just bought gta-sa

after spending 100 bucks on gta i got home and expected one of the best ps2 games ever made---- well the graphics are terrible,,, the people and cars have square edges, and its just not what i expected,, the gameplay is alright, storyline is excellent, but overall they could have done a lot better on it.

but for some reason its very entertaining doing drivebys with rage's killing in the name of playing on the radio and big smoke eating his fries....

so far i give it 8/10

thats good and bad to hear at the same time man. too bad i only play gta on the PC, not that i cant play it on the PS2, just that i like the controls more on PC.

(i like almost finished GTA 3 on my couzs PS2 last christmas, got to the other side. finished it on PC quite nicely though

Yeah, on the PC, it'll look a whole lot better. One of the reasons i'd rather stick to the PC

not really, the PS2 graphics are extremely limited (it was never that great graphically anyway) and its showing its age more now than ever. Ill be waiting on the PC version, hard to go back down to 640x480 with no AA.

Me, ill watch the kid brother playing it, then get the proper version next year

i also dont like sony's/rockstars ethics on this, the "dont allow anyone else to get it for xx months". Games like this SELL PS2s! thats the whole point.

when it was released it was acceptable but as you say in 2004 its horribly dated, im not just saying the PS2 here mind you, all consoles through a TV look hideous to me, even the more powerful Xbox (which I own).

Sony have massive marketing clout, thats how they succeed, its certainly not a wonderful machine.

Well can you imagine an old Pentium 233MHz playing GTA:SA as it is on PS2? Exactly, you have to remember it's a 4-year old processor and graphics setup, I doubt anyones 4-yr old PC can keep up as well as it does.

. During that time, there's lots to do. i can , cut my overgrown toe nails, do the dishes, and ah, cram stuff for the next exam.

Yeah, they did do a good job. but, the fact still remains, its just too slow to keep up with the XBOX. oh well, PS3s coming out pretty soon, so i'll gladly await its realease.

I havn't played it yet but I have heard people say that in some ways the graphics are worse than GTA:VC. Not sure what they mean buy that since from what little I have seen it look alittle bit nicer.

Anyway I plan to pick it up on PS2 and then nabbed up the PC version 6-12months later

If it still looks like crap does it matter what its running on? £40 for a game on 4 year old hardware hardly entices me to buy it.

With the same PC analogy you could expect game makers to release new titles with no support for new graphics hardware just supporting older graphics hardware like GF2 or less - would you pay £40 for that?

Well when it does come to xbox we can only hope its graphically superior, and they add the usually high def options for tv. Its kinda like how Splintercell on Xbox blows the ps2 version out of the water graphically

this is why in my apartment we have 2 xboxes, a gamecube, a sega saturn, a n64, a dreamcast, 2 gaming quality PCs(one on a 19" Samsung LCD SyncMaster, and one on a 21" IBM Trinitron), a heavy duty laptop(mobile radeon 9200 on a 17" widescreen), a 17" TV, and a 27" Flat Screen TV.

notice we don't own a single playstation, be it 1, 2, or X....that's because it has ALWAYS been behind, and I have ALWAYS waited for the PC or GC/Xbox version to coem out if at all possible(I don't like any of the strictly 'PS2 only' titles like crash bandicoot and what not anyways)

Hey, hey. I can make a defense for ONE game on the PS2 that is "graphically superior" - Ratchet and Clank. It's probably the only game on PS2 worth buying(other than FFX, FFXI, FFXII, but they can all be played on a PC). The GameCube's got some slick titles(Donkey Konga, Custom Robo, any SEGA game), and XBOX has the likes of Steel Battalion 2 and HALO 2. The Playstation will have some cool games to look forward to this season, but they're all being played on OUTDATED hardware. I picked up a "new" PS2 since my old one had trouble reading the discs, and I use a fiberoptic connection from my Stereo monitor to hook it up to a 32" Flat Screen LCD...even MGS2 looks awesome with a FiberOptic connection. Also, MONSTER Cable makes some good VGA/RCA hookups...check those out as well. KILLZONE will look awesome on my T.V., even if it looks crappy on the PS2.

Back on topic, GTA: SA has to be one of coolest games I've played around with for a while...drive-bys are cool as hell, as well as living the gangsta stylee. I give it four out of five stars.

outdated hardware or not, some of the up comeing games still look freakin amazing. (killzone, nfsu2, gran turismo 4) weve only gotta wait another 12-18 months and we should start seeing the first ps3's rolling off the line. if those things can do half of what they claim, itll be amazing.

Well I find that GTA looks fine.. Nothing great but acceactble to the eyes. The reason it's so weak (PS2) is that it doesn't need to cope with windows and all! Much easier on the for gaming... I don't got any probs going from PC to PS2.. GT4...

I dont see a reason to buy the new GTA... other than the fact that I dont own a PS2 anymore... >.> but anyway.. I used to love III but it bored the heck out of me... same with Vice City... which I played on PC.... its.. just too much of the same thing over and over... cant wait to see what they do with the actual next version of GTA though

dude rachet and clanks, gt3/gt4, and soo many others are just way better than Xbox and GC... GC and Xbox got good games but many perfect games are only out on PS2

That picture is also a pre-render. They did the same thing for Devil May Cry before it came out...and that Portal Runner game with the chick from those dumb 3D0 Army Men games. They just modify the picture like they do for Playboy...it's all "prettied-up" to show some good graphics until the game's released. But when you see it in action...

GT3: A-Spec wasn't too bad. There's just too many jagged edges.

my only complaint is that the sounds of the guns sound TERRIBLE and some of the sounds for the cars and stuff are sounds that were in vice city ;-/

Ditto. A lot of the cities(as well as in VC) are rather bland and generic. Driving that Bronco-like vehicle in a drive-by is kind of a bitch, too. All I know is that there will be 30 more clones of the GTA 3 engine along with clones of all the cool sh!t you can do in this game. They'll probably base another Simpsons game off of it.
