Have you tried it?
I tried the PS3 version and it was a disappointment.
My main issue with it is the stupid stupid decision not rare for a PS3 FPS game for some reason) to not allow you to choose the R2 as a fire button. Yes, it doesn't allow you to use your trigger button as the fraking trigger.


The other is the inclusion of assist aim, which I just don't understand in a FPS game...
Last, the graphics. How are these super graphics? Low resolution textures, pop ups, etc. The trees in particular look awful, exaggerating but they did remind me of vector graphics trees back in the early 90's when trees were at best made of 2-3 triangles.

The actually shooting element feels okish, but then I wouldn't know for sure with forcing me to use the R1 for a trigger...

I am sorry but I just don't get the stupid decision to not allow you to use R2 even as a third option.


So, with the PC version having Origin, 360 requiring GOLD, and PS3 having the stupid controls, I am not sure I am going to get this one.

R1 and R2 are analogue, so i believe they figure people will require a quick response button when playing an online shooter. You don't want to have alot of travel when you need to take a quick shot in the middle of a war zone. In an ideal world however, the controls, on all platforms, should be fully customizable.

I was tempted to try the beta on PC, but finally decided to wait for the official release which i have pre-ordered. This is my first time pre-ordering a game.

As for graphics i read that even on PC you don't have access to the highest settings, so could it be the same for consoles? They probably want feedback from people on gameplay mechanics and bugs rather than concentrate on eye-candy.

Shame you decided to skip the beta CJLMTLCA I would have to hear how the GTX 590 handles the game.

I don't know if Crossfire is the culprit or if it's just the drivers but the game won't run well for me for more than a few minutes before it stutters and more or less freezes up. I did manage to get a few rounds in on one map and it looked good enough to convince me I need to upgrade some hardware before the full game is out. No way would I play Battlefield game on anything but PC it has always been a PC title and should stay that way.

Ok i think you gave me the itch. Is it still available for anyone to try? I'm leaving to a friends house soon, so probably monday after work i'll DL it and give it a try along with the latest beta drivers.

Speaking of BF on PC, i did play BF 1943 on PS3 and it was fun. Even with a controller, i managed to rank 1st a few times. I miss playing that. I played very little BF2 and BC2 online on PC and hope to get some more hours online with BF3. PCTWIMTBP *

This doesn't make much sense to me. As soon as it is pressed a bit, it sends a signal which can initiate the firing sequence. I don't see how that is a problem. I use them in Red Dead Redemption and they are fine there too (And I don't use aim assist there).

Also, what about the 360 version? The triggers there are not similar?

I could perhaps understand not having just the R2, but to not even give the option to set it...it's lazy, stupid and just plain rude.
I don't think I will touch the game till they fix that, if they ever do.

As for the PC version, since I have the option of not getting the PC version, I am not touching it and its DRM. I trust EA with a private DRM scheme living as much as I trust them keeping multiplayer servers alive for sports titles, or Microsoft with buying songs from them, or SONY coming up with their own audio format for songs.
Or a Greek politician with money.

I played the Alpha and the Beta. The game is off my buy list at this time. The Rush maps are little more than run,gun,shoot and die maps (COD/MOH but pretty). The Caspian map wasn't running when I was on. So I didn't get to try it yet.
But so far, in various forums, Dice have given me more reasons not to buy rather than to buy. From what I have seen--it's a BF game in name only.

Having never played CoD online, I don't know how they compare. The BETA map feels a bit different from the Battlefield I know of, with huge maps and vehicles, but this might just be the specific map or game mode.

I try to give it another chance. The graphics, especially outside, still suck. Inside the Metro they range from very good to poor. I don't know who is to blame. There are other games which have much better graphics on the PS3, but do not have the terrain destruction.
Apart from a few glitches, I can't say anything else bad about it. I do hope they have another option to use R2 as a trigger, but I can't say I believe it will happen.


The game is fun, I haven't experienced any slow downs or times when things just gave up lol. The fighting is intense. Apart from a few "lone wolf" types (ie campers) in the outside region of the map, there seem to be a strange silent cooperation between players. I noticed several times players just acting like a real time, providing cover, helping, etc. It felt....beautiful. So much so that I think I am eager to get the game now more than yesterday. If I find it at low price for the PS3, I think I will get it.

If EA didn't force you to use Origin, I would get the PC version for the larger maps and more players, but...

Origin installed. BF3 downloaded. Browser add-on installed. Game Manager updated. Then, FA.

Press on Quick Match and get some game code error message and if i Join Server from the list then the Joining Server just spins for 5 minutes and FA.

