How do you set up a custom resolution in doom 3?

Does anyone know how to set up a custom resolution (i.e. 1280*960) in doom3?
I'm getting an average around 35 fps (min 25 & max 60)@ 1280*1024 but trying to improve my fps a bit by lower the resolution. Do you guys think the fps is too low for my system or that's about right?

yeah i was going to spend some money on nvidia but thinking that half-life 2 may be better on ati.........this is not really a good time to buy one i think, so i'll pass it until the next card.

Good man.

As for custom resolutions you can try finding:

seta r_customHeight "##"
seta r_customWidth "##"

I'm not sure if it works because I've never tried it. Back up your doom 3 config before trying it.

Something is weird. At the moment those are set to:
seta r_customHeight "486"
seta r_customWidth "720"
in my doom 3 config file but i'm actually running the game at 1280*1024.

I don't think that will give me the custom resolution but i'll give it a try and let you know.
However, do you think custom resolution should work on every game??

Did you guys try making a custom resolution in powerstrip and seeing if Doom3 picked it up? Before the X800s I used to create custom resolutions for games with a resolution higher than 1280 if they struggled a little at 1600.

There a setting called 'r_mode' in your D3 config that determines your resolution. You have to set the custom height/width AND set 'r_mode' to a value of '-1'.
