Need help in BF1942

For those that cant bother to click on a link I'll copy paste the main post:

"I really need help with a problem I've been having and can't fix. I installed BF1942 and BF1942: Road to Rome, but I can't play either of them. When I double-click the icon to start the game, it starts to load, the screen goes black, then it returns to my desktop as if nothing ever happened, and without errors. If someone could help, I'd really be grateful, I really would lioke to play the game."

Is there a Firewall installed that hasn't been set to give permissions?

huh? what do you mean? I have a hardware firewall, but BF1942 wont even load, let alone join a game. I used to be able to play fine, and I havn't changed anything.

I have some instances where a program won't install or run unless I've given it permissions in the firewall. In some cases I'll get a screen freeze. It took me awhile to realize what was going on.

It was just a thought.

So far, I've had no problems at all with BF 1942. It's a great game.

Easy, you're running a vertical frequency higher than 60hz in winxp/2k right? If so, do this:

1) Locate this file "..\\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\VideoDefault.con".

2) Open it in notepad or similar.

3) Locate this line, and change it so it reads: "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1" (Minus quotes)

4) Save and try to start the game again.

Hope this solves your problem!

Extremely strange if that didnt solve your problem then... I would recommend trying to set the vfreq to 60hz and try entering the game... if that works, well.

edit: forgot to ask, was the line about the renderer to allow all refresh rates already there but set to off or did you add the line yourself? If the latter, then the update you did that is required to install the road to rome expansion might've gone bad.

well, it was working fine with the position I had it in before. I'm pretty sure it was already in the file and I just changed it to 1.

EDIT: I dont know if its just me but my posts in this thread sound a bit harsh, that wasn't my intention though.

your obviously not stupid when it comes to computers but if its just that you can't join multiplayer game then is it as simple as you haven't downloaded the patch.. i dont think the game asks you to install you have to find it your self. i doubt it is as simple as that but thought i would just check.

I have a simmilar problem but mine lets me into the game, I can play single payer but as soon as I try to log on to somebodies game it cancel the entire program and im back on my desktop like nothing everhapped. please e-mail me at camaroz29r@gmail.com with any help you can give me. Thanks!

Not sure if this is your problem or not, but look in this folder (assuming that you have installed in the default directory)

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Archives\bf1942\levels

Are there any folders within that directory or only files? There really only needs to be the various *.rfa files in there.

If there are any folders delete them and see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes if you have installed a custom map it places a folder within that directory and for some reason BF42 cannot handle that.

I just typed in bf1942 help and this thread came up, I havent installed new maps. this is exactly what I did to clear any other variables out: formated C:, installed win Xp on Ntfs C:\, updated winxp to sp2 and any other update, intalled bf1942 ww2 anthology, tried to play online game got canceled. Im back on desktop, updated game to 1.61, tried going back online, game canceled again. Playing against the computer gets real boring after a while somebody please help.
