MOD Chips for Xbox Are Lega?

Mod chips for xbox are legal right? you can use it to backup your games but not to download games you dont have. am i right?

BUT - some higns fuxx0r them up..such as the bonus disc frm the starwars trilogy which flashes yer BIOS, thus ruinign a mod chip

No! They are not legal. If it was legal to have backups of your Psx, xbox etc, i think the companys would have made their consoles run it in the first place, dont you think? But on the other hand your free to do what you want, but be aware of the consequences.

question...

when installing/soldering a mod chip into an Xbox, does one then still have the ability to play on Xbox Live?

it's one of those things i caught up on some site but can't recall about

can someone confirm this please??

I don't even have an XBOX, or PS2, or NGC. I do have a PSX, but it's in ruinins.

The latest modchips have the ability to "turn off" so you can play Live. You just have to search and find the right one.

Friend of mine is trying to sell me an xbox with all games for ps2 xbox and n64 installed on it for 200 dollars. Would be pretty sweet if they didnt have different controllers.......

Just out of curiosity does xbox connect work with chips?

really i dont care if your using it for pirated games, as long as you give some support but not absolutely have all your games pirated. hmm maybe i agree with piracy in moderation lol

i think its completely fine to mod it as a entertainment center, but not someting where u rent and copy games all the time.

Man...I remember when you could look in a superconductor manufacturers booklet (usuall motorola) and use one of their industry designed chips as your PSX mod chip....

Xecuter has to be the best chip at the mo - I just fitted a 2.6 chip to my "brand new" Xbox last week and it is sweeeeet. I got myself an X3 chip (the latest version) on Saturday but haven't fitted it yet.

I would reccomend the 2.6 as they aren't too expensive and they are really easy to fit (you dont even have to do any soldering if you buy the pin adapter)

If you want any advice on fitting an xbox chip, drop me a pm and I'll be glad to help.

BTW - the chips themselves are not illegal as they are not copies of anything and they do not break any copy protection. HOWEVER - its the BIOS that is flashed onto the chip which is illegal as that BIOS file holds original Microsoft code.

Connecting to XBOX live with your chip turned on does not get your live! account banned but instead bans the xbox itself from connecting.
There are ways around this although I'm not going into this here.

And the chips are not just for playing backups. I now have a 120GB disk in mine instead of the 8GB disk they are shipped with. It has custom dashboards galore, connects to internet radio stations, holds mp3s, DVDs, mpeg video clips etc etc all connected to my TV and surround sound system. A better alternative to having a media center pc connected to the tv imo.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but you can softmod an xbox with no mod chip. It uses a hack from a game save from a certain game. xbox-scene.com has a tutorial on it now I think. Besides the game save all you need is a thumb drive. It works perfect and you can run your games off the hard drive with hardly any load times.

I've been doing some research as well. xbox-scene has the skinny on all of it. Worth checking out. Short version: Soft-modding (inexpensive, uses software only) will stop you in *most* cases from playing on Live. Using a chip that allows you to switch off your mods, which are well documented on that site, allows you to play Live. There are alternatives to Live though... Anyhow, to get the best info I'd recommend checking out the scene.

I don't use Live, and am looking forward to getting my own X-box to mod, bigger HDD, dashboards, case mods, etc. We've got our son's soft-modded, and it's pretty cool, especially the media playing capabilities. I enjoy the Xbox. It's nice for me and my son to be able to hang out together on the couch and play games together.

they way microsoft has kept people playing on live is by detecting hard drives, but not by size as people have said, when you use your xbox on live for the first time it in a way registers your hard drive, if you have already put a larger hard drive in, then they will never know it. You just have to do it before you ever go to xbox live. They can't find out what exact hard drive you have so if you do it before you use your xbox on live you should be fine. besides that your running all your games off the hard drive and it didn't cost you anything to do it, unless of course you didn't have a thumb drive or one of the games needed to apply to font hack.
