Anyone else looking forward to this game? I was 50-50, but the more info I get, the more interested I am in it.

I haven't seen one piece of gameplay that made me think this would be a great game but the promotional side of it has been amazing and left me wanting more. I'll probably make it 90% through the game before the hype wears off and I realize it wasn't good.

Release day purchase for me. However, i have purposely avoided any media about the game as not to spoil it too much. Can't stand looking at too much footage/making of/etc... about a game/movie before it's release. Can't be that bad. If i survived through DNF, i will survive through this (and many others to come).

IGN review is up, doesn't say much but the review tagline "Fallout 3 with Zombies" does intrigue me. I just haven't seen enough gameplay to decide anything I'm going to go let the critical consensus by my guide with this one. It's definitely at the top of my "Must Play" list but that's only because its release is days away.

Yeah, though I can't say I trust IGN reviews particularly, what I read is similar to what others who (claim to?) have played the game say so. It has some rough spots here and there, but it is a very good game.
I was waiting for a first person zombie game for ever too.
So, I ....couldn't help myself, for the second time in my life I pre ordered a game. Let's hope this one will be much better.

Why order for PC your gaming rig would look way better. I'm waiting to play it and LA Noire on PC rather than consoles. When reviews knock the graphics on console I know it's not worth touching that version.

Seems the story element is about as bland and weak as usual, which is kinda where hopes were high for this game to be different. Probably great fun in co-op mode, but otherwise I'm expecting the grind and gore to bore me out before long. While I did finish Left 4 Dead 2, it was guns-guns-guns and humorous.

With more and more DRM on PC games, with more shit every day that you need to install. With the way Windows 8 coming and who knows how compatible it or the next version of Windows will be with not just the games but also the DRM of the "past". I prefer to buy multiplatform games on PS3, or 360 for when not available on the PS3, than on the PC. At least then I know the games will be playable as long as I have a working system and not rely on online servers to be online.
I can deal with some extra loading times, not using the mouse and lower res textures. I am not going to give more money to DRM companies when I can avoid it.

From what I understand the game is about survival, not full on run and gun like Left 4 Dead, nor adventure like heavy story dependent . It's a first person action RPG with zombies and a freeroam system. More like Fallout 3 than Left 4 Dead.
That I like a lot since I never managed to enjoy L4D and I like first person view, RPGs, and fighting zombies.


Obviously if that doesn't sound good to you, you shouldn't worry about buying it.

One of a reviewers I enjoy, said the game isn't great in either story or combat, but it is still worth it and better that dead rising. Her full review is not out yet, and I don't always agree with the results, but so far it's looking good.
Come on Amazon! Ship the game!

Review scores have been all over the map. IGN 8/10, Team Xbox 9/10, Edge 3/10, Gamefront 6.5/10.. it's ridiculous. Even more so if you read the articles, because they all gave scores based on, what appears to be, the same like, dislikes, and issues. I guess that's why it pays to read the articles, not the scores.

Reading a few different articles I keep going back to what one site said, "Fun game, lots of zombies, nice big game world, but... weak story, definitely made for co-op, bugs and graphical glitches."

While I want to try it there's just way too much coming out right now that I want to play, so it's getting the back burner for now. In particular Resistance 3 came out today too, and it's getting great reviews, so that's top of the gaming list for me.

I don't understand reviewers who downgrade the game for "weak story". It's a freaking zombie survival story. WTF were they expecting it to be, Shakespeare?

Why would anyone (reviewer) score it lower for what the game isn't? (L4D clone). The game isn't an arcade like shooter than L4D. Why punish it for it? Rate the game for what it is, not what it isn't. You might as well score it low for not being a turn based RPG with zombies. They both have zombies!
I am sick of bad reviewers.


I don't know how good the game is yet, waiting for my copy, but I know not to trust most reviews. I want facts.

Sure, but what's it worth fighting for survival if the story is weak and dying is a mere nuisance? Seems the melee system is not too impressive either, despite it being the focus of the game.

The US realase on Steam seems botched, they put out the wrong version of the game. Or so they claim is the reason for all the bugs.

You survive to survive...I don't see how story has anything to do with it apart from setting up the game world.

I don't know about the melee system, most of the time people who claim that play the PC version with the mouse, which as you might know, is not the best option. I am not saying that this is it, but there is a good chance it is.
Having said that, I don't think there is any game which has excellent melee combat in first person view.

No idea what Steam did wrong, not surprised if they did something wrong, but not the end of the world.

I spent most of last night playing it, I love it! It has some minor bugs, but nothing game-stopping so far, and I had to mod a little to widen the FOV to my liking, but otherwise slicing and bashing zombies is wicked fun!

