---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your email. This is an automatic reply to confirm that your message has been received by us at hacks@blizzard.com. The hacks mailbox is unable to provide support for the following issues: * Obtaining lost or stolen account passwords. * Replacing damaged, lost or stolen CD keys. * Replacing lost or stolen items. * Requests for technical support and/or games play hints. All emails regarding these should be directed to support@blizzard.com or you can also call us at 1-949-955-1382, M-F 9am-6pm PDT and we'll be happy to help you out. Due to the volume of Email received by us at hacks@blizzard.com it is not always possible for us to respond to each Email message individually, this may be the only email you receive from us regarding this matter. Please be assured that your concern is being addressed, we do investigate *all* issues submitted to us. As such, please do not interpret a lack of response as a lack of action taken. Additionally, due to the amount of emails we receive we request that emails sent to hacks@blizzard.com be formatted as described in the "Where can I report hacks or exploits?" section under frequently asked questions. If you have not already done so please re-send your email formatted as noted below making sure to describe the problem in the body of the email and include any screen shots, replays, hacks, or other files as needed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. While it is our goal to combat cheating and hacking on multiple fronts, we realize this effort will be difficult without the active support of our customers and fans. With assistance, such as that provided by our customers and fans, our efforts to diminish cheating and hacking within the Battle.net community will prove to be more effective. Thank you for your show of support and concern, it is appreciated by each and every individual within our company. ************************************************** ************************* * Please Note: * * If your message contains obscenities, abusive, or threatening language * * directed at our staff, it will be discarded without further action. * * Please remember that the people who read emails at this address are * * working to address and/or resolve the issues submitted to us. - Hacks * ************************************************** ************************* Please take a look at http://www.blizzard.com/support/ for the latest support news and http://www.battle.net/forums/board.a...ttlenet-status for updated information on Battle.net. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions: Q: If I (or someone I know) use a hack (map hack, skill hack, etc.) will my account get deleted/banned/muted? A: In keeping with our aggressive stance against hacks and cheats, we have deleted accounts that were caught using hacks including but not limited to map hacks, duping hacks and server-crashing or game-terminating hacks. Please note, however, that for Diablo II if you do anything that is unusual (such as getting disconnected while in a trade screen on Battle.net), Battle.net will stop you from joining non-passworded games. This is usually a temporary problem and you should be able to join games again in the next day or two. We will continue to monitor the Battle.net Realms for malicious players. Be aware that if you are caught using a hack, we will take action against the account(s) up to and including having the account permanently banned and possibly even your CD-Key from accessing Battle.net. We regret having to employ these extreme measures, however, certain unscrupulous players have impaired the gameplay of the Battle.net community as a whole, and severe action is now both warranted and required. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Please note that these actions are final and will not be reversed under any circumstance. Period. Q: Is it OK to use the (map, skill, grab, etc.) hack as I think it is useful and/or doesn't hurt anyone or the game? A: See above. [COLOR=red] Q: I just reported someone for using a hack/duping/trying to scam people; will you actually take any action against them? A: We truly appreciate you alerting us to behavior that might negatively impact Battle.net's online gaming community. We will take appropriate steps to notify the offender of the parameters set forth in the Battle.net terms of use agreement as well as the consequences for not following the posted rules. While it is our preference not to ban players from Battle.net, we will not hesitate to do so in the event that players persistently violate the Battle.net Terms of Use agreement. [/COLOR] Q: How can I protect my computer/battle.net account from hackers? A: For information about protecting your computer against hackers please take a look at: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msi0504p [COLOR=red] Q: Can you send me any hacks, cheats, trainers? Can you teach me to hack? A: Blizzard Entertainment does not distribute hacks or information on their locations. We also will not teach you how to hack. [/COLOR] Q: Are all methods of duping stopped? A: All known methods of duping have been fixed. We will continue to monitor the Diablo II realms for duplication exploits and fix them as needed. Q: Why have some of my items of a certain type vanished? A: The Realm scans for duplicated items and may delete any duplicates that it finds. You might have traded for a duplicated item and it may have been deleted by our servers. Q: What items were selected for deletion? A: All rare and unique items were scanned for duplicates. Q: Why did Blizzard Entertainment only delete some of the dupes, and not every dupe? A: Blizzard Entertainment wants to maintain an enjoyable and balanced play experience for every user. To that end, we removed all but one duplicate item. We're making an effort to protect those players that legitimately traded for those items. Q: If I gamble for two unique items of the same type (e.g. two Stones of Jordan) or find them by killing monsters, will they be considered dupes and deleted? A: No. Items legitimately gained through gambling or dropped by monsters are not duplicates, even if they have the same name. Q: If I trade for an item, and already have one of the same type (e.g. I have a Stone of Jordan, and trade for another one from a player), will one of them be deleted? A: If the items are dupes, then one of them will be deleted. If you already have a certain item, then in order to prevent deletion it is suggested you not trade for a copy of that item. Q: Is there anyway to tell if an item is a dupe? A: No, there is no way to tell if an item is a dupe or not, however there is one exception. One of the last duping exploits put a socket on the item and/or personalized the item. You may want to exercise caution if the item is personalized or socketed. Q: Can you replace/restore my lost/stolen items? A: We are very sorry to hear that you are missing or have lost your items. Unfortunately, we cannot restore any items, no matter the cause. We are sorry for any inconveniences that this has caused you, but the only way to replace them is to find or trade for new ones. Although unexplained lost items can often be attributed to the following reasons: - If you die again before you pick up your corpse all the equipment that you have on your second body will fall to the ground. - Use of a 3rd-party program, such as a trainer, cheat, or hack, could install a type of back door or Trojan virus into your system. This can allow others to be able to steal your items, get your account password and/or other important information for your system. - The Realm scans for duplicated items and may delete any duplicates that it finds. we do look into reports of players losing items mysteriously. Although we cannot restore lost items, if you do not feel that your loss of items was due to the reasons above then please send an email to support@blizzard.com with the subject line "Lost items/ No Corpse" and tell us what happened. Explain what you lost, and what happened leading up to the time that you found the items gone. Also include your account name, character name, which realm you were on, and approximately what time and date the items disappeared. Q: Where can I report hacks or exploits? A: You can send your reports to hacks@blizzard.com. Please send your email formatted as noted below making sure to describe the problem in the body of the email and include any screen shots, replays, hacks, or other files as needed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Put the following information in the subject line of the email in this Format: [Account Name] or [Site Address] [Game Name] [Problem] [Realm/Gateway] Where as: * [Account Name] and [Realm/Gateway] are used when reporting a user to us for TOS/EULA violations while playing on Battle.net * [Site Address] is used when reporting an internet site (web, FTP, IRC, etc.) that is hosting cheat, crack or hack files for a Blizzard Entertainment title. * [Game Name] is the name of the game. Who cares anymore? D2 became boring after a few months and the only way to make it fun was to find exploits. If the game wasn't so hackable I would have quit much sooner. I made several dupe methods (I'm not some newbie who just reads a site and thinks he can hack) and I also discovered an alternate way to perform the matrix method. (Thats how many of the really good hacked items were made) It got boring when blizzard stopping fixing the exploits. I would send them an email for every exploit I found because I was more interested in finding loop holes rather than acctually using them.

Although you mention that the Blizzard policy seems to be "soft" on the hackers, I think that's the best way for Blizzard to act. By banning members only after several repeated and confirmed hacking instances, can Blizzard really make sure that a hacker is being banned and not some hapless and innocent victim. After all, there are insanely good players who we think may be cheating because they're so fast and good but, in fact, they aren't. It's just that they have practiced for many hours and know the maps inside and out.
