Star Wars: The Old Republic

So, who here is getting SWTOR?

I am in love with the game. While it did facelift a lot of stuff from WoW (UI, skills, items, etc.) it has enough new features to not be a total rip off, and the IP (IMHO, after Blizz screwing over Arthas and Illidan) is better than WoW's. The servers are stable, gameplay smooth, and have only encountered minor bugs. Might be the smoothest MMO launch ever (And I was there for the WoW, WHO, LOTRO, POTBS, GW, and other launches).

I preordered it in August and got access yesterday (right in the middle of finals, god dammit :l). Currently playing on Iron Citadel server as a lvl 12 Sith Assassin:

Hit me up ingame (Alzaik) if you get it and are Sith on that server.

Playing through the pre-release access too at the moment and enjoying it. Although your L12 Sith Assassin tells me the play to study relationship is a little off

WoW ripped off and improved from numorous other MMOS that predated it.... so it didn't rip anything off of wow.

Any idea what the subscription fee in Europe will be like?

I watched a couple of gameplay videos and I was impressed enough to want to try it.
I doubt I will pay it full price though.

That depends on how you look at it. The game feels and plays very much like KOTOR or KOTOR2. So, if this game feels like it's a rip off of recent games then technically TOR is a rip off of games that were ripping off KOTOR/KOTOR2. Someone once described TOR as "feeling like KOTOR3". That pretty much sums up how playing the game felt like to me.

I've had this game pre-ordered since it first came out, played every character in the beta to "feel them out", and yes, I will be buying it.. for sure. This is going to be the game (at least for now) that breaks my, "I will never pay a monthly fee to play a game" rule. I had that much fun playing the game.

Also, the whole dark-light personal alignment thing is bugging me. There's nothing for neutral characters!

Yeah, don't worry, one can tell from the press releases. To be honest I think I could take over press release responsibility for the entire computer hardware industry in my spare time and do a better job. No, that wasn't a joke.

It's been like this all day now with some servers having such ridiculous wait times. The screencap below is just a short list of servers (there are double this), with mine being at the top. While mine isn't so bad @ 15mins look at the bottom one: 1hr 55mins.

Yeah, it was like that on Friday night here. Strangely though last night i was immediately let in with no wait. Makes me wonder if they are still tweaking things.

If you dc/crash/logged out within the past 5-10 minutes, they automatically let you cut the queue (which is nice, something WoW didn't do). Happened when I got a few CTD.

Also, just hit level 20. Got to make out with a Darth, got my own ship, got to kill a bunch of civilians. Life's good. Taking a break until Wednesday when exams are done with

Also, EA apparently spent over $100m USD on this game -- and it shows. This game is more polished than WoW, and I've had ten times as much fun in it as I have since...well, WoW Vanilla really. Also, I think EA will make back what it spent in just preorders (thats 1,666,667 preorders to make it back, not counting subscription fees).

Also, just graduated from Balmorra. Favorite planet by far...I don't really like Nar Shaddaa.

Thing I've been noticing is that this game has been HIGHLY oversold. I remember an article where EA mentioned that there would be limited boxed and digital copies of the game sold at launch, but that's not what I'm seeing. If the servers are being hit this hard now, and all the people on here are pre-order guys and gals who are only on because they have redeemed their pre-order codes, what about those that haven't?

I think you'll find that, come game day, a lot of people aren't going to be able to get on at all. That, or queues are going to be so long that people are just going to give up on the game entirely.

They're launching more servers, and also increasing the capacity per server...they've been using this past week as a mini stress-test to see how the servers hold up.

PRetty sure they will raise capacity levels.

They need to put temporary caps in to stop new players joining full servers tho.

My server since friday has had 2hr wait times. and it starts at 40 mins from 2pm! lol and it's not even the most populated server. (basilisk Droid)

seeing 800 queue is no joke, it's depressing. whilst i understand high demand, surely they foresaw this and should have placed measures in. perhaps even offer transfers for a short period.

The game released today. The prior week was invitation only to pre-ordered people. So yes, they used the unreleased game play time people got as a mini test. I don't see anything wrong with that :P
