Re: Gaming pc and peripherals

Can you provide us with a short list of games that you play, notably the most recent ones, along with a budget?

A resolution would be helpful too, if you already have a monitor or know how large a monitor you want to get

Re: Gaming pc and peripherals

Seeing as how COD4's "recommended" specs aren't very high, at least now, any current gen, or last gen CPU and GPU should do you just fine. Seeing as how I'm an Intel boy I'll post some suggestions along those lines (at the moment I just have time for the 4 main parts):

Processor:
Intel i5 2400 ($205)
Intel i5 2500 ($220)
Intel i5 2500K ($240)(unlocked version)

Motherboard (from lowest to modest pricing):
Asus P8H61-M LE ($90)(mATX)
Asus P8H67-M LE ($110)(mATX)
ASUS P8P67 LE ($130)(full sized board)

Personally I would take the last board as it would give you everything you need (lots of expansion slots, 2 more RAM slots, plenty of SATA ports) with the exception of being able to do SLI. If you want that option you will need to add at least $50-100 for a good board.

GPU:
Nvidia GTX560 (average $200-250)
AMD/ATI HD6850 (average $180-200)
AMD/ATI HD6870 (average $220-250)

Prices depend on manufacturer, type of cooler (the more customized the cooler the more expensive), factory overclocking, and so fourth.

RAM:
Corsair XMS3 CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB Kit (2x2GB)
Corsair XMS3 CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB kit (2X4GB)

I always recommend Corsairs XMS3 to people as it is "usually" the most compatible/stable, however if you intend to overclock then I would look elsewhere, or to Corsair's Dominator line.

Re: Gaming pc and peripherals

One thing to look out for are bundle deals. A lot of companies, like NCIX, Newegg, and so fourth, will have deals when you buy specific parts together, such as mobo/RAM, mobo/CPU, and so on, or even deals when you buy multiple parts all together.

Edit:
Gigabyte is also another brand to look at for motherboards, so here's 3 more to look at from them:
Gigabyte GA-P67A-D3-B3 ($125)(full size)
Gigabyte H67M-D2-B3 ($90)(mATX)
Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2P-B3 ($70-$90)(mATX)
