Losing FPS with HL: Day of Defeat with WinXp and Latest Omega/Red Drivers

Hey guys, I have a pretty decent system but yet my FPS don't stay stable at 99fps on a 3 year old game, they used to a month ago. Is it WinXP or what?

Anything I should do, bla bla

Sounds normal. Its the drivers. Opengl has not been optimized completely yet. Give it time.

No big deal. I think Day of Defeat uses some high poly models, so expect an fps droplike that, High poly models give a hard hit to the HL engine.

Ok,that's good to hear but then why didn't it go down way back with old school drivers like the 6011's and stuff?

That's because the 6071 D3D drivers can't be mixed with OpenGL drivers older than the 6032...

Yea, but lets not forget, Half life is 3 years old. Not many people pay much attention to it in benchmarks etc.

But yes, a tweak for the most played online game, that being counter-strike, based on the half life engine, would be nice.

i had a FPS problem when i upgraded to WinXP. my config.cfg file was changed so i had to change the value of ati_npatch "1" to ati_npatch "0" and it worked for both CS and DoD.

im pretty sure its probaly cpu based
with my radeon on my kt133 althon@1300 sdram it dropped when heaps of stuff happened
on my kt333 althon@1600 i can look at 10 ppl at the startpoint and it doesnt dip under 100fps
just a point i think ud need a xp1600+ddr to get 100fps constant

Well, I have a top o the line system, and I don't get 100 fps constant. It's the opengl drivers for the 8500 that are causing it not to reach full performance.

the card in the ddr system was my 8500
it was keeping 100fps for sure @1280x960 32bit 8xantistropic with the 6071's
the card can keep 100fps easily

What resolution? and does it dip at times?

I get 99fps except for deep firefights and crap, at all resolutions.

Also, for a weird reason, it dips 10 fps during the scores display.
