CS:S / HL2 Refresh rate?
Anyone know how to change the refresh rate for the game to match the desktop refresh rate? Its so annoying having the monitor keep flicking on and off when loading up the game.
Thx. |

When your'e in the options menu (video options) there's a place that says Vertical Sync... just put it on disabled
so its options --> video --> advanced |

Thx for the reply.
Yeah Vsync was 'Disabled' in the game and set to 'Always OFF' in my ATI control panel 3D tab. It appears the game is running at a 60hertz refresh rate because when I set my display in the control panel 'Displays' tab to 60 I don't get the flicker when loading. I have tried setting it to 85hertz in the 'Displays' tab with 'refresh rate overide-same as desktop' enabled, but it still flickers. There must be a command in the game to change from 60hertz to 85hertz. I have been looking all over google...... |

I also have the same problem if you set the refresh rate override to "same as desktop". My solution is to change it to "85 Hz", depending on what your desired refresh rate.

Or you can turn off the ATI refresh override and use a utiltiy called RefreshForce instead. It remains the most efficient solution. http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/

There is a way to force the game to run at any refresh rate. I read the entire guide last night but I'm not at home to try the stuff out. http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_7.html -refresh [Hz]: Specifies the refresh rate the game will use upon loading. This is normally not required as your system should already use the optimal refresh rate at your chosen resolution. However if this is not the case you can force it to a specific refresh rate (e.g. -rate 85). Make absolutely certain that the rate you are trying to apply does not exceed your monitor's capabilities otherwise you may damage your monitor - especially if you change resolutions and forget to change this option.
