lag in all games

In every first person shooter game I have tried I get something like video lag. It's like the crosshair is not keeping up with the mouse movement. I have upgraded all the drivers on my mother board, and bios, and upgraded my video card drivers, and mouse drivers, but i still get the problem. I even got a new video card thinking it was the problem (9600 XT). A lot of people said it could be the power supply but I'm not to sure about that. I have a 300W Antec PSU. I have done everything I could think of to fix the problem including disabling APIC, and putting my GFX on it's own IRQ. I'm going to buy new memory, and a PSU to see if that will fix the problem but I want to see if anyone can help me some how first.

Amd XP 2500+ o/c'ed 3200+
Kingstin 256MB ddr
ATI 9600XT
Logitech MX500 mouse

A few things to consider:

Yes, the 300 W PSU is very iffy in your case.

BUT, an additional 256 MB of DDR Memory would make a world of difference in how the system performs.

You also might try adjusting the AGP Aperture settings in the BIOS. It usually defaults to 64 MB. Try lowering it to see if there's any change. There's no real 'science' as to what it should be, so, feel free to experiment with whatever settings your mobo BIOS allows. Just go with what works best.

But, at least a 350W PSU and additional 256 MB of RAM is what I'd suggest.

Alright I'm going to pick up another stick of memory, and another PSU, but could it be that the mother board is messed up, or not working right?

You may find out soon enough. BUT, are you getting any critical/fatal errors other than in games? If not, that puts the mobo at the bottom of the list.

er... that sounds like more trouble....

The sony machines are by what i've heard... natorious for overheating.. or just running rather hot..

What kind of mouse... PS/2 or USB? wireless (a question allready asked)

a basic system alone.... not very powerful... without much of any graphics today requires 300 watt PSU's...... OEM builders such as DELL.. or Sony in your case..... will put in usually the bare minimum....

A radeon 9600XT requires a few watts.... It does have an external PSU required cable right? (9500 pro/9600 pro xt/9700 pro/9800 pro XT ) ?

Not quite sure..

Your also running your Barton 2500+ at 3200+ i see.. you most likely have more cooling.... which requires more power...

I really sugest that you get a 400 watt.. 350 Minimum PSU... good quality.. such as enermax.. But if you still using a Sony Case... i'm not sure they designed them to work with the standard sized psus....

yea but it probubly pulling a good 75+ watts by itself

cards with powersupply connecters are useing to much power to be powerd just by the motherbard alone so they get some direct power from the psu.

Well like I said I'm going to pick up a new PSU this week, and I'm getting two sticks of 512MB HyperX kingstin memory hopefully that will fix my problem. Everything works perfect I get lots of frames in ut2k3 and other games but the crosshair is falling behind the actual movement of the mouse. A few people I have talked to have said it could be the mother board, but I can't see how that would be the problem. I got a new video card because I thought that would fix it so I guess if after I get the new PSU, and memory and if I see that the problem I will just have to get a new mother board.

The higher psu would prolly help since its drawing so much from the mobo could be lagging other things w/ only a 300... just a suggestion
