doom 3 final boss

who was a little dissapointed @ this final boss in doom 3? i know i was....all the other bosses in doom 3 are alot harder than this final wimp...i rekon that should hav made it so the soul cube doesnt give u health when using it on this guy...and make like heapz more impz...cos like i think there was a bit 2 much room to run around and not enought impz to make it even slightly hard

my initial thoughts when i saw him were " oh dear god im dead " but after 2 seconds of fighting i realised hes the most useless end boss ever.

Doom 3 in general was a great game as far as the engine, the production values, and scripting that I've never seen before.

As for actually game play it did nothing to bring something fresh to the table; and as for the last end boss it was a disapointment to bring him down with a cheap trick.

In any event the game was worth playing once; but not worth all the hype surrounding it's release. I still commend iD for working so hard on the game and the engine and I look forward to the D3 engine based games to follow.

Doom 3 now is a super-duper OpenGL benchmark.

but i am hoping we get some damn fine mods from the engine

personally would love to see a starship troopers mod and i believe an alien v predator mod would rock on this engine

I thought it was a rather fitting end boss for a totally underwhelming game.

^ very good point. I was disappointed highly with the farcry end boss, cause that was a crappy end to an overwhelming game

Well apart from the fact this thread is about Doom3, yes I agree the end of farcry was pretty naff. at least the rest of the game was good, glad to see Farcry overwhelmed you though

I got killed a few times till I figured out what to do... it was pretty easy to kill am imp and get the soulcube back.. 3 hits and the dude was out... bleh... I was not impressed.

I will admit the final battle was graphically impressive, I just ran around staring at everything... then I realized how easy it all was and just finished the game. I give iD credit for creating a great 'nextgen' engine and good scripting (not to mention the GUI in the game), but the core game play is lacking. Run, get startled, shoot (usually shotgun), run, hide, get startled again, shoot, etc.

i rekon ID should have made the game more like painkiller with hordes of enemies running at u. doom 3 got a lil dissapointing because u basically only use the shotgun and there wasnt any need 4 the more powerful weapons, but i hav to agree the nextgen engine is awesome

It would have been fun if there was a horde of enemies onscreen but the engine would have killed most systems if that were to happen.

Run, shoot (shotgun), scare, run, shoot (shotgun), scare, run.

sorry Z, but I bought the game on your recommendation.

That being said I actually love the game. I dont play it alot. I wait till its late, i'm tired, no one is around to complain about the noise, and i turn off the lights and play for awhile. its great fun. It has a different feel than the other games so I'm quite happy with it.

I can understand why you dont like it though. The gameplay doesnt do the engine justice.

I agree, Geminiwave. I like Doom 3 A LOT and I don't understand why it has become politically correct to diss Doom 3. Hell, I've defended D3 in many fori, it's all "OMG Far Cry is good- BLEH Doom 3 sucks". I think both games are excellent, and have had a ball playing both. The last 1/4 of FC was, well, crap. And the cut-scenes were abysmal, really bad animation and lighting. Extremely bad voice acting too.

And the AI in FC sucks too, more so than Doom 3. Unless you play FC on veteran, it's no challenge. In Doom 3, I've experienced some pretty good AI, with nazidemons seeing me from levels below and above and actually finding me. The soldiers also duck in and out from barrels and move from wall to wall on purpose. The end boss was great IMO. I felt SO good busting his ass, damn he was ugly.

I think it's too early to judge D3 MP too, I think Doom 3 sits in a bigger picture id has yet to reveal. Quake 4 will rock, and probably compliment Doom like CS does HalfLife2 now. Doom 3 is a brilliant little shocker that will sit very good next to Quake 4 multiplayer heaven.
