Nintendo DS

Has anyobody gotten the DS yet? I heard that it came out today and I was wondering if anyone could tell how it is. I heard that it is a very good system but I just wanted to know how all of you think that it is.

My roommate and I picked up a DS yesterday. We both got feel the magic for it, which is a great little game. The MP demo looks really promising and the multiplayer is good stuff. The unit itself feels a little bulky and cheaper than the gba sp did.

It's kind of gimmick-laden...but as soon as I can afford the sumbitch I'll get one.

you know whats going to be the best thing about it? emulation. the GBA sp could do SNES emulation at 99% speed ( i think) but with no sound. Now, with the DS, we should have full SNES emu with stereo sound, plus a full size SNES controller, not to mention a screen to touch to use emulator options! the possibilities are endless!

It would be cool as hell to play some old-school "Trackball" style video games using a Touchpad emulator. Just by mimicking the action of a trackball's motion into the touchpad's sensor, Marble Madness could be fun again.

Anyone else just play the sh!t outta that game?

I tried one at the local EB and I must say that it’s a nice little unit. However the lack on any analog control makes playing 3D games a real pain in the butt. It’s too cumbersome to have to use the stylus while holding the thing in the air; it seems they designed it with a table nearby. I'll wait for the next GBA SP or PSP before I get another handheld.

I got my DS Sunday, and I think it's awesome! You don't have to use the stylus for fps games such as Metroid, you can use the strap that comes with the DS, ya stick it on your thumb and use the touch screen for free look. Pretty slick in my opinion

Yeah, I noticed that also...very slick indeed. I ended up trading my SP for one of these and having used it a few times I will say its a great handheld. The screens are superb-although higher rez screens would have been better- and are way better than the SP. I mean black is now actually black lol. Nice unit if you're in the market

There isnt one yet (AFAIK, i havent looked), but they came out fairly quickly for the GBA. All you need once they release it is a flash linker. This is like a cartrige that you can hook up via a cable to your USB ports, and put whatever you wish on there. Then, you only need to put the emulator and ROMs on

Anyone else think Nintendo screwed up bringing this to the market? I mean there are no more than five DS games out and maybe two are worth getting. Thank goodness it can play GBA games, it's the only thing saving it right now. The big N needs to get some games out for this thing asap! All dates at EB are for late 2005 on all good games for it.

maybe but then again you can wait for the psp which looks to be decent competition for DS the only things that can ruin a handheld are price, library, and battery life.
