Half-Life 2 Release Date ??

Why do they need to rewrite the code? This makes me feel just that little bit more suspicious toward steam. I am now contemplating not getting the game, not when its first released anyway. The novelty and excitement have just about worn off and I'm starting to become "not bothered" about it.

Devil's advocate:

Valve purposefully leaks code so they can blame the mysterious "leak" on the delay with releasing the game. When the real problems are with Steam/ other problems not related to the leak and having to rewrite anything...

Just thinking about how things really go down sometimes. People will do allot to save face.

Just one highly unlikely but possible scenario. (anything is possible I guess) I have no reason to think they would do anything like this- it's just a passing thought.

I'm inclined to agree with you there. I kind of reckon the game just wasn't ready. I can't really see any reason for them to have to rewrite the the code just cos some of it was stolen, unless steam is going to do some very wierd things like checking peoples pc's for things they shouldn't. I remember the thread somewhere on here where people had found steam to be recording information like things in the temporary internet folder and kazaa folders etc. I'm beginning to think more and more that Valve are getting upto things a little to clandestine for my liking.

I guess the only people smiling right now with the april delay is Nvidia. They finally will be able to have ready a true dx9 VPU...who is more suspicious

Just wait till we find out that nVidia hired the hackers cos they were peed of at the poor performance on their cards

The thing is if they weren't almost ready why the hoopla? Why didn't they just go to their publisher and say this game is gonna be big and we need 1 more year. 1 more e3. It's all fine and good.

However they have subscriptions to steam that they want to sell. I'm wondering how many subscriptions they got a month before HL2 was supposed to come out. I think that's what this was about. They wanted more steam subscriptions. Or else they would have said something by now...

ATi set to make a Half-Life 2 announcement tomorrow

"AN OFFICIAL from ATi Technologies has exclusively advised the INQUIRER that the company is confident of being in a position to finally make an announcement regarding Half-Life 2 tomorrow (Thursday 24th October).

We anticipate this will be in relation to the bundling promises ATi has made to its trade and end-user customers, who have already committed to Radeon 9600XT and 9800XT product purchases. These guys will be sitting staring at their HL2 vouchers, wondering what theyre worth, we suggest.

Hopefully ATi’s statement will include an actual date they will start shipping Half-Life 2, and frankly, its about time the company put its customers concerns to rest, especially since Valve hasnt yet felt able to do so."

a little bit of luck things might look a little clearer on the situation of hl2.
