The Witcher 2: May 17
I made my purchase a couple days ago on GoG.com and have the pre-download portion of the game taken care of. Just waiting now for the official release to get the final portion and be able to begin playing.
I'm really surprised that there's not been much activity on this board about this...and many other upcoming games. Where's all the chatter about these highly-anticipated games coming out: L.A. Noire Deus Ex: Human Revolution ...and many others? It's almost like the gaming forum here is dead. ??? |

Don't worry Dyre, I've pre-loaded it from GOG as well...
Gaming is alive and well as far as I'm concerned, just too busy for much gaming, or much foruming for that matter

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
I find it impossible to buy Witcher 2, although I did pre order it. I never played much the first one, and paying full price for a game which I will play only after I played the first one, feels like a bad move.
The other games you mentioned, LA Noire and Deus Ex....I will get the first one next month if the price has lowered a bit or if there is a special collectors edition. Otherwise, I will just wait. I recently bought Demon's Souls, NBA Jam and expecting delivery of Alpha Centaury pack, History Rome (DS), Motorstorm Pacific. I already talked a bit about Demon's Souls on a new thread.

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
Getting The Witcher 2 from GoG was great and I'll be playing it for a while now I expect. My Core 2 Duo CPU is a bit weak for the game, much like my previous CPU was a bit weak for the original back then. But with a short LOD level range it's still playable and good looking. It's great to see a game that's made for PC's nowadays, and the story element is impressive so far. My only gripe is that I prefered the camera being further out from the character like in the original game, here it's more like in The Elder Scrolls series. But that might be configurable yet. Motion captured faces like in L.A. Noire would have been great here when the rest of the graphics are so good, while in L.A. Noire for what I've seen it can stand out as a bit wierd in the mix of all the other bland graphics.
A tip to the newly starting, in the first dialog where you can pick between which part of the past to talk about, begin with the item listed first. I picked the part of the dragon and not having familiarised myself with the controls I got butchered over and over on the standard difficulty. A rude awakening.

Heh
Compare the graphics here with the graphics from the Dragon Age 2. It puts it to shame. Is the animation of the fire as good as the screenshot makes it to be?

FYI, and FWIW, Fry's Electronics has TW2 on sale for $34.99. That's $15 off the regular MSRP.
I'm such a sucker for the hard copy stuff I had to use a "price match" at Micro Center to get my hard copy this evening.

Can your character be one without white hair?

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
Geralt's white heir is as much a part of his character as is Bat Man's mask and cape, The white hair is explained in the original game as well as in the novels upon which the games are based. He even has a nickname: White Wolf...which references the fact that he has a mane of white hair. To change that would be akin to desecrating the very character.
You can, however, level up and change his armor and weapons, improve his skills, and combat moves. There's a lot that can be done in the game and many players, e.g. myself, barely scratch the surface. |

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
I know why he has the hair he does. I just refuse to play with a character with white hair. Yes, I am weird like that about this.

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
There are quite a few mods already, including one for dark hair.
Full List of Mods - The Witcher 2 - Forum - - GOG.com There's also one thata makes it even whiter, lol. I've put this game on hold. There are a few niggling issues but what puts me off for now is how dialogues are often enough drowned in background noise. It's too big of a hit to the immersion. Patch is expected later this week so maybe it's improved soon enough. |

The Witcher 2 has gotten its second patch. Starting the game should automatically start the patching launcher.

Re: The Witcher 2: May 17
Just completed the game following the Elf path. It's quite a ride!
Before tackling the other path/s I think I'll take on L.A. Noire while my son isn't using it. He finished that a few nights ago. |
