Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
Clocked about 30 hours in, playing on Master Mode. I'd recommend anyone trying mastermode to be sword and board. I'm 2handed and some mobs feel heavily overtuned, and I am using a "tank" companion.
The game also suffers from a "lack" of magicka regen. You'll run out of mana so much it gets frustrating. Enchanting gear with every % reduction and regen helps, barely. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
I came across a thread on the Archery issues, apparently the game has an aimbot and all you have to do is point your cursor at the enemy to get a hit not lead the target as you should. This results in all kinds of missed arrows.
Add these lines to fix archery: f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.0 f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.0 under the [Combat] section of 'Skyrim.ini' in C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My Games\Skyrim. No more magic arrows that fly up and you can lead + aim correctly. Read more on it here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2232723

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
dyre.... i have doubts that your crossfire is working.... disabling one card gives a nice boost in fps..
I spent another hour last night trying to kill the dragon after getting a bow and silver arrows. Lets just say that i can't for the life of me... kill this dragon... i can't get more than 3 or 4 hits in before i'm dead.. and i can't see to run away.. Am i suppose to kill this dragon on my way to greybeards or whatever they are called or what?

Begs the question: what level is everyone at? I just hit 36 hours of gameplay (I should leave my dorm sometime...) and am somewhere between 25 and 28 (I'm at 24 waiting to level up so I can finagle some training
).

Judas if its a random dragon it should fly off after some time if you don't engage it. If you've already hit it and then saved you may have to go to an earlier save.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
It engages me reguardless of what i do... like seriously...
walking from any place or even fast walk.... walking from the first town you get to up through to where you first start the game... the dragon just appears out of nowhere and is kicking my ass..... like i said.. you start walking a little ways out of that first town and there are bodies of animals all along the road.. and then suddenly.. your dieing from a freezing breath of a dragon.. In attempt to fast walk, you appear at the furthest distance.. and the dragon is RIGHT in your face the second you appear and can't fast walk the hell out of there.. and he just doesn't go away... I managed to glitch the dragon in that it never attacks me provided i don't attack me, but he just keeps circling me.... and if there is another npc that shows up.. bad or good.. the dragon will oventually kill them, and then come straight for me. Like i said.. i tried walking around the other side of the mountain and end up in the same senario.... using a superior hunting bow with 11 atk...... i'm lucky to land a single hit. I can't avoid the dragons fire breath at all, even when i jump behind rocks or fall down the side of a cliff to try and avoid it... each time it hits me with it.. i'm knocked down half of my total available health. He rarely lands if at all, usually flying in and hitting me on the go, or hovering just above me and laying it thick. Using a bow, i do probably 1/100th of his health per hit. Using a dragon shout that i get from the west tower has no clear use/advantage for anything aside from stunning normal npcs for about 1 second.... has no effect on a dragon beyond just pissing it off further. I have no magical talents...... so i haven't a clue what to do.

Why am I not surprised that Judas is the one suffering from all these problems both technical and gameplay?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
naw.. i don't need to steal anything..
although i did clean out the castle as none of it was marked as stealing.... turned a marginal profit from all the food and plates/pots and etc. Yeah i'm screwed on the whole dragon thing.... it definitely doesn't look like it was ment to be a random encounter.... it's like it's programed to purposely come and kill you if you try and get near the greybeards..... that's pretty damn shitty deal.. how do they expect me to do this?

Re the dragon... what happens if you fast travel to a dungeon location and go inside then complete it. Is the dragon still there when you get out?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
if i fast travel or walk around any other way and do other things... i still at some point have to get the greybeards or whatever they are called...... which always shows the dragon...
The last time i tried to go around, i did it during the peak of the day, and there was a crew of good and bad guys that were trying to kill the dragon.. but the dragon was one shotting all of them sometimes a single blast was enough to kill a group of them that were huddled together. In the end the dragon would kill them all usually from the air, and i'd be the last one standing running around in circles trying to avoid the dragons attack until oventually it would just swoop in reguardless of where i am and kill me. The moment the dragon pops up, i can't fast travel anywhere.

i made it up to the greybeards last night at level 8/9, seen the wolves and 1 frost troll just passed the female pilgrim. no other dragons except the one at the whiterun guard tower.
What level are you now Judas? maybe there is a certain level you should reach before heading to the greybeards? Maybe if your level is too low the dragon comes to woop on ya

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
I've now slain four dragons - including the first one at the West Tower. I've also seen some dragons that didn't attack anyone. They just flew around making lots of noise. Level 16 at the moment.
Not sure about whether the dragons remain in areas where you've seen them if you move away and come back. As Judas pointed out, usually when combat is activated, or an enemy is nearby, you cannot rest, wait, or fast travel. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
try to level up before you go up to the greybeards. Eclipse might be on to something that you need to be a higher level. I went up to the greybeards when I was level 18 or something, and there was no dragon to harass me.
Regarding the dragon you encountered that kept looking at you and you weren't able to deal any damage.. I don't want to spoil it, but it's a special dragon... You are not supposed to do any damage (just like how she/he doesn't do any damage to you) my lvl 23 woodelf archer (all elven armour and weapons )

as I've stated, provided with the right circumstances, such as not attacking it at all, but standing far enough away.... it'll leave me alone and just keep circling and roaring it's face off.... IF there is any NPCs that show up, it'll search out and kill them, then come for me..... I think it's bugged... All 3 of the dragons look DIRECTLY at me while they are flying provided they can turn their neck around to look.. My last dragon encounter the bastard pushed me off the cliff to my death.... thats when i quit out..... went to bed

