HL2: What do I do... (need help)

I'm near the begining of the game with the water rider thingy. I'm now where I have to open the second gate with this helicopter constantly trying to kill me. I seem to go through the whole way back to my water vehicle without finding out how to open the gate. Can anyone help?

Im not for sure exactly but there is lever at the top of a ladder I think. Im near the end of the game i think or I hope anyway.

if your where i think you are, then this screen should show you where it is. first thing to do though is destory the helicopter. after that, theres a switch on the post right by the first gate, its right by where im standing in the screen. (actually i think that is the switch in hte lower right corner) after that work your way up teh hill towards teh back and follow the dam. the section ive got circled is the location of the swtich. after that just take the hoverboat and jump it where my arrow is.

Nah, this is where I'm at, well sorta. I went back to a "autosave" this is what the area looks like just as you enter it.

theres door on your right, you see that guard over there? just go to that direction and swim.. you suppose to see a door or enterance

I do. I go through it, go through some passages and kill a bunch of guards and then after it all I end up where that guard actually is and still without finding where I'm supposed to open the gate.

Okay, after you kill the shit load of guys and get to the part where the first guard was standing, there's a ladder, climb up it and there will be two guys, kill them and hit the switch on the control station on your immidiate right. Shoot down the chopper with the torret guns and get back to your hover craft and go through the opened gates.

Why thank you. I feel like the third sheep in this picture sometimes. You would NOT BELIEVE what I was doing lol I was climbing up the dirt piles to jump onto crates and trying to get over the fence and junk lol

I had problems with the level with the explosive barrels. I was trying to stack them up and reach the vent. Then I tried dumping them in the water to try and reach the big pipe. I spent at least an hour doing that, then I realized I just need to turn this big red release valve.

Barrels might have filled with water - so there might have been little water displacement. The explosive ones floated so...
