My actual first Online gaming experience as well. I was hooked on that immediately. I actually got a high playing against other people. Played that thing night and day for about 3 months. The Japanese were really good at it, as they saw the arcade machine version about 1,000 times more than any Europe or American guys. Had more practice. Great memories of that game. Quote:
as there were hardly any ~ console cofig tweaks that took months and endless searching to find. Everyone had the same hardware...had to play the game pretty much out of the box...as it came. Close matches, and not a damn one of us knew anything about "56k sucks" and Ping times. We just had fun. It was actually the PC guys with the DC Expansion maps on Dreamcast/Sega servers that screwed everything up. I know I didn't get my butt kicked as often as on PC. Sheesh...

I couldn't play SA1 or SA2 very far.. But I do intend to finish it on the PC with my GC controller. As for for all the 2-D fighters for the DC: uber. I got the DC just for CvsSNK and other 2D fighters.

I don't regret it. Lots of games were ported over from the DC to the big 3 consoles today.

uk release time it had no compatition.......the dreamcast fell flat on it's face when the ps2 were released. as im a uk resident we always get our stuff quite a while after us/jap release dates. so basically the dreamcast were the best super console we had for a time.so concider the time scale of the release dates before commenting. I'm sure this was the thought in a lot of people's minds: "PS2 is coming. Why should I get a Dreamcast? Sega failed with the Saturn, SegaCD and the 32X.. The Dreamcast must be crap." Sega Dreamcast had a lot of gems which developers like Capcom and Namco developed for it. Two games come to mind, Resident Evil: Code Veronica (If you haven't played this and you're an RE or survival horror fan, PICK THIS UP) and Soul Calibur. Both high quality games, one which was ported to the PS2 after the DC's demise. Hardware wise, it didn't have the muscle like the consoles today, but that didn't stop great games from appearing on it which pushed the boundaries of gaming graphics (Shenmue). I personally adore the DC's controller. I like the way it feels and it's versatility (An additional 2 more buttons would make it perfection). So, if you you're going to dub the DC as a trash console, it's only fair to say that you did not like the games that were on it and not the console itself.

The console world can be a bit different from PC hardware.
The DC failed for two reasons: 1. Retailers, (game and toy stores) and consumers, (you)...were leery of Sega's reputation and commitment to supporting a platform in full because of the past experience with the previous Sega platform, the Saturn. The Saturn really was quite a disaster...and was overshadowed quickly by the PSX, mainly because the PSX had better graphics capabilities than the Saturn. Sony also threw tons of money at game developers to develop just for their platform. (Actually Neon...PSX/Sony were a bit like nVidia ...meant to be played...) In fact, there will be NO Formula 1 games for any other piece of hardware for the next 4 years..except you guessed it...PS2. Thanks Sony for buying, (EXCLUSIVELY) the FIA license and essentially ruining F1 sims for millions of people. 2. With exclusive titles, and about 300 million USD, spent on marketing the PSX, Sega couldn't compete. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Personally, I hate Sony. Every piece of hardware, Wega TV, Walkman...PSX....were for me anyway...sub-standard products as they neither performed as well as other companies products, or simply died...usually about 30 minutes after the warranty expired. Drop in the bucket, but I have a personal boycott of Sony. If I need a TV...Toshiba...Stereo...any other brand...etc. |

I like Sony, but I don't blame them for DC's demise. It was developer's choice. Capcom was a big supporter of the DC. Many titles released on that console.

I'm a gamer, and I go where the games are. I don't have a particular platform in which I solely game with. I'd even play a few games on the X-Box at a friend's house despite my disliking of the console for their lack of unique games. In fact, my brother won our GBA Platinum in a tournament for Capcom vs SNK 2. We played it on the DC, but the tournament was using an X-Box...and him and I made it to the finals. He won though I'll reiterate the statement again: "So, if you you're going to dub the DC as a trash console, it's only fair to say that you did not like the games that were on it and not the console itself." P.S - The DC is a solidly built piece of hardware in my opinion. It's still working for me
