PVB

A group of my friends, myself included, play LAN games on occasion but we keep going back to the same few games. One of the main problems is that we enjoy playing co-operatively against bots. The other major problem is the budget. It needs to be really cheap.
We currently play:
  • Unreal Tournament 2004
  • Unreal Tournament 3
  • C&C First Decade (well, usually Zero Hour)
  • Battlefield 1942
  • Dawn of War (first one, all expansions - second one only two people have)
  • Call of Duty: United Offensive (though not pvb, played on the odd occasion)
  • LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth
We've tried playing MMORPGs but the problem is finding one that we all like and not going off and playing it without everyone else. Then, they don't want to go back and help the lowbies.

If anyone could add to this list it would be appreciated. FPS usually go down well, except Counterstrike.

Re: PVB

My older son and I really do like Star Trek Online. We both bought Lifetime subs and am quite satisfied with the enjoyment we get out of it.

You can set up a Fleet for just those you want to play with and there are some really nifty fleet campaigns in STO. Then, if you want to go off alone, there are those, too.

Cryptic, IMHO, have done the game justice with continued support and updated campaigns. And, there are user-made campaigns that are rated by the gamer base.

Since we have the Lifetime sub, I don't even keep up with what the monthly would be now. But, it can be played up to a certain level and/or time limit for free. That way, you can see if it's your cup o' tea or not.

Re: PVB

Problem with Star Trek online is that it's subscription-based, which I don't want to pay for and others can't afford. Besides which, it'd be played once a week, twice at most.
Ideally, we're looking for an FPS.

Re: PVB

For how many people co-op at once? The first Ghost Recon games (game+expansion packs) had co-op campaign with at least 2 people. I don't remember if it supported more.
I never tried them online, but I am pretty sure that both Rainbow Six Vegas games have co-op too.

For something different, Dangerous Waters (currently on Steam on sale) allows you to play with others controlling ships against AI.

I wish I could give more details about them but the only two semi-recent games I played co-op were Zero Hour and Emperor Dune and Ghost Recon. Everything else either single player or multiplayer (PVP)

Doesn't Guild Wars also allow coop?

Oh, almost forgot it, Borderlands. That allows up to 4 people on the same team.

Re: PVB

Borderlands, L4D, L4D2 (if you can call a bunch of zombies bots), TF2 (now free to play), Medal of Honor MP, Battlefield Bad Company 2... I wanna say SC2, but didn't get to play it a lot yet.
