Well guys the demo is amazing but i have strange visual issues. Just to start if i set antialiasing and AF to application preference the game locks and VPU popup comes just before loading the level. Once i enable AA and AF i set the game options to very high and AA to medium. That's what i get outdoors:
![]() Notice the weird poligonal shadows over the rocks. And that's indoor: ![]() Notice the weird dots ala Deuxex IW.. I have a radeon 9700 pro with cat4.1 and no OC, any ideas, anyone with the same problem..

I ran into something similar but it was like I walked into point were everything rendered odd as if i was using a no clipping mode. I took to steps to my right and it was gone... Is this only in certain spots or all over?

It's al over the place but now i've disabled antialiasing in the game menu and in catalysts and artifacts are gone. I guess this is going to be another title without working antialiasing

![]() aniso does this and AA is broken (ati). best way to play it is, Mipmap and texture settings to max, and aniso and AA off, set your res to 1600x1200 if you monitor and PC can handle it (im thinking 17k 3dmark2001 rigs or more here) and you dont notice the jaggies due to the resolution. |

I havn't seen this problem but I'm using Omega's 3.10's. Maybe that's the reason?.. (I have everything on VERY HIGH and have tried it with and without AA with no difference.
I think the 4.10's are to blame(?) |

no the 4.10s arent to blame im on newer sets than this. its a problem with aniso, and as I said AA is broken. unless omega is using different AF settings. ATI will be looking into it anyway.

I just noticed I had TrueForm forced on in my display props. Using "HIGH" AA within the game.. Not sure it works though. .pretty jaggie. I also have the ANIO on HIGH as well. I got to say.. on my rig I don't see any problems at all and in fact I'm dieing to see the ingame FPS counter.. anyone know the command? It feels like I"m getting 60's with VERY HIGH settings.
![]() ps.. I havn't seen anyone post about the random conversations that you can pick up with the binoculars??.. some of them are pretty funny. |

lol actually I was crashing alot for some reason, I think ive it sorted out now.
I was being a little hard on the game though, I still dont think this is finished, i mean things like ![]() make me feel its not totally ready for release yet, looking forward to the final product though. that painkiller game is awesome though, I had a beta of it, very impressive ! |

Zardon,
I feel pretty much the same way. I pointed out those trees and objects not touching the ground in the other (merged) thread. I've done enough beta testing to know that these things were pointed out to the devs, but the publisher may be pushing to get this thing out the door. I hope the devs can hold them off to get it polished up before full release. |

I tried to up the settings and ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the demo just to get it to play right again. What happened to me the first time was a VPU Recovery. After that, if the game actually started I'd end up with what looked like a nice pretty sky but without any boat, weapon, etc. And NO way to use any controls to exit the game. Only a Reset of the system would work. Once I uninstalled the demo and then reinstalled it, I made only a couple of changes and it's playing again really nice. |

I have no idea whether this will help or not. But, I've had games in the past that would not reset unless I FIRST adjusted the settings in the main Control Panel. If you haven't already done so, you might give that a try.
Then again, this feature may be limited in the demo. |

Sorry, no time to read the whole thread right now. To fix AA install the 3.8 catalysts and force it thru the control panel, set AF to "application preference" and set it in game with the "Texture Filter" option.

That tells me that the problem, while it might be partially due to the game, is also an ATI driver problem, how could it not be if I can get AA to work on an older set? Quote:
I cannot even play the demo- infact I had a hard lock at the loading screen both time I tried to play the demo. Here are the error messgaes I got both times after the reboot. And when my system did a scandisk before booting (because of the power button shutdow) and had to delete lost file fragments- ![]() ![]() **EDIT** here is the logfile data: // // Watchdog Event Log File // LogType: Watchdog Created: 2004-01-23 20:03:40 TimeZone: 300 - Eastern Standard Time WindowsVersion: XP EventType: 0xEA - Thread Stuck in Device Driver // // The driver for the display device got stuck in an infinite loop. DriverOriginalFilename: ati2dvag.dll DriverProductName: ATI Radeon Family DriverProductVersion: 5.2.3790.2 I guess from reading this thread it is because I had the AA set to app preference in the ATI CP or something- but the first time I got the error I did not have it set to App. Pref. So how do you get the game to load without hardlocking your PC? What do you set ATI CP settings to and what do you set the ingame Advanced Video options to in order to avoid hardlocking the PC?

If the demo has started hard locking your system (as it did mine after trying to increase the settings) try uninstalling the game, delete the folder for it, reboot, and reinstall it. That the trick for me.
I have the ATi CP settings at their defaults. |

I always disable VPU Recovery and turn Fast Writes off. I've found it adds loads to stability, 'specially with temperemental games. (Far Cry has been pretty solid for me though, sorry.

Oh, I guess I'll have to reinstall- I'm not sure it's worth it though. When I have to assign separate buttons for controls like walk, sprint, crouch, prone, zoom in, zoom out, HOLD BREATH!?, binocs, etc, etc, etc.... when these could all be accomplished with 2 or 3 button being cycled like in ALL successful FPS's- I tend to think the game has control problems- most of these controls are redundant and just make it a pain to remember where all the redundant controls are mapped to.. Another case of needing every key on the keyboard to control a game when only 10 or less are actually needed. I'm thinking when this game finally comes out it won't work right on newer ATI drivers anyway (AA, AF problems), like many other games. Maybe I'll "try" it when it comes out, then buy it if it actually works and is worth it. Ah well- just one more game that AA doesn't work with.

The hold breath button is VERY handy. While zoomed with the sniper you can 'hold breath' and it will "focus" even further into the victim and allow you to pick out specific points to nail. (eyes, ears, etc)
Do yourself a favor and spend some time with the demo. Finish it a few times and you'll appricate the details. Shoot the rope.. Shoot the birds.. and make sure you shoot the light bar near the end of the demo. The realtime shadows combined with the physics make that hallway pretty impressive. I must have spent 5 mins shooting that light and watching the patterns on the walls. |

That's the problem. I hate games without antialiasing anyway- they look like crap no matter how good the game is IMHO, so I'll just wait till the game comes out and decide then.