I was an alpha tester and beta tester, and it reminds me of BFBC2 a lot (and BF2142). It's not as fun as either of those I think, but I don't regret my preorder. The graphics (while not taking a GTX 580 SLI to max out atm, like EA said it would) are better than BFBC2's (but not by much) while the gameplay is fun. It's not amazing, but it's fun -- I really appreciate the completely destructible environment. Having a tank shoot a crater into the ground that you can hide in makes for some excellent cover

But I remeber they said they aren't going to make the enviroment completely destructible ? I had downloaded the beta but something screwed at origin that want me to download it again, so I gave up.

There is some deformable terrain in the beta, but so far it looks like it is only in certain places.
In all, the vegetation and structures feel the same or less deformable than in BF1943, at least on the PS3. No where near as good and broad as Bad Company 2 on the PC.

I tried the BETA on PS3 yesterday it was terrible looking I would never play that game on a console. The only good thing was the quick match sure is faster than doing it through the PC web browser.

The outside map is horrible, I agree, but the one in the subway is not bad. Neither of them as good as Bad Company 2 on the PC though...
I haven't touched the PC version yet, but I bet it is far superior in the department.

Still, after playing for days this BETA, I know I am going to get it for the PS3. It is very fun. (and I kick ass with my 870 )

Bare in mind that game is built first for PC, of course it will be miles better than most console ports.

I am worried not only by the inclusion of Origin but for the lack of Lan play as well. On the other side MW3 will have lan support, public dedicted server (means anyone can setup their own sever without need to rent slots from server providers), VAC.. Look how time turned out.

Are you use about the lack of LAN on BF3?

I don't know what MW3 will have (or care),my problem with MW3 is with the single player campaign. I hate HATE how the endless horde till you move to certain distance works. It ruins it for me. I only bought CoD4 when I got it on sale for 5 euros or something.

BF3 on the other hand I am more interested in the online play, the demo was great fun, and BF2 and BFBC2, BF1943 and BF1942 were great fun too. .....I forgot what I was going to say.

Dice confirmed the game will ship without lan support, however they hinted they may implement something later but not pure lan option. If I understand this corretly it means that Lan if it ever get supported later will require some kind of server authencation over the internet to prevent piracy. Similiar to Unreal tournament one. I hate how developers are eliminating Lan support from most games now, even if everyone has an intenet connection I'd rather play with 0 ping than having +150 ping to play with my friends in one room.

Edit: Btw do you know that BF3 doesn't support Voip, I mean wtf a team based game with no option to voice chat with your teammates. I know it is going to be a good game or at least above average but some decisions from the development team make me confused.
On the other hand I know probably MW3 will be another MW/MW2 with minor changes but they really surprised me by taking the feedback from fanbase and not ignoring it. Check this Q/A about the PC version.

No Lan I can deal with, due to piracy that's par for the course these days but no VOIP is just lame. I should be able to jump into a squad of strangers and work together with them, helps make friends and not just think of everyone as mindless retards (they're people just like me ).

Couple tips as this issue isn't specific to one thing:

- ATM most antivirus software seem to think BF3.exe is a virus, or at least some sort of malware, and blocks it from either running (in which case the game quits) or blocking it from the net. If you can, add the whole BF3 folder to the exceptions list.

- If you are using an Internet browser other than IE, and it's set as the default, change it back. Open IE, and make it the default. I still don't get this one, but a couple people have sworn by it. It has something to do with a plugin of some sort that works in IE but not other browsers or some crap.

- On the same note, make sure that Battlelog.net is listed under IE's Trusted Sites list (options, security tab). If it's there, remove it, then re-enter it. Do this in IE regardless of what browser you are using.

- If, however, you are using IE, try a different browser.

- When in doubt, try repairing the game. You can do this from within Origin by right-clicking the BF3 listing, and choosing to repair. Note: this may or may not re-download the whole game, so be warned.

- Lastly, try running Origin with admin privileges, or do the same with the BF3.exe file itself.

Tipstaff, thanks i'll try those later on tonight. I should have thought about the simple things like FW and AV. Even though i use FF, IE (32bit) is set as my default. If i load IE from my taskbar it's 64bit, which i believe was not compatible with the Game Manager plug-in.

I received the game yesterday. I have only tried to play online for now.
Problems. 1)PS3 freezes, it might take an hour or 5 min. It will freeze. I have to have the power button pressed for a while before it shuts down, nothing else works.
2)There seems to be a weird aiming issue that did not exist on the BETA. Almost like a lag in aiming.
3)I will wait to see if there is anything done about the above, else I will see if I can ask for a refund or something.

I can only launch the game successfully in multiplayer half the time. Sometimes I have to exit origin then re-login for it to work. Also the voice party invites sent to me don't show up in my control panel but I can send out invites fine. So if my friends are already playing and I join in late, they all have to join my party instead of me just joining theirs. I have no idea why it is doing this.
