Default Post POLL: Do your CDs get too hot?

I have discovered a troubling aspect of playing games on a CD writer device: It seems that with all of the ones I've tried so far, after a little gameplay that accesses the CD, the CD gets 'overly warm' to touch.
I'm not sure whether this has any adverse affect on the CD or the game playing itself, but, I can't imagine that it's a good development.
I don't recall this happening with 'regular' CD ROM devices.

Default Post Used to happen to me too,

I noticed that the CD's were getting very warm to touch after ejecting them from my rig.

I upgraded the case, to what I consider to be a better one, but more importantly the new case had a seperate area for the PSU, which took it well away from the other componenets in the case.

That, coupled with the increased air flow has reduced my system temp by about 10C.

All of which now results in the CD's being not hot when ejected from my rig.

I would agree with Zardon, better cooling is required.

Even from a DVD-ROM, they come out warm!

Current reported temps ... Case 38C, CPU 48C (Athlon 1200)
Current noise level with added front/rear fans - barely acceptable

Time to bite the bullet and swap the PSU for a dual fan? or add a fan-bay between the DVD and CD-RW (there's already a free bay between them - I always spread drives / cards if possible!)

38c for case temps is high, what are your room temperatures?, you should be (in an ideal world) aiming for 30c or less, keeping the inside of your case cool is important, especially for 7200+rpm hard drives.

This is something I've noticed on several different computers within our family. There are four here and a couple elsewhere. The problem with running CDs from the CDRW devices seems to be a general problem all around. If they're run from plain CD ROM drives, it's not a problem.

On my own rig, my case is poorly designed. I can't use the bottom two bays (of four) because they interfere with the connectors on my motherboard. So, I have to use the top two bays.

I have three case fans and run with the sides off. But, having to put both my CDRW and DVD ROM together at the top could very well compound the problem.

There's a computer show this coming weekend and one of the things I'll be looking for is a new case. They had some excellent ones last month with 350 - 400 W PS for under $40. Several were under $30.

The discs from my 16x DVD get quite hot when I'm transfering a 700mb solid movie file off the cd directly onto the hard drive, but I can't say out of normal use, that my discs get hot.