I played it for a few hours today on PC and after adding 4x MLAA and 16AF the graphics look a lot cleaner and remind me of Far Cry. I found it a jarring at first without any AA as it spoiled the immersion. Without a doubt, the island setting sells the game and it's great to look at I can't imagine getting into the game if it were in a dark urban setting like Left 4 Dead. I'm not sure if the sound is off or if it's my headphones but I find it hard to locate zombies it sounds like they're coming one direction but it's usually another; will have to try it with 5.1 speakers to see what's up with that.

I like the game and it reminds me more of FarCry 2 with Zombies than Fallout 3 (especially the driving) and the quests and zombie killin' are a lot more fun than Dead Rising. I could see myself playing this game to the end which something I don't do often enough. I haven't gotten any firearms just blades and blunt objects but I could see how too many guns would ruin the challenge. I hope there are chains and nun chucks...those type of cool looking weapons.

I played for, according to Steam, 100 minutes, and so far agree with OmegaRED that it is alot like FC2. This is no L4D. The look reminds me more of Far Cry Instincts than Far Cry. The pace is very slow, like Land of the Dead slow. Walk around, look through luggage, drawers, lockers to pick up money and other objects which give you wealth (if this is wrong then correct me, not sure how it works yet) and of course melee weapons which you just hack-and-slash zombies with.

The first time i encountered 2 zombies at the same time it took me 10 minutes to kill them. Swing, miss, get knocked down, wait for the stand-up animation to play, swing... I could see it getting a little tedious. Oh, and you have a stamina bar, as you swing it depletes, so if you run out, you have to backpedal until it replenishes and then you could take another swing. Of course weapon choice is critical too, stronger ones will kill them, again, faster. And i didn't realize you can kick the zombies when they are down, which is a hell of alot faster than bashing them with a hammer.

I just cleared the Lifeguard station and that has become the new "base of operations" where you take missions from and there is map of the island that says "Fast travel". I guess that's like the Bus stations in FC2.

I thought FC2 was a little boring at first, but got into it pretty good and now load it up once in a while to find some diamonds and kick some ass. I hope this game has the same potential. So far i'm liking it.

Dead island is as good as farcry2 if not better .I,m not a fan off melee but dam this is fun.
Shame it not directx 10 or 11 but it stll looks great.If the island wasnt over run zombies i,d be booking my ticket.
Its my fav game for the year not sure it deserves 7/10 more like 9/10

It arrived today, I wasn't expecting it to arrive so soon.

I will start with the bad things. I noticed a strange...stuttering of sorts during some cutscenes. I can't say for certain it is the fault of the game though. I am experiencing something with the same effect when I am watching DVD and have upscaling ON. I am a bit worried, but I hope it is not going to continue. (PS3)


The rest are all good so far. Granted, I have only played a very early part of the game so far, so it might gets worse, though I doubt it from what I read from others.
The game looks and sounds great. So far I haven't noticed a need for AA, which is very rare in a PS3 game. What I find most impressive though is how fluid the movement and camera are. Amazing work on that.

Too early to say more.

The stutterring seems to have gone away when I switched 24hz to Off. Not sure if it is just coincidence or not, but for now, it is ok.

The game is good and aiming for specific parts is done in a very interesting way. As you look at the zombie, there is a....floating auto aiming crosshair, depending of course on where you look. It semi locks to the part of the body you look, centre your focus, so when you "fire" you hit, most of the time, that part of the body. Very cool when I insta kill a zombie with a good hit to the head.

The music was good, but I turned it off as I do with most FPS games. I want to be able to hear the enemy coming and not be alarmed by the music. But that's just me.

Very impressed with the graphics. Very clear and sharp, I was expecting some...fuzziness but thankfully that is not the case. There are some occasional low textures which "get in the way", but nothing too bad or that hasn't be seen before.

One last thing I will add is that it is depressing. The game is not if you want to feel, uplifted.

I made it to the lighthouse and starting to take missions from the people camping there, and also have access to a vehicle which is fun to drive around and mow down some undead.

Also starting to get a hang of the inventory screen. Modifying weapons, i created the bat with nails, so my homeruns are going to go up. Also upping my skills thanks to XP. Don't want to keep bringing up FC2, but this game suffers from the same 'clear an area, come back 5 mins later and the zombies have rematerialized'. But what can devs do? If it wasn't like that, would it be better to have the area empty for the remainder of the game?

I think as i upgrade my weapons and skills, the game will flow a little better. Having fun so far no doubt about it.

Like BlueMak, i feel a game like this shouldn't have any music. It should all be about atmospheric sound fx. I've been playing with music volume low, so far the tension music hasn't been too distracting. Don't need techno or heavy metal music banging in the background. I get some lag during game play once in a while, could be due to disk access, other than that, nothing to complain about.

While I hate that thing in FC2, so far I don't mind of it in this game. The main reason is that with zombies, you should never feel like you are 100% in the clear, and this is achieved with the respawning of zombies. I don't know how I will feel 30 hours down the line, but if I play the game that long, I guess I won't mind it that much.
