X-Com
Anyone still play this or any other game of the series?
I recently started a new game on..I think veteran difficulty (3rd one). It's the fully patched game from GG. My first base is in Switzerland, unfortunately some times it feels like the mountains interfere with the whole detecting UFOs thing. I have a second base, research only, in central Africa. When I can I plan on establishing another fighting base somewhere in the USA. I have noticed increased activity near the north Pole and near Madagascar. My offensive teams are made of 10 troops plus 1 tank. Laser rifles are the main weapon, with one of each, explosive, smoke and proximity grenade. One of my troops also carries a number of stun bombs. Depending on the map, I split them into 2 or 3 groups, with the tank as a recon unit. I recently finished my first anti terror mission. It was a kind of a massacre, at least for the civilians, but the mission was a success. I hope to learn a lot from the two live aliens captured. The 17 killed were good too. ![]() It was a much harder mission than expected, with most of the aliens of the Chrysalid variety. You know how that goes... Here is a pic from the results of that mission.

Re: X-Com
Yes, it's great and I had never played it until it came out on Steam, so its not just a game that "was good", It is better than most games coming out today.
According to Steam I have 30 hours played and I still had not actually beat the game. I also realized today that I forgot to copy my saved game when I reinstalled windows a couple weeks ago, so there goes 30 hours. Looks like I'll be starting a new game. Not sure if you know or not, but 2K is working on a remake of the game. RPS Exclusive: XCOM – The First Interview | Rock, Paper, Shotgun |

Re: X-Com
You are talking about the first person shooter, right? How is that a remake only 2K knows.
I am too tired to get into the whole "this isn't turn based thus can't be X-Com" argument, but in general I agree. Too bad some publishers are scared too much to try something that isn't a FPS/ThirdPS any more. I would be far more happy if some one else tried to fund a proper remake, for example Matrix Games, or even 1C. Anyway, good thing the original still works.

Re: X-Com
Yeah, I agree. It isn't really a true sequel in my eyes either. They are probably just using the X-Com name to help it sell, but that being said the game looks like it has the potential to be good from what I have seen and read. Just don't get your hopes up.

Re: X-Com
What a great game, I played the underwater version for the first time when it came out on steam and had fun for a while but could not bring myself to finish it. I loved the original when I was a kid.

Re: X-Com
The war is going....well, I think.
Another month has passed and I got an excellent grade from the states. Extra funding is always good. I am considering starting the new base I was talking about earlier. USA or Japan. What helped was a take down of a large UFO over the former Yugoslavia. Unfortunately, even though I captured the enemy UFO, it wasn't as easy as I had planned. I lost 1/3 of my team and another third were heavily injured. The capturing of an alien leader and engineer is well worth the cost. Part of the problem is I didn't have a proper recon vehicle, which I just solved with the manufacturing of my first (of at least 3 total) laser tanks.

Re: X-Com
I intercepted a smallish UFO over Ukraine, both my interceptor and UFO got hits, but not enough to down either. The UFO decided to land and hide by a village. My (reduced in numbers) team arrived ASAP. The welcoming committee was hot. Explosions and weapons firing everywhere. I lost one of my laser tanks to a mysterious alien explosive. The team managed to kill enemy hiding (or foraging?) inside a nearby building. They had to make an extension to the window there to achieve this. They are not the brightest or the most skillful Earth has to give.
The actual UFO has landed just to the north west. There are at least 2 aliens hiding in the wheat field to the west. My main problem, apart from the aliens firing at me, is that all of my troops apart from 1, are rookies and not exactly very strong. I hope for the best, but I doubt I will make it through this without any casualties. EDIT: MUWAHAHAHAHA I knew the enemy was hiding at a "corner" of the field, I cornered him there with most of my units, then there was a rain of grenades on them. I never saw them, but nothing remained ![]() There were two aliens behind the hedges near the UFO, but thankfully my sergeant on overwatch managed, with a little help from a stun bomb noob nearby, to neutralize them, although she got got injured in the process. Overall, a job...done.
