XBOX Live! Family Plan
We (myself, my married son and my daughter-in-law) all live under the same roof. So, since we each have our own XBOX 360, we decided to go with the Family Payment Plan since it would save a few bucks.
So, everything seemed to be fine....UNTIL....I decided to download a trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider game. Instead of being able to download it, I got a "Content Not Allowed" message. I brought this to my son's attention and he made a phone call. Come to find out that, even though he had set up his wife and me as ADULTS on the account, Microsoft has taken the position that anyone OTHER THAN the main client on the account cannot download certain content. Tomb Raider??? Not Allowed??? So, I checked out some other options, and found out I'm blocked from NetFlix and other such content....EVEN THOUGH we went through all the settings and granted permission to me to do this. During the phone call, he was told that this is standard policy when a Family Account is setup as they ASSUME that anyone OTHER THAN the main account holder will be MINOR children. Calling them won't get any changes made and he was advised to send a letter to Microsoft at the XBOX Live! dept. I sent a letter and am still waiting on some kind of a reply. Has anyone else run into this and gotten any satisfaction from them? It's rather humiliating to be drawing Social Security, be semi-retired and have to ask your 40+ year old son for permission to download a TOMB RAIDER trailer. <sigh> |

Re: XBOX Live! Family Plan
YEah, I gave up on MS BS regarding Live some time ago and bought a PS3, leaving the 360 just for the exclusives.
The mistake you are making is that you assuming that just because you are smart and capable of logic, everyone else is too. I wish you good luck with this BS, and eager to read any updates you have on it.

Re: XBOX Live! Family Plan
About a week and a half ago, I sent another letter to MS XBOX Live! and attached my original letter. I pulled no punches and emphatically demanded they respond to my request and get the issue fixed.
[Knock on wood] It seems, as of now, the issue has been corrected. I've not turned on the 360 in a few days and, awhile ago, I turned it on mainly in order to check out a new HDMI switch I brought home. (That doesn't work but it's another story.) Anyway, as soon as I turned on the 360 I got a notice of an upgrade on my box. After the upgrade, I've now been able to download three demos....which before were giving me the "Content Not Allowed" message. So, here's hoping -- with fingers crossed -- that they have made the correction to my account. I'll have to wait now and see if that fix required my leaving the Family Payment Plan or not. So far, there's nothing hinting at that. BUT, I still have not gotten any written response from them. And, not holding my breath for one, either. |

Hopefully it is fixed.
