Re: Dead Island

I love this game, it's great fun and it can even easily be tweaked to be even better. There's a forum thread with a number of great tweaks here. I searched for a way to fix the remapping problem with the 'swap' key and found so much more. I've also changed the FoV and made the weapons a wee bit more durable, but you can do anything such as upping the zombie count, removing bloom, totally modifying skills, abilities, merchants, loot etc. Myself I'm not into 'cheating' but there's even a fists of fury tweak with a freaking hilarious video. It's a huge growing thread but the front page has a continuously updated summary.

Re: Dead Island

Quick question about the PS3 version. According to the manual, the R2 is used for Fire/Hit but no where in options is such an option, instead you are forced to use R1. Am I missing something?

On PC with gamepad you can switch to Lefty control pad maybe that's what you need to do.

Re: Dead Island

No, that switches the thumpsticks.
I guess I will have to get used to it unless they release a new patch allowing to change it.
I hate it how on so many PS3 games the R2 is not used as a trigger but instead the R1!!!

Re: Dead Island

Earlier today I had my first autosave bug. Went back about an hour of gameplay. I am going to stop playing till they release the patch. It's annoying cause I am having so much fun with the game. I am in few hours and I have almost exclusively dealt with side missions and exploring. Wish more FPS had this amount of freedom and quantity of game in them.

Re: Dead Island

i didn't experience anything besides one crash to desktop until last night. i got the supermarket quest from the mayor and when it tried to load the supermarket it took longer than usual and when it came up i was blind and couldn't move, and slowly dying. the hud was visible and the inventory and other screens worked but i couldn't see my weapon or anything else. luckily i'm in the habit of backing up my saves and i tried it again but with the same result. seems it's game over for me

Re: Dead Island

Finished it yesterday night. 39 hours played weekday evenings and this past weekend. Ending was sad, but life can be when you're in the middle of a zombie outbreak.

Near the end i was getting sick of fighting the zombies. In fact starting at the city level, i was just running down the streets and when my stamina got low, jumped on a car and waited for it to replenish and run off again. When i felt like it, i would bash their heads with a heavy object. Usually 1 - 2 hits is all it took. They can't reach you when you're on objects like cars or trash containers.

Later on in the jungle, having a samurai sword meant kicking the zombies as they come towards you which would unbalance them and then SWOOOOSH. Heads off. "Ok who's next?" It was that or kick them a few times and then crush their skull (when you activate that skill). Either way later on when you have 3-5 runners that rush you, it was just kick, slash... kick, slash... kick, slash.

Firearms sounded cool and all had a good punch to them (unlike Doom 3). I didn't really bother upgrading too much, seems like whenever i did, a better weapon would come along so didn't waste too much time and money (not like it isn't unlimited anyway, finished with over 100k).

Human enemies were a joke. Most of the time they hid behind an object with their head sticking out, BOOM, headshot.

I encoutered 1 crash where the game was rendering the scene at like .0001 FPS, was able to access the menu and quit. Lost maybe 10 mins of play after the last checkpoint. Other than a few little stupid things like park your car, go do a mission, come back, car is not there anymore and after accepting a mission (checkpoint saved), i would quit and upon reloading i would be inside the house of that very mission. Uh, i would have liked to have gone there myself?

Had a good time overall. Would like some freeplay now. Which reminds me, i have the option to continue and it tells me i already finished the game and i would be restarting a new game with all my abilities intact. I wonder if the missions and levels are locked again. If so, i won't bother playing. Would like to be able to roam around and go between levels.

Try it and let us know.

I'm still waiting for the patch. I don't want to lose more hours to the bug, it's the principle.

That is exactly why I don't like games like these (zombie games) and Fallout 3, they're just too depressing and sad, everything's dead and destroyed, I don't know why people like these types of games so much.

And the ending is sad? You could just tell it was going to be sad from the trailer of this game. Not going to touch it, not even with a ten foot pole. I hate games like this. I know hate is a strong word but unfortunately I do. They're just too dark for me.

Re: Dead Island

You should stay away from the film "He was a quiet man".

I understand what you mean, but I don't necessarily have an issue with them. As to why people like them, well...why do people like listening to love songs when they have problems in that area? It can actually make you feel a bit better, some times.

No point in mentioning the ending is sad...Some people might actually want to hope there is a good (positive) ending in the game. No reason to spoil that for them...

Re: Dead Island

Let me say that i might have worded it wrong. The ending is not sad. There is a sad part at the end is what i should have said.

The game is based on a zombie theme, and where there are zombies there is death and destruction. But, it still remains an action/adventure game. Hell you heard a few of us say that the game is like FarCry, so it's an FPS where you kill enemies, like many other games out there, so it doesn't make it sad in that sense. The trailer was dramatic and can probably be labeled depressing, but don't judge the game based on it.

Bottom line, it's an action/adventure FPS. It's fun to play and as a gamer, i play games (mostly FPS) of varying themes.

edit: forgot to say that i continued my game and it restarts with the campaign locked again, but you keep your weapons, money and skills. The zombies are leveled up and there are more of them. I'm near the end again and will finish it for a second time and then revisit on-n-off for a third time to see if it gets harder and harder and also boost my skills. This time i roamed around alot more and found missions that i completely missed and of course finding some missed ID Cards and Harold Excerpts.

Would love to play this 4 player coop online. Maybe some day, if i decide to invest more time in it.

Re: Dead Island

You think the latest patch (PS3, I don't know what you have) fixed the save issue? I am more scared of going back to the game to lose hours to a bad save than the zombies right now.

Re: Dead Island

Yes, I'm still playing...
I played with the 1.3.0 patch and the inventory system is buggered up. Oh and all my key bindings were reset. No biggie just redid my config.

So now when you are holding a pistol, for instance, and pick up alcohol bottles then your pistol gets removed from the quick inventory and placed in your inventory and your left holding the alcohol. So i spent alot of time going in and out of inventory and putting items back into the quick menu.

Hey Joe did you finish coding the new patch yet?
Uh, yah sir. Should we play test it?
Nah! Ship it!

Other than that reached level 50 and found more ID cards
Oh and BlueMak, you called me MC Hammer in another thread, thanks, just unlocked this:
