Xbox 2 + PC = ?
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Two months ago, Microsoft spoke glowingly of bridging the gap between the PC and Xbox. Now the company is considering erasing that gap completely.
While Microsoft has publicly avoided discussing its next generation machine, it has been quietly conducting studies on the consumer appeal of a hybrid device that would play both PC and Xbox games. "We would be remiss if we didn't look at consumer scenarios that take advantage of our strengths," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing for Microsoft's home and entertainment division. "[But] this is one amongst many, many other consumer scenarios that we're looking at." cnn |

Agreed. Also, if they bridge the gap, what would the pricing be for them? The price has got to be competitive to a real pc (Even though the console=pc bridge system is a computer). Many of my friends who own consoles say they do not own computers because they don't have enough money, and they like the playablility of the consoles (Pop a disk in and your gaming). This new Xbox will ruin that. Me, I am a diehard computer fan. HOOAH to the comps!

Good Idea, but I have many questions..
Does the user install the games? Or do they run from CD/DVD? Will there be an X-Box Next Mode of some sort which will adjust graphic settings to work with the X-Box hardware?
Will PC game developers need to consider X-Box Next compatiblity? Like the controller...and the saving? If this is going to be a PC, will the mouse and keyboard come with it? Does this mean the underlying OS is essentially going to be Windows XP or some variant to maintain compatibility with PC games? This move could also isolate the purist of gamers. Like pure console gamers dislike configuring and installing hardware, they just want to pop in a game and go. While the PC gamer would probably like to tweak their game and play with config file and such.

A problem with that..
A lot of console games use the CPU clock as a timer to maintain the game..Having X-Box games on PC might not always work well.

yes i know...as i said..it would have to be an OS....b/c with an OS you could spoof a clock to pass on to the game other then the CPU clock
