It doesn't surprise me one bit. All I ever see for the PC is ...FPS this...FPS that.....OH! Don't forget the RTS's and RPG's....and of course the mighty "simulation" genre.
*FUN games only come every 'once in a blue moon' for the PC, the consoles get them all with few exceptions. PC game sales are stagnating because of the LACK OF VARIETY in game genre's available to the PC market. Mmm, yeah, piracy IS probably one reason why most games never come to PC. Whether piracy has any REAL impact or not is debatable, but it's those "suits" sitting in their office who believe that it does have an impact, so no FUN games for us...or something.... Most likely though, the reason is that it's just plain easier to program for any SPECIFIC console (works on one PS2, works on all PS2's), as opposed to making it run on fifty-kazillion PC configurations. (*FUN games......arcadey, total action fest, ain't gonna take you days to "play it once", don't have to be a pilot to fly the dang plane, WORKS WITH A GAME CONTROLLER (not ONLY KB & M), type of games. It's really hard to explain......Go to a videogame store and check out all the console stuff, I see LOTS of stuff I'd like to play, but it never came out for the PC) There are many games that never become available for PC. Lack of variety, THAT is what is killing the PC gaming market if you ask me. |

Most games on the PC are 'fun' in one way or another. Why else would the people who play it play it.
![]() As I come from a team background where games I play are played competively, my input would be that the new games that are coming out are simply not as good as the games currently available. For example Halo was set to dislodge Counter-Strike from the CPL but it was simply not good enough in terms of gameplay and popularity. Of course this view is probably not generaly enough but hey, me no care ![]() Again most multiplayer games on the console are fun as you're sat with the people you're playing with and so are constantly interactiving with the game and with each other. You make jokes about what happens in game etc which adds to the enjoyment value. My personal opinion of single player console games, are that they become boring after a length of time unless they have a really gripping storyline/plot or simply play really well, games like Final Fantasy VII , VIII, IX, X, X-2 etc . It's similar with PC games too. I've tried playing through many single player games on the PC, for example Warcraft 3, Doom 3, Call of Duty, Medal of Honour etc. Warcraft 3 and Call of Duty are probably the only ones that got me coming back to play them. CoD had one of the best storyline/gameplay I've played on the PC, and Warcraft 3 had a fantastic storyline/plot.This probably has nothing to do with the initial post but hey me no care

Believe it or not, game developers genuinely like developing for a console rather than a PC. And would good reason, the constant pressure from nVidia and ATI to develop games for their card, must be driving them bonkers. And if they aren't being pressured, they'd have to MORE work just to get the game working well for both sides. DX9 and OpenGL standards are there for a reason! Just abide to them everybody!

This, again, is old news. Console games outsell the majority of PC games, and just take a look at your local EB the next time you emerge from your cave. One third of a wall for the PC, the rest of the store for consoles...like it's been for the past...um...15 years?

here we download our rar files and easily install it with a sep app to read the ISO maybe our xbox/ps2s need to have a mod chip soldered on, get a damn dvd burner, right dvd burning program. its a huge hassle so thats why ppl dont bother pirating console games as much. i'm one example

Several factors contribute to the decline of PC game sales and console sales dominance:
1) Piracy - A factor, but not as much. 2) Software surpassing people's hardware - Not everybody can readily shell out +$300 for a new PC to play the latest games. 3) There are 3 consoles - That's a lot more games than what the PC gets, and what's worse is that PC games get ported over to consoles, but it doesn't always go the way around. 4) Cheaper consoles - People like to play games, and not pay a lot of money to play them. Consoles are cheaper and are readily available to just "Insert and Play".

well..the sales differences are obvious...because consoles are just more accesible to the average user. does that mean they're better? not by a long shot!

Yeah, and now with consoles going on-line the pc is losing one of its big advantages. And with the xbox system link is a much easier way to have a Lan party, you dont have to worry about ips and crap like that.
