which are for the most part flat are heavily tessellated. The tessellated ocean is still being processed in areas where it is not visible to the user.

This seems to have much more impact on the red cards than the green and of course the red team users have accused Crytek of underhanded practices.