Also, the cursor is zeroed in at a certain distance, about 50 yard. Anything after 50 yards, you have to account for the drop. Reading the forum; I don't know why everybody wants the flying pattern of Oblivion or another game.. this is freaking Skyrim. If you want the flying patterns of Oblivion, play Oblivion.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
I agree that Judas very, very likely needs to level up some more before heading for the Greybeards. I think I was close to Level 10 before I even attempted to go there. Try doing several side quests around town. I even cleared a couple of caves/dungeons before getting to Ivastead and then did some side quests there before heading up the 7000 steps.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
I get more dragon souls than I can use, and a lot more more dragon scales than I can sell.
One dragon was kicking my ass, but got bored by me running away to heal and flew away to attack a giant. The giant quickly dispatched of the only lightly wounded dragon and I got the spoils. ![]() Crypt bosses and the like are getting much more of a challenge now at around level 18. With no defense to speak of I have to time my attacks and use follower/conjured creature as much as possible. It's been about as challenging as I'd like to to be on default difficulty. I've stopped hunting for gold as I don't need or can't use much in the way of items. When my mana pool drains I'm naked but using an effective kind destruction spell against an enemy they tend to cook off before they can touch me. I can imagine sword&shield fights being more work in general. |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
what mods we using if any? I see judas blew his shit up with the FXAA injector. I used that along with trying some of the various configs floatn around for it with no issues.
So far liking this one a lot Himmelsrand Custom Shader Suite at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community Its setup a little differently then the others, using a pre sharpen as well as post sharpen. Of course all values tweakable. side by side pic from the mod, ive changed mine abit. Jumping also felt abit off to me, with this mod you can increase it from its default of 76 units. I opted for only a small increase to 85, just enough tho for my taste. Last edited by [hobo]eclipse; Nov 17, 2011 at 12:40 AM. |

Yeah I was thoroughly unimpressed when a bunch of people were swearing by the FXAA injector and i folded and decided to give it a whirl only for it to royally screw up my game and no matter what I've done i can't fix it.... therefore i'm just going to wipe skyrim off the drive and restore from an untouched backup i made before i had a chance to even load the game and let it detect let alone create configuration files. Then i have to go about fixing the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini up again.. At least every single time i have to do it.. i make significant progress in keeping frame rates up and quality higher then previous. Still I've wasted probably 12 hours just with that. Aside from mobs.... I've thrown the smooth faces and higher resolution npc textures on, top it off with a new night sky enhanced mod.... the sun mod that doesn't give that adobe photoshop lense flare... actually give it a realistic glare that you would get if you were looking at the sun ..... There is a few others that increase texture resolutions significantly.. making the need to adjust the LOD values to very aggressive levels totally unnecessary.... One of the guys did a few wood textures which he was surprised cover a good majority of the textures in the game... he initially was a little shocked by how often the same texture is repeatedly used and muniplated.. That's how they made the game so small in comparison to lets say dragon age.... Dynamic world with a very minimal amount of textures (low resolution textures i might add) combined with very very efficient use of texture mapping and scaling.... I think a bunch of 4096x4096 textures on everything will make for an amazing world.. most of the textures are indeed just console port overs..... they didn't even bother to recompress the file in a modern compression scheme (resulting in pretty fowl textures) I mean just look at the textures on the loading screen, some are great... but clothing in general looks hideous and out of place.

Without spoiling anything, I was in one cave and, once I got what I came for, the draughs came out of the woodwork! There must have been at least a dozen of them coming after us and all in one room! The problem was in deciding which one to aim for first!!! LOL!

heres a small screenshot gallery with comparisons of the shader from my previous post off and on.
and here are some of the options available for play in the config file Code:
//TONEMAP: Completely post processes the colours for more natural contrast and saturation (leave SKYRIM config gamma at 1.0, use gamma below to adjust for your monitor #define Gamma 1.17 // higher values give a darker and more saturated colour band #define Exposure 0.046 // simulates exposure: higher values dramatically increase strength of bright parts of the image, used here to balance the overall loss of gamma brightness and to increase the overall contrast #define Saturation 0.12 // strength of the colour band, lowered here to balance the excessive saturation caused by high gamma whilst retaining high and natural contrast #define BlueShift 0.005 #define Bleach 0.00 #define Defog 0.00 #define FogColor float4(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 3.0) //VIGNETTE: Very subtly darkeness the images close to monitor edges, effect often used in film to concentrate the imgage and "force" the frame #define VignetteCenter float2(0.500, 0.500) #define VignetteRadius 1.0 #define VignetteAmount -0.1 //POST-SCHARPENING: final sharpening pass to smooth out the finished frame and retain and overall crisp image float Sharpen = 0.08; |

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
So i'm back up and running 100%...
I'd like to post the final and risk free settings for you guys if you wish to try... WARNING: the Skyrim.txt (should be renamed skyrim.ini) has a setting that if you use it and find that you don't like it and SAVED any games while using it, will make it so you cannot load a saved game that was saved while using it. just a fyi... otherwise the Skyrimprefs.txt (should be renamed skyrimprefs.ini) is flawless.... Just open it up and plug in your Resolution and also make sure to copy the EXACT same line from your orginal file for the "YOUR VIDEO CARD HERE" and put it in my modified one... Enjoy the level of detail better than ULTRA..

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion
Anyone else have some constant failure of textures loading when moving from location to location? Seems that, after some extended playing time, I enter a new area and a lot of things simply have the glowing while/blue "cover" on them.
And, is there a way to fix this without having to exit the game and reload again?
