Big Grin A Happy Cry for Far Cry

I downloaded the demo at school (Thank you free bandwidth), and tried it at home today. Mmm~ Mmm~ Yummy graphics and sexy performance is just some of the small pros of this game. This game reminds me of "Freedom Fighters" (With the voices and the way the dudes dress). A great demo and I can't wait for the game. Ubi Soft has been going solid! First Splinter Cell, Raven Shield, PoP: Sands of Time..now this! Kudos to them.

What engine is this powered by? Crytek? Or is Crytek a company name? Sorry I didn't do my research

Crytek is the company and they're using their own engine. Definitely on par w/ other major ones don't ya agree?

It sure will be interesting to see other companys using this new engine on their games... very nice engine, on par with D3 and HL2...

On par for sure.

I hope it won't end up like Serious Sam's Engine. I thought that engine was pretty sweet, but nobody used it. (Maybe it was just me? ) The game's flexibility rivals that of Q3 (Which I like). One can only hope that major developers like Raven will use Crytek's engine in future games. Although, Raven has proven themselves time and time again with ID Software that they can make great games with their engines.

After making sure that my younger son's brand spanking new 9600 SE was installed and running properly tonight, the very first thing he really wanted to do was take a first look at FAR CRY. He was still playing it when I left at 11 p.m. this evening.....and LOVING it!

I think they need to fix antialiasing before we call them great. Sands of time has some major glitches with AA too-
I see a pattern and it isn't a ggod one.

Yes, Far Cry totally hangs machines using 9700 pros when enabling Full Anti-Aliasing. According to Catalyst Maker, ATi is working alongside w/ Crytek to sort this issue out before release. Its apparently not an issue for ATi to address, but in the game engine... sure hope they can sort it out asap!

Well that is great news, that meas allot- I hope they get it worked out too, and I'm sure they will if they are working on it. When AA is enabled, this game will be very impressive.

Well, i think that the Doom3 engine is by far more powerfull than Cry engine, but may be the same powerfull than HL2. Well, time will say .

The multiplayer beta of far cry is pretty balanced, and the gammit of weapons include an OICW with the 20mm HE rounds, and a g36? I think that has similar capabilities, not really sure on all the names, you can actually drive vehicles jeep and boat and there is a gameplay mode similar to Wolfenstein: ET with buildable structures and bases, and gun emplacements, the weapons I remeber from the beta were SAW, M4 carbine or M16 not sure witch it was, P90, MP5 SD, sniper rifle, grenades and flashbnags, but just the one handgun, that I can remeber

"Numerous German-language sites are now reporting that Crytek, developers of the forthcoming first-person shooter, Far Cry, have been raided by police and authorities after an ex-employee informed them of widespread software piracy at the studio.
Reports indicate that the software has been used to create the game and that the value of the software, if purchased legally, would be over 1 million Euros. The home of Faruk Yerli, one of the three brothers who set up Crytek, has also been searched for illegal software.

No comment has been issued from either Cyrtek or Ubisoft as of yet, and if illegal software has been discovered, the ramifications to the release of Far Cry are unknown. Ponder this however - what is the legality of game content if created with illegal tools?"

I think it will still be released... they are just in a little trouble over what they are using to produce it... the release of the game should be able to shed their financial woes about the fine

Don't worry ppl, it was just a former trainee that wanted to get 'even'.

Quote:
From the FarCry beta forums:
So finally an answer from Crytek:

http://www.gamigo.de/news_detail/pc/17288/

Short summary for all native english people here:

A former trainee, who just worked for a couple of months at Far Cry, told the police that software was installed on more PCs than Licenses were available.

The Crytek Manager and the police talked a little while, and after 3 hours everything got back to normal.
Neither was anything confiscated, nor were any people arrested.

So it's nothing more than hot air. Everything was legal, the police found nothing, and Crytek has said very explicitly, that they would never make the mistake not to pay for professional software.

The game looks bad ass but and this a big but the game takes forever to load, I have never played a game which has taken this long to load I could make dinner and eat it by the time this thing finnaly loads the level, I know my system is not the fastest but its not exactly weak either. C'mon 5-10min to load a level. Something like that can kill a game, this thing looks like it needs a min 1gb of ram.

I've had several games that have really high textures and loads of other things like enemy AI that take a while to load. This one is only taking me maybe 1 1/2 minutes to load. If you're definitely getting 5-10 minutes, I'm very surprised.

EDIT: I just did a time check from the point of clicking on the Launch Demo to the point of being in the boat and ready to play is taking my system between 1 min 45 sec and 1 min 55 sec. The faster time was before doing a system reboot.

Load times usually are directly related to hard drive speed-
What speed is your HD- is it an ATA 100? 7200rpm? Is it set up with the mobo to operate at ATA 100? If not, there's the problem.

Lots of programs, but this is the one I use for most things like that-

http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

Aida32 - it has a section that lists your HDs' and speeds under Storage / ATA among other places.

It has a cool web update feature too- If you don't already have it this program is a must.

I whole-heartedly agree... I absolutely love it!

Only thing that bugs me was those read/write memory tests.. My system didn't exactly end up where I wanted it to in the list. lol

But that isn't a problem, the app is outstanding. Thx again for the tip.
